Today, we're taking 20 tons of raw steel into a swamp with literally zero bearing capacity. If I slip up by a single millimeter on these joysticks, [music] the river swallows the machine and me with it. We got an emergency call to surgically remove this biological plug that's choking the canal. To keep from sinking, I'm applying soil mechanics on the fly. Watch how I use the very roots I'm ripping out to build an improvised structural footing right under the tracks. I'm cheating physics by redistributing the static load. I boom out to maximum reach and push the pump for max hydraulic torque to tear through this compacted mass. This is where your palms sweat. Hoisting tons of super saturated biomass pushes the center of gravity to the absolute limit.

My only lifeline, these flotation pontoons, dissipating the pressure as I track sideways through the muck like it's solid asphalt. Bottom leveled, hydrostatic pressure stabilized, and laminar flow is restored. Ships over and the rig is still dry. Serious question for the dirt world. Do you take an amphibious rig straight into the mud for a dredge like this, or do you play it safe with a long reach from the bank?
