Dear Timmy, Should Everyone Be An Atheist?

[00:00:04]Do you think everybody should be an atheist?

[00:00:07]>> [laughter] >> And I mean that's a you know, I guess since I'm atheist, that's probably a fair question.

[00:00:17]You know, cuz you would think that I probably would think so.

[00:00:20]Um but my answer might surprise you.

[00:00:25]Hi everybody. Hey, my name is Tim Gibson. Welcome to my channel. I'm a former fundamental evangelical Bible thumping tongue talking Holy Ghost rolling pastor. Did that for 30 years. Spent 48 years as an evangelical Christian, now atheist.

[00:00:44]Uh which just means I don't see enough evidence to convince me to believe in God anymore.

[00:00:48]Um so do I think everybody should be an atheist?

[00:00:52]You know, I I Honestly, no. Um no. No, I wouldn't say that I think everybody needs to be atheist.

[00:01:00]Though everybody is atheist.

[00:01:04]Right? Do I mean, do you believe in Thor?

[00:01:08]I mean especially for you Christians.

[00:01:10]You Christians are I can never be an atheist. Well, you are an atheist.

[00:01:15]And just not about Jehovah, but about every other god, Allah, all the Hindu gods, Krishna, I mean, you know, I don't even know all the There's been thousands of gods.

[00:01:28]And you're atheist as it relates to all of those gods except your particular god.

[00:01:37]So, you know, everybody is atheist as it relates to any other gods outside their own.

[00:01:44]Um and then there's people like myself are atheist as it relates to all the gods.

[00:01:50]Uh even though I often say this, I'm I'm atheist as it relates to the Bible God.

[00:01:56]I'm agnostic as it relates to, you know, if there's some supreme being out in the universe. I mean, I don't know, right?

[00:02:03]That's why I'm agnostic. But if you ask me if I believed if I believed that there was some god out there, I would say no, but I'm open to it.

[00:02:15]You know, if there was some kind of evidence or something. I mean, you know what I mean? Like I'm That's the misnomer I think with with when people think about atheism, especially Christians. You know, they think that atheists are like anti-god.

[00:02:29]Like >> [laughter] >> That's what it's like That's like being anti-Santa. You know, it's I don't believe in Santa, so I'm not anti-Santa.

[00:02:37]I just I just don't believe Santa exists. That's just I don't see enough evidence to convince me that Santa exists.

[00:02:44]Right? So that's that's all that it is.

[00:02:47]Uh but now to back to the question.

[00:02:50]I I just don't I I don't have this uh I really don't. I'm trying to I'm searching my heart here.

[00:02:59]Yeah, I just don't I don't I I don't I don't I don't I don't have that as even an agenda for my channel. Like I'm not trying to turn people into atheists.

[00:03:14]You know, um that's just how I identify when you talk about God. I'm like, well, I'm atheist.

[00:03:20]Right? I don't I don't identify as an atheist like out in the world.

[00:03:27]Um I I identify as like a dude that does certain things and likes certain things.

[00:03:33]You know what I mean? I I just I don't This wasn't my intention. As many of you know, if you're you know, someone that watches my videos, you you know this. I mean, I I this is I stumbled into this. I didn't set out to say, I'm going to be a deconstructionist guy on the YouTubes.

[00:03:54]I just never even thought about that. I talked about something one time and the video just kind of went viral-ish.

[00:04:05]Uh for me viral. Um You know, I think at the time I think I had like 429 [snorts] subscribers.

[00:04:15]And yeah, I posted some video about leaving Christianity and being a former cult leader type person based upon a Netflix series that I saw uh called Dancing for the Devil. You know, like my story is not This was not intentional. This kind of fell into my lap and I grabbed it by the horns and and said, let's ride this bull. You know, that's that's just how it happened for me. So yeah, no, just I'll straight to the point. No, I don't think everybody needs to become an atheist or should be an atheist. Uh I think everybody should do whatever they want to do, whatever's meaningful.

[00:04:55]Though I would say this, I would say this.

[00:05:01]What do I think everybody should be or do or is I don't have I really just don't have an opinion about that. Like, you know, like if someone says, "Where should I vacation?" I don't know. What do you like? You know, you like mountains? You like ocean? You like the woods? You like cities? You know what I mean? Like just because what I like to do on vacation might not be what someone else likes to do. So uh no, I I just don't think everybody should become an atheist.

[00:05:33]But I would say this is something I think everybody should do. And that is know the truth.

[00:05:40]Not the imaginary fake truths. I mean, like don't believe things to be true that can be proven false.

[00:05:50]You know what I mean? Like like that.

[00:05:53]Don't Don't believe things to be true that that literally just make you look like a It It's It you know, I I'm I apologize, but I know I bring this up all the time cuz they're just an easy crowd to pick on.

[00:06:13]But you know, don't don't believe the earth is is flat in a day and age that we know with absolute certainty that it's a sphere.

[00:06:30]Right?

[00:06:31]Like don't be a flat-earther. That's the only thing that I would I would say is you know, if you're going to believe in God, that's fine. But don't don't be the moronic type person that denies evolution facts, right? Or denies age of the earth facts.

[00:06:50]You know what I'm saying? Like just don't be a What is that that What is it that I I heard someone say?

[00:07:04]Um Yeah, just don't have beliefs that are contrary to like known truths.

[00:07:13]You know what I'm saying?

[00:07:15]That's That's the only thing I think that if I had like you know, everybody should, you know, no one likes to, you know, when someone says, "You should do this." You know, we all hate that, right? You know, when our parents say, "You should."

[00:07:30]So, you know, I don't even like the word that or that phrase, you know, you should.

[00:07:35]Uh though I would think it would be important that at least build your life on truth.

[00:07:47]Fine. Have some beliefs of things out there, mystical, supernatural, whatever.

[00:07:54]You know, things that are I guess potentially, possibly, maybe could be true. I mean, there's no evidence for it, but like, you know, you can't disprove it.

[00:08:06]You know what I mean?

[00:08:08]But But at least at least know things that are factually true and and don't believe things that are factually false. You know, like like cuz I you know, in the world I come out of, folks, you know, um like I you know, I have friends still to this day that think that God created Adam and Eve 6,000 years ago. You know, and it unfortunately it just makes people look ignorant. You know, and that's that's unfortunate. You know, so I guess I I would I would encourage everybody. Just Just don't be ignorant though. Just don't do that. You know, I spent too many years of my life ignorant. And and you know, am I embarrassed? I mean, uh >> [sighs] >> when I kind of really think about it, yes.

[00:09:10]You know what I mean? Like when I really think about some of the things that I believed and thought uh yeah, it's embarrassing. You know, it's It's like all the stuff I say, you know, on here, you know, that they're elevated and go all the way to the top. They're a fry short of a happy meal. You know, like That was me.

[00:09:31]You know, and uh Thankfully, I had an awakening, which I'm going to I'm going to talk about that. I'm going to do another video.

[00:09:40]Um Yeah, thankfully, you know, thankfully I I had a uh I [laughter] come to Jesus moment, if you will.

[00:09:50]I came to Jesus and was realizing that Jesus wasn't real. You know what I mean?

[00:09:54]Like it was like that.

[00:10:06]I mean, I I'm sure some of you uh are atheist. Uh some are agnostic, some are spiritual not religious, some of you are religious or Christian or Catholic or whatever you want to call yourself.
