The video masterfully illustrates how basic geometry becomes a high-stakes survival tool when theoretical precision meets the unforgiving reality of physical labor. It serves as a sobering reminder that in construction, as in life, intellectual rigor is the only safeguard against structural collapse.

We’ll Have To Shut It All Down If This Is WrongAdded:
What is going on everybody? Welcome to day three of the offgrid cabin build at the creek property. Boy, is a nice day to be working. So, if you didn't catch the last two videos, a little recap. We dug for the pillars and then day two we poured all the concrete. Now, it's actually been like 4 days we've been letting it cure, set up, and now we've got it all squared up. We've got the holes marked and we're going to start drilling. Let's get into it. Day three offgrid cabin build at the creek. Hey, wait. If you're not subscribed, please subscribe. We'd love to have you guys here. Don't forget.
Me and Randy got this all squared up while Vincent was doing a very important job. You're getting the grill ready for lunch, Vincent. That is essential.
That's the most important thing today is what we're going to do for lunch. So, we're going to be cooking out here.
We'll show you some of that. Um, but right now me and Randy and Vincent are marking all the holes and we're gonna come back and start drilling holes on all the pillars so we can start putting our braces for our 6x6 post. And we're coming up 4T off the ground from the low point and working our way around um for the deck. So, this is like stage one is getting the the deck built. Then we can start framing up. So, that's where we're at right now. Everything's coming along pretty nice, looking good. We're about to get busy. So, we got the old trusty wall. I bought a lot of tools whenever we're building the house, so it's coming in handy when we're building the cabin.
So, we're going to do the first one here and uh see how long this 4 amp battery will last. And I'm just going right in the center.
Okay, let's grab one of the bolts in it and we'll see how deep I went.
Okay, that's about right.
We can hammer it down as much as we want. One thing about these, I'll give you guys a little tip. Get if you ever need some uh braces uh brackets like this, go to Amazon. They're going to be a lot cheaper. So, what you do is you melt down in there. This flares out and it will hold it. One thing about you want to put your nut on there, >> huh? Just start hitting it.
>> Yeah. Put your use >> and we'll get it below that. Then we can put the post on there.
That's where we're at.
>> Hey, would you walk down look at this?
Sure. I got that mark. I can't remember if we thicker.
>> That one.
Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
>> You hope it is. Anyway, Randy.
It's not bad on, is it?
>> Not bad at all.
Okay, let's get one in and see how we like it.
Huh?
>> What?
>> You told me position off off this just a little bit. Okay, that's what we'll do.
Get my foot in there. Big one.
>> Oh, you got the beast.
>> Yeah, I >> I'll try the beast first.
>> Thought you just had one.
Yeah, you put that nut on there.
>> Hit it with the nut.
>> Yeah, you start spreading the nut too much. You going down, hit the top, but it's not coming back off.
Oh, >> your shirt looks cool. Perfect. You're keeping it Dutch on the arm.
>> Oh, yeah.
Yeah, like Vincent said, uh, we got new shirts out and I was keeping it Dutch site for Gabby.
Yeah. I need to make sure like he said, I'm going to clean that out a little bit.
I guess we can go as deep as we want on the bit, right? Yeah.
>> So once we start hammering, it ain't coming back up. So >> you better make sure you're deep enough.
>> Well, if we don't go deep enough, we'll just have to drill holes in the bottom of the post, which isn't that big of a deal, but it's not really necessary.
Need a little shot back.
Okay.
You just don't want to get too deep. And I'm going to start it.
That's pretty good.
Long as we're This one's good. We can adjust it however we want.
All right, one down. 14 more to go.
>> Yeah, I like that stuff.
>> Ry's wanting to get a chuck wagon so he can bring it down here and cook for us.
What he's telling us about. So, what we're going to do now is I'm actually we're going to move the trailer over here. Ry's going to start cutting the 6x6 post and then me and my brother are going to start um doing the pillars like you just seen. I'll drill them. He can go back and hit them or whatever. So, let's get back up. Vincent, lower it down for me and then we'll move it over here.
I think got hooked to change it up. Push that ball.
Okay. So, we'll pull the the post out.
Ry's going to start cutting them. Our lowest point is going to be 4 foot.
These are 12 footers, so it's going to even out just right. Um, so we may have one that the bottom one has 4 foot and then one might be, you know, 3 foot 10 in, but it's all going to be level. It's going to look nice.
>> You have enough batteries to keep that thing going >> probably.
I think I got four of the 4 amps.
>> Yeah, I got them on the charger right now.
Also, we got a little rain this weekend and uh the concrete's dry. Had a good idea to put the wheelbar over it.
So, yeah, where we're at right now.
Everything else is looking good. So, we'll give you guys update in a minute.
Oh yeah.
>> So you want this bolt up here?
>> Yeah. Just a little bit more right there.
Bam.
That one battery did all of them. Heat up here.
You want me to hold it up or anything?
>> No. You let it fall? Yeah.
Bam. Like butter.
Okay, got all the holes done. We'll come back and we'll tighten all these up where we want them. Find our lines again cuz we got to get everything squared up.
So, everything's looking pretty good.
See, we kind of he's got them in there right now. But one, two, three, four more to go and then we'll come back and like I said, we'll tighten them up exactly where we want them. And then uh Randy stockpile the 4x4 post that we're coming up off the ground.
But these boys are starting to get hungry, they say. So they want me to start prepping our lunch.
Okay, we brought I brought some uh ground beef I buy from the butcher himself. And we're going to have some hamburgers and some chips in our little gas grill that Vincent put together for me earlier.
Okay, they're finishing up cutting the last few of those. I got this cooking.
Not cooking cooking, but heating up.
Getting all that stuff burned off before we put the burgers on. But it doesn't get nicer than this.
All right, we got this last cut to do and then we'll have all our post cut and then we'll end up we'll end up notching these. I'll show you. We'll notch them so the the beams that we're building will go on the post itself, just not bolted and screwed on there. It gives it that just more that much more support.
Um, whenever you're building these things off the ground like this. Um, at first my first thing I was thinking 5 6 ft, but then we came out here, looked at the land, looked at everything. This is this is efficient for what we're wanting to do. Um, I don't ever think it's going to flood, but you never know. If it does, it'll be 4T up. So, we'll be good there. So you guys can see this pile has got burnt down over the weekend. I pushed it all up, piled some dirt up.
I'm going to clean this up in a little bit after lunch.
And uh we'll get this going. So I want to get this cleaned up first, obviously, like I told you guys before. Then we're going to go over there. We're going to burn some of that. But it's all starting to come together. This could potentially, you know, we could have three cabins down here or whatever. You know, just whatever we want to do. We'll see how the first one goes. Obviously, we may just do one and be done. But I was talking to Randy. Oh, Randy actually found something kind of cool this morning. I think he's right. It looks like a piece of an old um maybe knife knife blade that they made that broke off.
Has definitely been worked over.
But I was telling them, I said, "We need to look. It rained this weekend, so we need to look through here. See if we see anything." And all this dirt in here. I guarantee there's some in here that we're missing, but they're just part of it.
All right, they're getting that last one cut and then we're going to eat some lunch.
I'm going turn that generator off.
Oh, they fattened up on me. I had them flattened out. I used to give my brother a hard time because he would make fat burgers.
These got fat on me.
It's out out of the I used to give you a hard time at making fat burgers. They weren't. They shrunk up and got thick on me.
>> That's what happened to me.
>> Yeah, I've seen that. Uhhuh. Yeah. Just out of the They're going to move that out of the out of the sun.
>> Me and Randy were sitting over here watching the creek taking a break the other day while Vincent was piddling around doing something. I don't know what he was doing.
>> Oh, that's right.
>> The burgers are looking good.
Put a little right there. Got my old keeping it Dutch salt grinder. I take this thing everywhere.
>> Yeah. Hit me with that. Yeah, that's good.
>> Randy need a little hit.
>> There you go. Too bad you got some.
>> So Randy got the heart burger.
>> I did.
>> Oh, Vincent got the heart burger. We love Vincent. So we made him a little heart burger.
>> That's funny. All right, we're going to dig in >> up. I don't need to choke them.
>> Huh?
>> Nothing.
>> I forget about the camera.
I don't want to break them off, do I?
>> All right.
I'm just going to go around and tighten all these up. Randy, what's uh what's the next after we get these tightened up? We're going to start puting them >> one at a time. We going to do the corners or what?
>> Excuse me.
>> We're going to do the corners or what are we doing? Yes, the corners and then and then we'll put up a ribbon that'll connect to our our our rectangle.
>> Are we putting all the posts up first or what's your plan?
>> No, we can just the outside, but since we got 16, we can do this one, the middle, and the end.
>> Okay.
>> And then and then do the other ones.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. So, we may pre-nch some or come in place.
>> So, um I guess Vincent, show your muscles off. Let's start moving these.
>> Yeah, let's start moving these post over.
>> You want to come behind you setting them?
>> Yeah, that'll be fine.
>> You got some screws and stuff. I'll hold them up. Um, the two inch, two and a half inch screws are over there. You might have to give them a drill, Randy.
I forgot my other drill.
>> Did you get a line level?
>> Yeah, I got a line level. The two and a half inch drills or screws. Right here's the line level, Randy.
>> Screws right here.
>> Oh, yeah. You got >> No, those are those these are the screws we need when you get here.
>> Little These are little ones.
>> Yeah, right here, Randy.
>> Okay.
>> And then the line level. You got your drill with you?
>> Yes.
>> Okay.
>> I forgot mine at the dog lodge. I'll I'll grab it tonight.
>> Okay. So, what they're going to do is come up behind me as I'm doing it.
They're going to start putting the post up.
>> You want to do the corners and set your line up? Then you can pick these middle ones up. Is that what you want to do?
>> Not necessarily. Uh >> cuz I think these might be just off just a little bit.
>> Maybe a little bit. We didn't have >> We might should get all of those up. Not all, not the middle, but all these.
>> Okay.
>> I put line on every one of them. We can take them off and adjust them if we need to. Whatever.
>> The ones on the end will have to be double. We have to be double knot. You see what I mean?
>> Yep. You want to get it both this way and this way same time. Hey, some of these once I soaked them down.
>> Yeah, >> they may be above.
>> What do you mean?
>> They may >> stick up.
>> This might stick up a little bit.
>> Okay. What would you do?
>> You can do what you can do is a hammer it and make a mark on the bottom and do a little drill.
>> What now?
>> If it's sticking.
>> Yeah, we get a paddle bit and something.
You got a paddle bit?
>> Yeah, we got something.
>> So, some of these are actually sticking up. So, that's okay. We'll uh mark them on bottom and uh if we need to, we'll drill the bottom hole out and stick that bolt down in there. You guys will see.
So, our first post going up.
Vincent's got the post level.
>> He's got it level.
>> Those things are pretty dang handy, ain't they, Randy?
>> Yes.
>> Handy, Randy.
>> Yeah. It's good for getting it kind of preset, you know.
>> Yeah.
>> We'll fine tune it. So, we're presetting all a bunch of them and then we'll get all squared up again. Make sure everything's good and uh kind of go from there.
Okay.
Do we got too many posts?
>> No, 15. What we need?
>> Are you going to make No, I mean all together total.
>> Yeah, I'll have enough.
>> Are you going to uh >> I should have enough to do the >> Yeah, remember on the side and the front.
>> So, we'll have to end up digging one, two, three.
>> You can make >> probably eight more holes. You can make those come up to the through the deck if you want. You know what I mean?
>> Yeah.
Heat. Heat.
Okay. So, now we're just trying to figure out where our bottom band is going to be. And tomorrow, we'll bring a little chainsaw out here.
>> And we're going to notch this. And our 2 by10s will sit on there.
>> We got three or four of them.
>> So, we're going to put a line up right now, aren't we? Line level.
>> Yeah.
>> And go all the way down or what?
>> Yeah. All the way down here and all the way down there. We can do the short side first there when it catch catches on.
>> And then we're going to come back and do these in the middle. That way our beams aren't in the way. We can adjust those any way we want.
>> But it's come together pretty good >> without sagging.
>> Pull it pretty tight.
>> Make sure it's level on the >> Yeah. Just slap down to see what's going on. Going down on down on down and down on down. You got it pretty tight, right?
Straight. Keep going down. Well, right there. Stop for a minute.
I stay down. Just attach. No, that's pretty good. That's actually pretty good. Now, hold what you got. Now, what you need to do next is look down that string and see how f.
>> So, this is going to be our highest.
Will this be our highest one, Randy? Our low. This is our lowest point.
>> It's our lowest point.
>> Lowest point. So, then we'll come back and we'll cut all these. You got that line level.
>> Still in a safe spot.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> You like that pretty good?
>> Yeah. I look down here straight, but it probably won't be on this 32 foot side.
Okay. You take all that down. Now, >> now we're going to do the 32T side.
>> Take that level off.
>> One issue we were having with this I wanted to show you guys is our mind was playing tricks on us. We were thinking the level the line level was off um whenever we're looking at things. And uh turns out we believe everything is good.
Um the the low end of um the ground is that corner post down there. So it's the it looks like it's the highest because elevation on the ground. Well, this makes this seem lower because the string's lower on the post. If that makes sense. It's higher up there, lower down here. But that's makes perfect sense when you think sit back and think, well, the elevation's higher up here, so you don't need as much post. And we I was kind of throwing us off there for a minute and thinking that we we did something wrong when in reality our minds weren't just comprehending that this is right. This is right.
Everything's looking good. Um so yeah, we were having a little debate on what happened here and why it was off just because if you visually look at it, there's more post over here than but it's supposed to be that way. So that's we you that's off camera stuff that we were discussing. Um, so I just want to throw that in there. Trust trust your equipment most of the time. Most of the time you can trust your eyes, but your eyes can deceive you for sure. And uh, if the line level says it's level, I think it's level. What do you guys think?
If the line level tells you it's level, is it level? But that's where we're at now. So, we got all the line leveled, got situated, and um, I think we're good to go to start cutting tomorrow. So, um, we'll show you guys when we start putting the joist up and making some beans. But right now, I got to put some diesel in the Bobcat. And, um, it's literally empty. And then, uh, then we're going to push up some piles, get them going, and I'm going sit here for a while and babysit them and go from there.
>> We'll see what five gallons does for it.
>> Probably just enough to start it.
Make sure there no copper heads in here.
A Oh, heat, heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Yeah.
Heat.
Heat up here.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Okay, we got a good fire going over there and just pushed it all up.
So, I'll sit down here and babysit it for a couple hours. Maybe do a little bit more dirt work right here. Get that cleaned up some. We'll see.
Tomorrow, we'll be able to start making the beams and hanging joist. And this will start to come together. Looking good.
It's going to start to get hot in here.
We're going to be dipping in the creek at lunchtime. I think the creek is flowing nicely.
Well, everything is on schedule um that I had but in my mind what I want to get done for the first three days and um it's coming along pretty nicely. And I'm going to do this. We're doing this in stages. Getting the deck uh built obviously and then we'll put the deck board on top and then we'll start framing. The framing should go pretty simple on this on this project only being a 16 by32. And uh I'm excited. I'm excited to get this going and uh it's going to look awesome down here. So I got for you for day three of the off-grid cabin build at the creek. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Love you guys.
Catch you on the next video. Thanks for watching.
