Kevin’s experience proves that even the best technology often fails to match the complex efficiency of natural biological instincts. It is a humbling lesson in respecting evolutionary wisdom over mechanical intervention.

Sadly They Didn't Make It追加:
What is going on everybody? I hope you guys are all having a wonderful day. I am. I'm enjoying the weather. Especially going to try to enjoy it today because it is fixing to storm the next couple days. We've been getting a lot of rain and uh it's a good thing because the garden absolutely enjoys rain. Let me turn this camera around. Everybody's wanting a garden update. They said, "Kevin, your garden's looking good this year. What's the secret?" Well, I've I've shared it in several videos. I mean, look at this. The squash and zucchini are just going absolutely crazy. The peppers are coming in. The cucumbers, we've already been picking the cucumbers and such.
Everything is going good. Right down here, we've got some u we're trying to get some starts from some uh wild rose bushes that were growing along the side of the highway down the road. I went and uh Rachel seen those and it was actually on Mother's Day. She's like, "Man, I'd like to have some of those to put in our yard." So, I went down there and got some cuts on them, and we're trying to uh get the roots to come in. So, they're not looking too good right now, but you can kind of see this down here is starting to turn green, staying really green. I think it's going to come through. So, uh all the foliage and stuff's dead, but it looks like the stem's still staying green, so that's a good thing. But yeah, we've got all kinds of stuff in the garden going really good. Uh getting close to picking some carrots, picked some cherry tomatoes earlier today. Our deal is uh coming in good right here in the pot. That's going to be for making pickles and all kinds of stuff. And then our tomato plants are absolutely loaded. They're so full. It's hard to see the tomatoes, but there's a lot of tomatoes in there. And then cucumbers on both sides are The trick to the cucumbers is trying to get them to climb up the trellis, which is not very easy to do. I think I'm going to have to get some string and start trying to train them a little better. But uh yeah, so anyways, garden's doing good. Waiting on these jalapenos to come in. Some more of the other peppers are coming in. And uh we got all kinds of stuff we want to cook and canned and freeze dry. There you can see we got a lot more tomatoes over here. And then we've been picking snow peas or snap peas, whatever you want to call them. These are absolutely wonderful. You just pick them right off the the vine like that and uh just eat them. I mean, they're just it's one of it's a delicious snack straight from the garden.
Super crunchy.
Super tasty. All right, so what is going on?
Excuse me.
Oh yeah, that's good. That's a good delicious snack straight out of the garden. Think it had a few bugs on it, but that's a little extra protein, right? Okay, so a little update. Um, if you guys have been following the videos, um, we had a turkey sitting on eggs and, uh, I told you guys I was probably going to move the banny eggs. Well, I did move the banny eggs out from under her and she's sitting on five eggs. So, hopefully she ended up hatching them out. Um, I don't know. Only time will tell. And, uh, I just thought of something. So, I just got a text from my dad. He said, uh, he lives in the next town over and he said it was started pouring down. And I just went to the feed store a while ago and loaded up on some scratch screens. So, I need to put them up real quick cuz uh you can't haul feet around in the back of your truck.
If it gets wet, it'll get moldy and kind of run. So, let's put them up real quick.
Got baby chicks all over the place.
Chickens can't. They're waiting for their scratch grains. Hey, you bannies ain't supposed to be in there. Look at that. The bannies are trying to sneak into the uh big chicken coop. They said, "We want to be big chickens, mama." Look, mama said, "Get out here. You guys ain't standard sized chickens. They said, "Oh, we know that Mr. Farmer Kevin's fixing to throw some scratch greens in there."
Okay, let me get some for you. I tried to tell them, Mom. I'll throw some out here, too, but they're not listening.
Hold on, mama.
All right. Oh, let's go ahead and get them some. Here. Here you go.
There you go, big chickens.
Get some little bannies here.
You guys better get off. Get away from the truck. There you go. All right.
Okay. So, mama's got her babies back.
They come right outside that uh fence that we're just waiting for some scratch grains. And right here, I've got some chicken feed. I got scratch grains. And I've got some layer pellets. I'm going to put these up in the chicken coop real quick. Fill my barrel back up with the scratch grains. And here comes Mr. Polar Bear. Mojo, what are you doing, buddy?
He's over there scratching. I don't know what he's doing. So, yeah. So, anyways, let me get these uh let me get the food, chicken feed, feed sacks, whatever you want to call it. Let me get it put up in the chicken coop. And then we'll go check on Miss Kate. See if she's still sitting on those eggs. Hopefully, she hatches out some turkeys because uh they're not doing so well in the incubator. I got a story I'll share with you in just a minute. Let me get this food put feed put up. I keep calling it food. It's almost dinner time. I got you know what I got on my mind. So yeah, let me get this put up and then we'll go check some stuff out. Okay, got everything put up in here. I just I looked over and one of these baby chicks was following its mom and it started flying. I have never seen that before.
This little banny was like flying. I thought it was a regular bird chasing one of our chickens, but no, it was the baby trying to keep up with the mama.
Anyways, all right. So, got the barrel full of scratch that'll last them a couple weeks. Got a couple extra bags.
And now we're going to get the eggs while we're already out here.
All right, girls are still laying good. We're getting some warmer weather. I expect they'll slow down here pretty soon.
They've been laying good all all spring, keeping us full of eggs. And I actually did a little project earlier See if I can get this door closed. So, you guys know we got the quill now and uh we finally gathered up enough eggs that we were able to uh boil some up.
And uh I've got some pickled quill eggs started. So, uh I can't wait for that. I love pickled eggs. And the little quail eggs are just bite-size, but they're very tasty.
Look at look at the quail. They are growing quite well. And you guys remember the feeder project I made. So, um you can see the feeder there. It's about a third full. So, uh they're definitely enjoying the feeder. The quail are growing quite nicely. Um they're not quite big enough to butcher just yet, but they're not far from it.
And then, uh I think the last video we put this one in here on this side. And these adults are enjoying the uh feeder as well. And then a little update over here. You guys remember the cream leg bar eggs that we hatched from our own trio of uh cream leg bars? We got one rooster and two hens. Well, now we got two roosters and a whole bunch of hens because uh we hatched all those eggs out. And these are purebred cream leg bars here. And they are almost big enough to go over in the big chicken coop with the big chickens. They're not little babies no more. They are they're getting pretty big. I can't remember how old they are. I want to say they're three months old. So, probably another week or two, we'll let them keep growing and then we'll introduce them over to the adults and then uh we got the the black copper mans and a little surprise in the shop. We had I think five or six more of the black copper mans hatch. So, all these in here, I'm pretty positive, I'm about 100% sure that they're all hens, which never happens here. Every time we hatch stuff, it seems like we have usually have more boys or roosters, but I think this time they're all hins, but uh we just had like six more hatch in the shop. Um someone was selling some eggs at an auction and I went ahead and bought them. And uh let me show you. I got them over here in uh the other Bruder. They must be getting a little hot because uh they're over here on the left side. Let me turn this Let me turn this down a little bit. Let's put it on 85. So, it's got a thermostat on it. It keeps it uh regulated the temperature.
But yeah, you can see how they're doing.
They're just a couple days old. They just hatched. And I have a sad story to share with you guys. So, uh let me get this. So, uh you know, we got the uh turkey eggs from our two turkeys, the Royal Palms, Mr. uh William and Kate.
Well, William's no longer here because he started being a bully. bullies, we don't let them stay here on the farm.
So, sold him at the auction, bought a different one. Anyways, we had a bunch of eggs in the incubator and about a quarter of them turned out to be good and fertile and was developing and anyways, one hatched yesterday and it just was not right. I don't know what the deal is. Um, did everything the same. We've had very good luck with this incubator hatching the quail and chickens and everything else, but for some reason it's not doing good with the turkeys. So, uh, that's why we're fixing to go over and check on Kate and make sure she's still sitting on that nest of eggs. Um, it was just last night whenever I got the benny eggs, um, out from under her. And I'll show you what I did with them. But, uh, anyways, I don't know what's going on with the turkey. It did not survive. It didn't It just wouldn't stand up. It didn't look right.
It hatched all by itself. I didn't assist it or anything, so I thought it was going to make it, but sadly, it didn't. So, I got a shirt full of eggs right here. Let me grab some food real quick and we'll we'll take a walk over there and go check on that turkey egg nest. Make sure she's still sitting on them. Hopefully she is. And hopefully she'll have better luck than the incubator. It's kind of a sad deal because she laid like 40ome eggs this season and uh sadly we don't have any babies. I don't know what's going on with that. All right, let's get some feed here and we'll head over there and see if big polar bear will uh follow us.
He came over when I turned the camera off when I was putting the feed up. of course, usually how it goes. And uh we should hopefully soon be having some more babies over here in the uh pico field. So uh I don't know where big man went. Oh, where did my camera go? Mojo, where'd you go, buddy?
He he saw me over here at the chicken coop while ago. So uh he came over there. He thought it was feeding time, but sadly I was just putting the uh feed up before it rains. You guys can see the sun's blaring down on me. It is warm.
Uh, mother nature finally said, "Okay, I'm done playing tricks. Let's turn it into summertime." And, uh, now we're starting to get a little warm. So, we've had a very weird year at the temperature. Mojo, come on, boy. Where's he at? Come on, Mo. He might have said fooy on me. He said, "You're taking too long, Dad."
Mojo, you want to eat? Where did he go?
Mojo, I see Lisky over there. Look over towards the pond.
He's laying over there in the shade. I don't blame him. It is warm. So, that mama right there, she's doing a good job raising her babies. Look how many she still has. She's a good mama. All right.
I don't know where Mojo's at. Mojo, it's feeding time. He already came out here while ago and I didn't have the food. I was just over at the chicken coop. And uh he may have wasted so much energy walking over there. He's going to say, "Ah, I'll just wait and eat later." I sure don't see him anywhere. Mojo, he might hear thunder in the distance.
Cuz like I said, my dad did say he lives over that direction and uh he just text me a little bit ago and said it was pouring down. So, uh we better get our feeding done, huh? Ghost, what do you think? What? You want me to feed you first? All right. Here you go. You're so spoiled.
Yeah. Are you the queen over here or what? Huh? you the queen over here. I think Shadow is Shadow's old. Shadow's old. She's not looking very good.
Oh, there's Kate right there. So, that's not a good That's not a good sign. She's not sitting on the eggs. So, we better go check. And uh she may have heard me yelling for Mojo and she may have decided to get up. I don't know. So, we'll go check them. I'll feel them and make sure they're warm. If they're not, then they're probably not going to make it.
Cuz I made her get up yesterday to get those banyan eggs out of the way. And I told you guys that was risky cuz sometimes if you disturb their nest just like a bird in the wild, sometimes they don't uh come back. I don't know. I don't know if that's a if that's a myth, a wise tail or what, but I remember being a kid, people used to say, "If you touch those eggs in that bird nest, the mama she she won't hatch them. She'll just leave them. I don't know if that's true or not. I don't know if birds can smell or not. Makes sense. I'm sure mama birds don't like uh their eggs being messed with. Here, Kate, you better eat while you can. I don't know if you're sitting on the nest or not, but I'm fixing to go find out.
Okay. Hey, babies. What y'all doing?
Huh? You all going to play for the camera? Do a trick or something. People like to see you do tricks.
They're like, "Mister, it's too hot. We just want our mamas to hurry up and eat so we can get a drink of milk."
All right, I don't blame you.
Okay, so uh let's go over here real quick. Oh, I did buy something. Found something on Amazon and I bought it. I need to leave it over here. It's a snake stick. It's an actual stick.
It's kind of like vice grips. Has a handle. Has a long 48 inch handle. It has like a trigger thing on one end and you squeeze the snake and it like holds them so you can relocate them and put them in something if you want to whatever because uh we don't we try not to harm the good snakes here. But anyways, that'll be for another video hopefully. Okay, so let me show you. You guys know where Miss I got to pay attention. Make sure there are no snakes in here now. Maybe that's why she's not in here.
And hopefully a snake don't come and eat the turkey eggs because there's not very many banny eggs left in here. A lot of the mamas did their hatching and uh they're gone. All right. So, uh we got one, two, three, four, five, six.
Wait, that's a banny egg in the middle.
Hold on.
Let's see what we got here.
Okay, so trying to tell. Yeah, they feel warm like she's been sitting on them. So, okay. So, I took this banny egg out and where I put them yesterday was right here.
Maybe a mama will set on them. Nice little clutch of eggs. I don't know.
But it is hot.
I just I hope and pray that Miss Kate is uh still sitting on those turkey eggs.
They feel warm.
Like somebody's been setting on them. I mean, the other day I was talking about Hold on. What was I talking about? Oh, I said, "How crazy would it be if a turkey hatched out some banny chicken eggs, which it happens all the time.
Multiecies uh species hatch out multi-cies of eggs all the time. It's nothing new, but it would be funny to see some little banny chickens following around a uh turkey.
But I just thought if the rolls are traded and the banny hen starts sitting on those turkey eggs, cuz there's only five in there, she could easily sit on that many turkey eggs. But how funny would it be to have a little banny chicken hen with five or six little baby turkeys following her around? they would be the size of her in like a week or two cuz the turkeys grow pretty quick. Now, that would actually be a lot funnier than a turkey raising the banny chickens. So, anyways, we'll have to wait and see. So, stay tuned. Make sure you guys are subscribed to the channel. Got a lot of new faces here, a lot of new people that I've never talked to leaving comments and stuff. And u yeah, do us a favor and subscribe to the channel. And I appreciate all of you that are subscribed. And uh be sure to leave us a comment as well. So, I'm letting this water fill up real quick. And then we'll go check on Lysi and Russell and Cora.
Um so here's a story on them. They the rabbits, the wild um cottontail rabbits are about to drive them nuts. I don't know how there's so many over there. Like they stay over in the brush on the other side of the fence. And then when they see that the coast is clear and the dogs aren't around, that's when the rabbits come into the pasture and eat the clover and stuff. The goats aren't eating it, so they might as well eat it. But the dogs smell them and then they get up and chase them and they never end up catching them. But the one animal here on the farm that does catch them is uh Mr. Smeaggle. Now any given day it's nothing for him to drag a chipmunk or a full-size cottontail rabbit over into the yard. And the funny thing is almost every time that he does that, he does all the work. He stalks them and he goes hunting and he thinks he's going to get a uh nice juicy rabbit to eat and he brings it back. You know how cats like leave their prizes that they go hunt and stalk and all that and they'll drag it back to the house and leave it at your front door because they're they want you to see and be proud of them. Well, every time Smeaggel goes and he he wastes a lot of energy doing this and a lot of time he'll go hunting, right? He'll get a squirrel, a chipmunk. Most time it's chipmunks, a lot of times it's rabbits, sometimes full grown rabbits, but he'll drag them all the way home somehow. And just about every time he never gets to uh enjoy it because Mr. Mojo takes them and eats them like really quick. All right, Kate, do me a favor. Go get back on your nest, girl. Can you go get back on your nest?
All right, we we I'm failing with the incubator. I don't know what's going on, but I have not been able to successfully hatch any of your eggs. They're fertile.
I don't know what's going on. So, if you could do me a favor, go sit on that nest and make sure those baby hatch. Okay.
All right. Sounds good. Get your get your belly full and then go do that. All right. So, Mr. Mojo is not coming. We'll have to feed him later, I guess. What's your name? You don't have a name.
All right. So, Mr. Mojo is not going to eat yet cuz he hears thunder in the distance, I believe. So, we already got the chicken egg. So, now let's go over to the uh big field. Go check on the donkeys. Go check on the big dogs.
Oh, yeah. Smeaggle. Look at this. I got to show you guys this real quick.
All right. So, uh, here is our little orchard. We got cherry trees. Um, we have a paw paw tree. We have plum trees. We have several apple trees. And the sad thing is is there is only like a handful of apples that are on any of these trees because of uh mother nature this year.
Yeah, I think this is about it right there. You guys can see those. There's a few more. Not very many. But anyways, the frost got everything. And we're not going to have much fruit this year at all. But here's the boys lounging around. Here's Mr. Smeaggel lounging around with Leki and uh Russell. What are you doing? You hanging out with the boys? You're waiting for them rabbits to come, aren't you? I know what you're doing. And you you boys are too, aren't you? Waiting on them bunny rabbits to come. You going to share them with these boys or what? Huh? Y'all ready to eat? Huh? All right, let me go get your food. Okay. Where's your mama?
Huh? Russ, where's your mama? You been swimming? So, Russell went swimming in the pond yesterday. It's been hot. Very, very hot. So, all right. I don't know.
They're I think they're all sitting here waiting on those rabbits. Like I said, um yesterday I was over here and I seen three adult rabbits just right there by the gate and they know how to use the fence to keep the dogs from getting them. They're pretty they're pretty smart and they're pretty fast. But, uh Cory's over here waiting to be fed. So, all right. But anyways, yeah, the cottontail, they're pretty thick. I don't know how because there's a lot of hawks around here, a lot of predators that like to eat them. Coyotes, Smeaggle, the cat, but uh they seem to be thriving. So, let's grab some food and then uh we'll go check on everybody else real quick. Okay, right about now is when the cargo short pockets come in really handy cuz I like to feed our dogs extra eggs when we have them. And uh there's Brownie in her annoying call.
Brownie.
Yeah. I can only carry so many eggs in my bucket and feed and carry the camera.
All that. Hey, Mr. Henry.
Brownie. You going to do it one more time? Brownie.
Brownie.
Nope. She ain't going to do it now.
What are you do? What are you all doing?
You got any new babies over here? Huh?
Not yet.
You never know. When you open this door, sometimes there could be new babies and I don't see any. There's Mr. Olaf.
Hey Olaf, you're looking pretty good.
Hey, thought I had a wasp on me. All right, come on dogs. Got you guys some nice cold fresh eggs right out of the refrigerator.
Hey Cora, what are you doing girl?
Getting you a cold drink. Hey Mr. Russell, what you doing boy? Huh? What you been doing? Oh yeah, you smell them eggs, huh? You smell them eggs? All right, come on.
This one's Leky's bowl, which sometimes they share.
It's so hot out here. I got these right out of the refrigerator and uh condensation on them. They're they're nice and cold, but it's hot outside here. Let's go to the next bowl. Let's go to the next bowl.
There's Miss Cora.
There's Miss Cora. Yeah, condensation.
Uh-oh. Look, I just cracked one in my pocket. Look at there. Rust. Is that why my pocket feels wet now? Is it leaking out in my pocket?
You're not gonna let your mama have that one?
Yep. My pocket's a little sticky now.
Come on, Core.
Come on, Corey girl.
Let's get it out of there. There we go.
You want to lick it? No. These dogs do not like the shells. I know a lot of people tell me to feed them the shells, but they just don't like it. They don't need the calcium, they said, or they'd be eating them.
All right, so we got we got these dogs on a little bit of a diet because uh Cora especially and Mr. Russell, they are just getting so big, like a little bit overweight, which is not healthy and it's hard on their joints and everything. And uh we try to keep them healthy and they they run all the time.
But uh what are you girls doing anyways?
I think they were getting a little bit overweight, so I kind of cut their rations back just a little bit. Still giving them the eggs, so they're getting the pure protein. Still getting their kibble, but I just kind of cut it back a little bit. Lei, he's looked the same ever since he's been about 2 years old.
Never had a problem with him. But uh Russell and Cora, man, they were getting really thick.
You're thick, too, Ruby. Come on, let's go eat.
Come on, girls. Get in here.
All right, bucket cam.
Bucket cam time.
Oh, there's the twins over there.
There's the two new twins. They're not that new. They're a couple weeks old, two or three weeks old now, but they're doing good. Everybody's still doing good. Still got a bunch of little boys over here. A few girls need to go through them still, but they're healthy.
So, that's the main thing.
Nice looking bucks.
All right, let's go check on these donkeys real quick. There's the donkeys.
There's Mr. Henry, man.
You know, Henry.
So, uh, we got a lot of the eastern bluebirds. Um, we've got a lot of nest around. Some of them don't have lids anymore. Like this one right here. Don't have a top on it. Somehow the roof come off. But we got other bluebird houses around and we like to uh provide a little bit of a nesting box for the eastern bluebirds. The only problem is sometimes the sparrows try to come in and sometimes they're mean to the babies and try to knock the babies out of the nest and use them for theirel. But yeah, I don't like being mean to the sparrows, but they they're they're kind of mean to the uh eastern bluebirds.
They really like them. Ever since we've lived here, we tried to put up the uh bluebird houses, and it seems like they come back every year.
Here, girls, I gave you guys extra food today. Look, they just got to argue over the bowls.
Henry's like, I wanted to taste her bowl. Well, guess what? You're not eating anything right now cuz you're standing over here whining about it.
Eda, have you been good girl or not?
Huh?
Uh-oh. You're going to make Eda mad. She just pinned her ears back. Look. Where are you following me? Here, Henry. Look.
Here's your bowl, buddy.
Come here.
Goodness. I don't know what your deal is. I don't know.
So, anyways guys, hope you guys are all having a wonderful day. Like I said, just wanted to uh give you guys a little update on the turkey eggs. Not a lot of exciting things going on right now. Um just hoping we don't get any major storms here in the next couple days or this week, but it is supposed to rain quite a bit. I think uh me and the kids are going to go down to the dock and do some fishing here in a little bit. Try to enjoy this weather. It's not too windy right now. So, it's actually a very beautiful evening.
A mocking bird's up here in the wild cherry tree. So, this mocking bird, I don't know if it's the same one or if it's the same family or what, but there is a wild cherry tree. I'm going to zoom in on it. Maybe right there. Right there. Just on the other side of the shop. That thing has been here since since we've lived here for 20 years now.
21 years, something like that. Anyways, the mocking birds have always come to that tree and they have a nest somewhere. I don't know where they have the nest at, but they come and they stay in that tree. Either the male or the female, I'm not sure which one it is, is always in that tree about this time until, you know, probably August or so.
I don't know where their nest is. I've never seen them go to the nest, but they stay in that wild cherry tree all the time. And all day long until the evening time, they will just sit here and mock all the other birds and all the sounds and stuff. It's pretty amazing. So, I don't know. I know the mocking birds, it ain't the same one that's been here for 20 years, but I think that the babies to the ones that are the ones in the tree all the time. I think it's their uh their generational uh kids or whatever.
I think they just stay around here. And I think it's the same offspring that comes back. But who knows? But anyways, we enjoy nature. We enjoy the birds and all that, but uh one year in one of our bluebird houses, I got it on video one my I think first year I was doing YouTube and we had about a five or six foot blacknake go into one of the eastern bluebird houses and uh eat some of the babies. Luckily, I got it out and saved some. But yeah, I think I caught all that on video. But anyways, guys, have a wonderful day. Please leave us a comment. Make sure you're subscribed and uh we'll see you next time.
