Coastal regions experience temperature moderation through marine layer effects, where cool ocean air creates morning clouds (May gray) that typically clear by afternoon, with coastal areas remaining cooler (upper 60s°F) compared to inland areas (low to mid-70s°F) due to the moderating influence of the ocean.

Is a cooldown coming?追加:
After some record-breaking heat across San Diego County including out toward our deserts, we are finally watching for temperatures to cool down. That reinvigorated marine layer joins us out along the coast and inland. We also call it May gray. Going to be on repeat for virtually every morning ahead, clearing out by each afternoon especially toward the valley floors, but along the coast takes a little longer for those clouds to break apart. We're watching for temperatures near normal. That's the thing to celebrate in the forecast because there are no major changes to that forecast in the next 7 days.
Holding on the upper 60s out by the coast for the days ahead, low to mid-70s as we look inland. Remember, you can download our free streaming channel CBS 8 Plus for all the latest and get an extended forecast right there.
