Lester’s project is a masterclass in rural pragmatism, turning a natural liability into a functional asset through intuitive engineering. It’s a compelling look at how strategic land management simplifies the chaos of nature into a maintainable system.

Tuesday LIVE: coffee and LonghornAdded:
know what to do to fix this computer.
I do not know what to do, guys. Good morning. It's getting very frustrating.
Every time, like every time I go live, no matter which channel I go on, the first time I go live, there's never any audio. And I don't know why.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
It's only from the phone.
Um, whenever I go live on my computer, it's not an issue. It's only on the phone.
So, I don't know if it's a phone issue or a YouTube issue.
I just cannot figure it out for anything. But, uh, good morning, guys, and thank y'all for jumping on this morning. Happy Tuesday.
And happy um Hey Jeff. Happy Tuesday.
I'm going to go out and show you guys.
Oh, it's not Apple products, guys.
Let's not start the Apple versus Android debate. I've never seen people argue so much as they do over Apple versus Android.
I don't want to argue this morning. I but I do not know what could be going on. I did my phone update just to make sure.
And um I removed YouTube, reinstalled, cleared all of that cash. I just don't know what's going on. But it's the first time I go live, there's no audio. If I stop it and start again, there is audio.
So I don't get that for anything. Guys, I am sore this morning. I am so very sore.
Happy 61st birthday, Kelly. Happy 61.
All right, let me take you out with me.
We'll come back in.
Let me take you out for a bit and show you what we did yesterday.
I got my coffee with me. Coffee clinks to you all. Come on, Stella. Let's go.
Come on, sweetie.
I'm moving down these steps very slow.
All right.
You going to come, Stella? Come on.
Let's go show them what we did.
Um, walk out and show you right quick. We're going to take a little walk.
So, you know, we have this bulldozer.
I got everything taken care of down by the pond. That come out real nice.
And then um well I say real night they come out it come out pretty good.
So the pond area is cleaned up. We'll drive over there in a little bit. I'll be right back, Tyrone.
But um talk about sore, guys. You don't realize how much of a strain it is getting up and down and up and down and up and down on a bulldozer.
And uh it took a little while to get the hang of it, but once but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.
Stella, please stay here. Oh no, Stella's trying to follow me.
There's Caroline eating off of Jezebel.
So, this job is not done at all.
This is only what I could get done in half the day yesterday.
They got the uh bulldozer here.
Caroline, get off of her. You're a big girl.
Poor Jezebel.
They dropped the bulldozer off yesterday morning. Uh, no, it was about noon. You guys were I went live when they did it.
And uh, it was funny because I could not figure out how to use it. And while I was on a live stream video, I had to literally use my son's phone to call and ask the guy how to make it move.
I was so embarrassed about that, but like, "Hey man, how's this thing move?"
Well, the thing is I've rented before.
I've rented excavators, skid steer, track hose, and bulldozers. I've rented them before.
I've used them before for different projects, but I'll tell you what, that one and well, the guy said it himself, the guy told me, he goes, "That's a new model, and that's the first time we have that kind of a model." So, he goes, "You can't really."
He goes, "We ain't going to hold it against you."
But what I should have done, Stella, stop. What I should have done was asked the guy who dropped it off how to use it, and I didn't do that.
That was my mistake. Stella, I do not want to try to defend you out here in this pasture with these Longhorn. Here they all come to.
So, I've been talking to you guys for a long time about what I would like to do.
Come on, Stella. Stella, come on. Stick with daddy.
So, remember we have this dry creek that winds around leads to the back of the property and uh it was just nasty. It was it could not get in there to mow. It was a deep ravine and every time we got a heavy rain, it would just make it deeper.
cows and stuff would get down in there and hide their babies.
Then they would lose their babies. You all know the story of Jolene losing her baby. It was hard to cross it. You could not hardly get across it. You had to find and put your covers and spots here and there.
So, I wanted to turn that little dry creek into more of a canal.
And so I started over here at the culvert.
Now I want to clean up some stuff some stuff over here in this back corner.
It's just I can't really move around with that bulldozer because of my fences.
But from right over here, we took the dry creek and turned it into a canal. And we're going to run this thing all the way back.
Like all the way back. So when water comes through here, we're going to get this all cleaned out. It's going to come down this canal.
So if you remember right here, the dry creek turned off and went that way.
It circled around. We used all the dirt from inside here.
And um so this will this will make it nice and wide where I can still get in here.
Guys, remember it's a dry creek most of the year. It only fills with water during heavy rains.
And so for the most part, this looks really good. But now I can get over here. I can mow. I can come down in here if it if it's not wet, like when it's been, you know, when it's dry, I can get over here and mow.
And we're going to run this here, this this kind of canal all the way to the back.
But getting off and on and off and on that tractor. Oh lord, I am sore this morning. Uh-uh. Hey, Stella.
No, you leave her alone. This over here is You're being naughty. It's Calamity Jane, guys. She's a sweet girl. I love her, but she can sure be naughty.
So, we making kind of a canal.
And uh we're going to have to probably go a little bit deeper.
Leave her alone because as of right now it's kind of running uphill. I can see that it runs uphill. It's lower there and it runs uphill to here. So we're going to have to go deeper. Keep pushing more dirt. And so we've just put all the dirt into the old dry creek. Go on Stella. This I wish Dela would go home.
She knows she's not safe here.
Let me watch her for a minute.
Go home sweetie.
Stella is alert now that now this Gosh Stella.
Stella, come here, love. Say bye, daddy.
Anyway, you can see what we got going over here. Hopefully, if this will be a way that we can move water when it we get these heavy rains. No, if we can move water. Oh lordy. Leave her alone. Stella, come on guys. I got cats following me, too. Come on, Stella.
Come on, Stella.
I'll try to show y'all some work. Come on, Stella. Come with daddy.
Stay with me.
All been filled in with dirt.
You can see over here where the the remnants of the old dry creek are at.
Right through here all this stuff over here.
So, we have a lot more to go. This is just half the first half day. Look, my cats are here, too. They're like, "Hey, we're going to eat. Dad. Dad. Dad. What time we eating? Dad. Dad. What time are you going to feed us? Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad, are we going to eat? Dad, breakfast.
Okay, Nikki, Bella, and Shadow, I hear you. Oh, man.
There they go. Like, oh, Dad's going to feed us. Thank God he didn't forget. I did not forget to feed you. Gosh, guys.
God forbid I break my routine.
God forbid I break my routine to show y'all some progress over here on the ranch property.
Anyway, that canal is going to come from that corner and go all the way back to the pond. I'm going to dig around the pond a little bit. Make that a little bit prettier, a little bit nicer. It's going to go on. Then it's going to kind of turn, make a deep wide turn and go straight back to where it exits the property.
And uh what I like about this idea is that when I come out to mow, we can mow right down through the dry creek because it's no longer a ravine.
Now it's a nice wide canal.
So water can still flow.
We still have to have a place for water to flow off the property. It can still flow. It's just not going to flow into that little narrow ravine that I couldn't get into and get out of and clean up around. Now I keep things cleaned. I hope that makes some sort of sense to you.
All right.
And now we can start our morning chores.
Come on, Shadow. Come on, Nikki. Okay.
Hey, come on. Come on, you two. Shadow, you're not driving the bulldozer.
Shadow, you're not driving the bulldozer.
He's like, "Oh, ain't you going to do some tractor work today?" Yes, Shadow, after I finish my coffee.
A man got says, "Need his coffee first."
Guys, I'm not wearing glasses right now.
I don't know what you're saying.
I do know that one of my eyes keeps watering.
I don't know why my left eye is has been watering for a couple of days now.
Just my left eye.
So, I don't think that's Come on, Stella. I don't think that's allergies when only one eye waters. I don't think that's allergies, guys. But I don't know for a fact.
All right, everything's looking good out here. I left my coffee on my side by side. I'll grab it in just a second.
Yeah, it's crazy how sore you get just from climbing up and down and up and down to a tractor.
Things you don't normally do.
I see a car stopped at the road.
A white vehicle is sitting at the road.
Don't know who that is. You guys, let me drop you off over here and put some stuff out for Shadow and Nikki.
Good morning.
Good morning, little ones.
All right, Shadow and Nikki, here I am.
Here I am. Let me put my camera down.
Come here. Do not mess with my camera.
Move your tail. There we go. Shadow, do not mess with my camera.
Hey, Nikki.
Hey, sweetie.
Y'all got a bunch of Oh, boy. You guys are so hungry, huh? Here. Oh, there you go. There's one.
Oh, Nikki wants that one. Shadow, you want this one over here? There you go, Shadow and Nikki. There you go.
Shadow and Nikki.
>> Stall.
>> Still, you don't eat cat food.
You don't eat cat food. Stall, I'm going to go get my side by side and be right back.
I'm coming.
I hear you.
Give me a moment. Moving slow this morning, guys. I'm moving slow, but I'm moving.
At least I'm still moving, guys.
I might be moving slow, but I'm still moving.
All right.
Should be enough. Hey, you guys come with me. I'm going walk you over to let the uh my little chickens out.
I done said I'm coming.
Oh yeah, today's Tuesday and so that means it's Jamie's timeout Tuesday tonight.
And I think we're going to try if we can to go live, take Jake, my nephew Jake, to eat gumbo for his birthday.
Jake is a gumbo guy like I am.
Good morning. Hello.
Good morning, you guys. Hello. Oh, boy.
Look who's so happy to be out and about.
It's freedom, huh? Freedom.
Little chicks. Y'all can come out, too.
You got to keep their door open. See them right there? What's going on over here?
Come on, Larry. Bring your ladies outside. I keep their door open.
Y'all still have water? Yep. They got plenty of water. There's still some food, but I'll come fill all that stuff up later.
And we still have 19 babies who are alive and well. So, we're so very blessed for that. Come on out of there, you guys. It's It's daytime.
The weather's nice, too. Going to be nice weather day. It's going to be a nice weather day, guys. Come on out of there, friends.
I don't think we had any rain in the forecast today, so these little chicks will be fine to be out and about.
What are you guys doing?
I got some good news. I sold more eggs.
I sold another dozen for $50.
That means as of right now, I'm up to 190.
Not too shabby, guys. $190 on my silky eggs.
And I've been able to incubate and hatch three.
I'm coming, Grandpa.
So, I know that the operation is just getting started, but I also called and spoke to Tim yesterday. Did I tell y'all the story already? Am I repeating my stories like an old man?
There's Satin and her babies.
She's out and about this morning.
Shush it up.
Yeah. So, I have a I spoke to the Tim at the feed store and he was able to sell his silky eggs, the ones I dropped off to him, no problem. cuz I was afraid.
I was afraid that no one in this area would be able to afford $25 eggs. Come on. You want All right. Stella is on.
I don't mean that in a mean way, guys.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but some areas, how do I say this the right way, guys?
I'm going to have a hard time saying this. What I'm trying to say is that not designer, fancy, cool, specialty eggs are not for everybody.
Some folks just want a dozen eggs to eat and they ain't going to pay $25 for a dozen eggs to eat, right?
But other people who who understand the whole silky part of it would be able to pay $25 from for eggs to raise if they want a specialty or designer chicken.
So what I'm trying to say is that designer chickens, specialty chickens are not for everyone.
And that's why I I was I was I told Tim, hey, if no one buys them, it's okay.
If no one has an interest in this type of chicken, hey, then that's okay. I just I didn't want to make him feel like he was obligated to keep buying my eggs.
But no, he was able to move that first two dozen with no problem. Now, I did not ask him his business sense of it. If he paid me $25 a dozen, I wonder how much he sold them for.
Guys, I got little chickens all over the yard now. They're coming out. The little ones are coming out, guys. They're coming out and they're having some fun.
Let me throw some scratch over right quick. The little ones are coming out and they're having a good time being big boys and big girls.
Look at Don't get scared cuz I'm over here. I'm going to give y'all some feed.
There we go.
That's just some scratch. There's still They got feet on the inside, too, guys.
There's feet on the inside and they're feeders.
Yeah. I got an email from a lady and she was a not having a very good day.
I'm not going to say any names. And I'm sure she's a sweet lady.
And she said that you should name you should rename your ranch to the J ranch. Take the L off of it.
She says because this is not the same ranch that it was before.
Hi Ivy.
Hi, beautiful.
He goes, "Wait, Dad. How come we don't get no song?" Well, I wake in the morning and I step outside and I take a deep breath and I feel real high and I scream at the top of my lungs, "What's going on?"
Cuz my horses need hay. Hey, hey, hey.
They need hay.
That's what's going on.
My horses need hay. Hey, hey, hey.
They need hay.
That's what's going on. Oh, they need hay. The guys, that's what's going on with them. They just need their hay.
Come on, guys.
Hi, beautiful girl. Good morning, sweetie.
Hi, sweet baby.
>> Good morning.
Like a flick of hay here.
Hey girls.
Hey Rita.
What's going on?
Well, when I wake in the morning, and daddy got theirs, guys. Don't worry.
What's going on?
There you go.
Oh, Gemma, I'm coming, sweetie. Poor Gemma.
Gemma, you just can't find anywhere to eat, sweetie. Here.
Here.
Stop that.
All right. Come on, Stella.
Come on, sweet Stella. Let's go, love.
Okay. Well, we got the horses all fed and my big birds, dude. Hey, Mr. Bangs.
Hello, handsome devil.
Big guy.
You're looking so handsome, Mr. Fella.
Okay, guys. We're going to drive down now. Good morning, sweet ladies.
We're gonna drive down now and say hi to our truckers. Come on, Stella.
Up, up, up. Let's go. Hong Kong fooy.
Stella, come on. Up, up. There you go.
Good girl, Stella.
Yeah, this here lady says she's not having a very good day, guys.
you should name you should rename your ranch the J ranch and she says because it used to be something the Jamie and Luster you had your name on it she goes but now all I see is everything Jamie Jamie wants the pond cleaned out so she gets the pond cleaned out Jamie wants chickens so now there's chickens she go that means there's chicken [ __ ] on everything. She goes, "You got that god awful chicken screaming and crowing and all the noise and it's no longer what it used to be."
She goes, "It's time. You should man up, Lester. It's time for you to grow some balls and be a man and stand up for something that you want."
And so normally, you know, you take emails like that and you just Oh, she even went on talked about the house, the fact that I, you know, the house that I want, I get no say so in the house and it has to be, you know, all the things, guys. She really she really strung it out. I shared the email with Jamie. But before I shared the email, I had a real simple reply and it said, "Sweet lady, I'm a two-time divorcee."
I says, "And I think if you ever was to go back and examine my two marriages, it was because I didn't listen to my partner. I didn't take into account her wishes and her desires. I didn't. It was all about a selfish luster.
It was only about whatever I wanted. I said, "And where's that got me?"
I said, "So, yeah." I says, "I try to listen to what Jamie wants and we try to find ways to make it happen."
And that was my reply. Real plain and simple.
Not a whole lot to it. Just let her know that, hey, I think I know what I'm doing here.
And believe it or not, guys, believe it or not, she replied very apologetic.
You're right, Lester.
I I forgot how she said it, but she just kind of wish that her partner would also show her half of that kind of consideration.
All right, guys. We got a lot of traffic today.
We might have us a good day here.
Maybe.
Let's see if we can do it without the sign. We'll do it. We'll go without the sign first, guys. Without the sign. I got a bad shoulder.
Okay. What am I doing wrong, guys? What am I doing wrong lately? What am I doing wrong here?
Is it the the green hay that's stuck on me?
There's one.
Is it cuz I have green hay stuck all over me that no one's honking at me?
And now there's no car. There's no trucks, guys, for for a ways.
There's no trucks for a ways.
Oh, this coffee is good.
So, you guys cannot hear the trucks again.
So, from what I understand, you guys cannot hear the trucks honking.
That means you could probably not hear the side by side either, could you? It's like I'm floating on air.
It's like I'm just floating on air.
Well, some are honking and some are not.
I'll just tell you that much. Some honk and some do not. Here come a couple.
Y'all can hear me, right? Here we go, guys. Come on. Come on, FELLAS.
We got a couple guys. We got a couple over there. We got a couple of guys that are friendly and having a good day.
All right. Well, I don't see any more trucks, guys. That's three, guys. That was three that honked at us.
There's a Monty over there on that side over there. There's a Monty. He don't see us though. Can you see us? Nope.
He's not looking. He's not looking, guys.
Hold on, Stala.
So, YouTube is doing all kinds of things.
Playing around with their volume, guys.
Playing They're playing around with their audio. I hope that you can tell.
If you cannot hear my side by side, even though I'm driving, if you cannot hear those trucks, even though they're honking. Oh, there goes the whole convoy right there.
Then that right there tells you that YouTube is playing around with their audio. That's a YouTube thing. That's not a Lester thing. So, don't be upset with me because you can't hear.
Some people may appreciate the fact that you can't hear any background noise like wind, but don't you kind of want to hear the donkey's breay, the horses whine, wean, the cows bellow.
Don't you want to hear the chickens crow?
Don't you want to hear the dogs bark, the kitties meow, the truckers honk?
So that's a problem, YouTube. That's a problem, guys. I'm telling you, I don't I can't control it. I'm not Oh my god. Stella, are you okay, sweetie?
Sorry, Stella.
Did y'all hear that?
Stella, I'm so sorry, sweetie. It did not land on her. It just splashed on her.
Gosh darn it. Sorry, Stella.
So, there are some good things about, you know, hiding background noise, but there's also some things that are not good. When you run a farm and you want to hear animals, you want to be able to be a part of farming and the farm lifestyle. I hope there there has to be a way we can turn that option off.
I and I and listen, I'm going to go ahead and say it. I also think that's the reason that I'm having audio issues when I start my live stream.
Maybe it's confusing my me with other noises and and it's and it's and it's not so much the the maybe it's not on mute, it's just blocking me like I'm the background noise.
Maybe YouTube thinks that I am the background noise.
Think about that for a minute.
YouTube thinks that I'm background noise. Guys, my mower, my mower worked hard yesterday, guys. Look at the pretty lines.
All the pretty lines that my mower made for me. You did a good job, Blade.
He was working into the night, guys. He worked into the night.
You did a good job, little buddy. I'm proud of you, Blade.
It really does take a lot of the workload off of me. I mean, come on. I'm I'm not incapable of mowing. I have a riding mower, but uh having Blade do his part certainly helps.
Y'all want to go see the pond real fast?
Can someone tell me what time it is right now? What time is it right now, guys? Someone give me a time check.
35. We got plenty of time. Plenty of time.
Oh, when I wake in the morning and I step outside and I take a deep breath and I feel real high.
I know. Cill goes live at 8. And I am going to go in and have me another cup of coffee, guys. I lost all of mine, man. It's all over Stella. My coffee is all over Stella, guys.
Do it. do.
And so I wake in the morning and I step outside and I take a deep breath and I feel real high and I scream at the top of my lungs.
What's going on?
So it's a little bit sloppy right now, guys. It's going to clean up a lot. Lou, it's going to clean up. Don't worry. It looks sloppy right now, but the hole has been filled in.
There's no longer a hole for the horses to fall in.
And then the pond area itself looks a little bit sloppy, a little bit janky, but it is going to be okay.
There's still some plant life in there, guys. I want you to notice that you can still see some plant life. Can y'all see the plant life over there in the water?
And so remember that plant life is what the fishies eat on that produces oxygen for the fish and that they can eat on that. So the small fish will eat on that stuff and the larger fish will eat on the small fish.
Okay? So there's still plant life in the water. It's not completely vacant of everything. I did not take all of the oxygen producing plants out of there. I just took some of the nasty weedy stuff from around the edge.
Now, there are some that I could not reach and those are those are going to keep growing. So, there's going to be spots where there's still going to be a little foliage into the pond here and there.
All right.
So, but this is the look of the pond now. I see fish out in the middle moving around.
It's cleaned up a whole lot. I'm going to go to the feed store and get some grass seed. I've already called. They have both bermuda and bea. And I'm going to get my uh seed spreader and come by here and spread really pretty seed all around the part that has all been eaten up from the um bulldozer.
And then I'm going to also take that same seed and spread it all around in those areas over there in that back pasture where we used that bulldozer.
And it's going to be nice and beautiful in a month. Okay? Give me a month to make it nice and beautiful. Please give me a month, guys. Just give me a month.
It's only April, so maybe by May, by the mid by miday, mid or late May, it'll be so so pretty. At least we hope so.
I know that I talked about doing some stuff over here and I still might.
Uh I just don't know exactly how I'm going to do it. I don't want to take all my trees out because I want to leave these trees. But that low spot over there, I would not mind making more of a canal through there as well or even a pond.
But it would not be a deep pond. It would just be kind of me taking that bulldozer and doing some some stuff.
All right.
So, we're going to figure it all out, guys.
I'm just going to play around with it a little bit by day and see what happens.
I don't think we're going to have a bunch of rain this week, which will be a great week to get some things done.
Hold on, Stella.
Well, guys, if you if you're uh if you're okay with this, I'm going to take you inside with me now. I'm going to pull you indoors.
I'm going to grab you by the hand and say, "Come with me.
I want to offer you a cup of coffee and we're going to go inside and have that coffee together."
And then anybody who does not want to have a cup of coffee with Lester, that's fine.
But uh this is the end of the animal portion of our morning video.
This is the end of the animal portion, guys. The animal portion is now over.
Everything's looking wonderful.
The rain that we' gotten was was great.
It did not fill up my pond, though.
And I don't think we're going to have rain for a week until the weekend.
Ain't no one after y'all.
Hey, before before I take you inside, I want to show you one really cute thing.
Okay, just watch one thing that's really cute. I'm going to sit you guys down and let you watch one really really cute thing. Okay, let me get her plate. Hold on one second, mama. Hold on.
All right, watch this. There's a whole smorgas board of deliciousness right there. I'm gonna walk away and let you guys watch what happens.
Stella, come here.
All right.
Wasn't that cute?
Wasn't that just one of the cutest things to see that happen?
I brought my signs out. I'm going to get them set up at some point.
I don't know where I'm going to hang them all.
I got all of these signs.
But I'm going to hang up.
I just have to do it.
Kitty catch. I've already eaten. They're like, "Okay, let's go have a cup of coffee with daddy. Come on, Shadow.
Let's go. Meet me. Come on, Daddy. Me and Shadow are going to go have a cup of coffee with you and Stella." No, you're not.
You go do your job and look out for mice. Go get the mice. Stella, you be sweet to her. She lives here.
Stella. Stella. Shadow. Come on. Poor kitty cats.
Stella's not after y'all.
Look at They follow me everywhere. You little beggars. You're not hungry still.
I just fed you. You little beggars.
Like, yeah, because sometimes you feed us twice. Could we get Could we get two meals this morning since we're good kitties?
Well, you are good kitties, but you're not going to eat twice.
Guys, I love them, but they're not going to eat twice.
Good morning in there.
Good morning in there, you two. You three.
All right, guys. Give me one second here, please.
Coffee and creamer.
Stella, you got to be sweet to those little kitties. All right. I know that you're a sweet girl.
You got to be careful with them.
They don't want you to scare them like that.
Come on, scout.
It is well.
It is well in my soul.
In my soul.
It is well.
It is well in my soul.
In my soul.
He goes, "Hey, that's not my song." I know. It's a different song. I think that people get tired of your song.
These dreams go on when it's cold outside.
Don't you jump off of there. Okay. You got to hold on.
You got to hold on up there. Okay.
These dreams, do not jump in my hot coffee. Okay. Do not jump in my hot coffee.
All right. Good. I'm glad you did not jump into my coffee.
You want to come down? Are you so scared this morning?
You want to stay up there or want to come down?
You're being a good little guy. You're being a great guy. Hey, coffee clings to you all. Coffee clinks, guys.
Is it clo and dagger? Could it be spring or fall?
I walk into the mun.
You want to get on my finger? Come on.
Get up there.
Get on one finger. This one over here.
You got to stay up there. You got to learn to perch.
Guys, is this the right chicken?
