In criminal investigations, suspects may strategically fabricate evidence and false narratives to redirect suspicion away from themselves, as demonstrated when Hannah created a fake motive and led investigators toward her brother Marlon, ultimately succeeding in having him declared not guilty while remaining free herself.

Marlon didn't kill Stacy. I did.
And I was wearing this when I did it.
During the interrogation, Hannah claimed that earlier Stacy had not only pranked her with a dryer, but had also forced her to wear a dress with insulting words at a dance. Hannah fabricated a perfect motive for murder, and the jury believed her testimony. After the trial ended, Hannah quietly told Sarah, >> I didn't kill Stacy. Marlon did. It turned out the girl had deceived everyone. She had been leading the CSI team in the wrong direction all along, while the real killer remained free. It all started when her brother Marlon confessed. He insisted that he was the one who killed Stacy. During the investigation, the police discovered that both of them had motives for the crime. As a result, the CSI team decided to charge them both with conspiracy to commit murder. However, further investigation revealed that on the night of Stacy's death, Hannah's parents had ordered pizza. The delivery man said a child answered the door, but since it had happened a month earlier, he couldn't remember whether it was the boy or the girl. This proved that Hannah and Marlon could not have committed the crime together, but a new question arose. Who was the real killer? Nick believed that the brother was the murderer, and that Hannah was covering for him. Sarah, on the other hand, believed the crime required high intelligence to carry out, and that the brother was merely a brute accomplice.
In court, Marlon's lawyer argued, >> Marlon couldn't find sodium on a periodic table of the [music] elements and a shower head. He still would have had to have handled a volatile chemical.
That the specialized chemicals used at the explosion scene could only have been handled by a genius, and that Marlon simply wasn't smart enough. The reasonable doubts in the case ultimately invalidated the charges against him, and the jury declared Marlon not guilty on the spot. This verdict devastated Stacy's mother, while Hannah and her brother happily embraced in celebration in the courtroom. Afterwards, Sarah told Hannah that she would be charged with murder next. Hannah showed no fear.
Instead, she smugly replied that the worst outcome would be a 5-year sentence, and that after her release, she could write a memoir about the case and make a fortune. Hannah, you are smart.
>> So I've been told. But you are not smart enough to get away with murder. [music] I think I am. Calmly, Hannah then said to Sarah, "Marlon is the one who really killed Stacy."
