[00:09:02]Okay. Um fill everybody in here. Sorry. I'm sorry to start stop talking about it's it's pretty sad, but hopefully it ends has a happy outcome. Anyways, my dog, she's going to be 6 years old this year.

[00:09:23]In July, she turns six. So, she's not that old.

[00:09:28]And for the breed and size, she is.

[00:09:31]She's She's not near a senior yet. She's got a few years till she gets to senior age.

[00:09:39]She uh got primary glaucoma. Fun fact, young dogs can get that. Started going blind.

[00:09:49]Um, but I caught it in time to save one of her eyes. So, she went completely blind in one eye. Did two surgeries to save the vision in her other eyes. And oh, it was Oh, it was awful.

[00:10:06]It was so awful. I had a I think I drove over 2,000 miles within a month because her treatment the specialist I went to see is in a different town that she had surgeries. Then I'd have to take her twice a week to get checkups and then it became once a week and then last week it became monthly. We reached the point where she didn't have to go get her eyes checked again for another month. And I was like, "That's huge.

[00:10:42]I can live life a little bit again outside of her treatment."

[00:10:51]And I thought, "Ooh, I will stream."

[00:10:56]And I meant to or I wanted to start using my mic and stream more in February. And I was like, "Yeah, March I'm going to stream and April I'm going to stream and then we'll see what's going on in the summer because that's when I get busy."

[00:11:10]Sorry, where was I? Yeah, she had her last checkup and I said, "Yeah, I'll start streaming again in two days.

[00:11:19]Uh, then an hour before her, no, an hour before I was supposed to stream originally, she threw up. I was like, that's not good." And I'm sorry, this is kind of gross, but I knew something was really wrong cuz she didn't want to eat her vomit.

[00:11:36]Like, okay, that's pretty bad. She She's not wanting to eat it. Okay, that's not good.

[00:11:42]Um, so I took her to the emergency vet and cancelled or postponed what I'm doing here.

[00:11:54]and uh she's having some issue that is completely unrelated to glaucoma and it's oh my god I I went to the ER and they're like yeah this could be um from like GI issues. It could be she has an infection somewhere or you know she's just not she might be a bit sick. Uh it could be leukemia.

[00:12:17]It it could be bone marrow disease. Go see a a specialist.

[00:12:24]So yeah, that was hanging on.

[00:12:37]But she's been getting blood tests every other day and the trend is going up which is good. Like it's improving. I don't know what's going on. So yeah, I apologize for delaying it last week. I know it was so exciting.

But I think one of the issues was I I was drawing on way too small canvases.

[01:01:48]You know what's you know you know what else happened while I was away for my dog's treatment?

[01:01:55]My cat also got surgery.

[01:02:00]Three surgeries within a month across two different pets.

[01:02:08]But my cat's surgery was not not so serious. She has she had teeth she needed extract and she's old and had not good teeth and they needed to get out of there. It was free. I mean, because she's old, it was a bit nerve-wracking, but she recovered really, really quickly.

[01:02:35]She both of my pets really love food and she just had dental surgery and she was really out of it because of the anesthesia and she just wanted to eat. She wanted to eat her food so badly and she was struggling so much and she just dipped her face into her food and it get all over her mouth.

[01:03:00]But within 24 hours she was back to normal. She was eating normally and I think she is feeling much better than before. She purs way more than she did before.

[01:03:17]When I got her, she already had the issues with her teeth, but it had the surgery had to be put off for a little bit just to make sure she was healthy enough for it. And when I first got her, she was she purrred a lot and then I noticed she wasn't purring as much. I think it's cuz her teeth were really starting to hurt. So, I'm glad she got them out. I think there's a noticeable difference. I think she's a little nicer to kiss you now, too.

[01:03:47]It's really cute. Sometimes they boop noses. I really like when they boop noses, but sometimes they get mad at each other. Like, they still have to be I still won't let them be on their own together. Right now, Kissy is with me and Hy is out patrolling the rest of the territory. She's on watch duty right now.

[01:04:24]I got her so many places to sleep and she'll she's she keeps finding new favorite places and she'll completely abandon the old ones that she really liked. And I got Kissy a new bed.

[01:04:38]And I left it out for a while because it needed to air out. And now Hy has claimed this this bed that is way too big for her. I just did not expect her to want to sleep on a on a dog bed on the floor. She usually likes sleeping high up, but she really likes this bed.

[01:05:00]And then the bed I actually got for her, she no longer uses.

[01:05:08]That's okay. Cassie never ended up using that bed. I think cuz she's I don't know why she hasn't used it.

[01:06:20]Oh, yeah. Kissy was eyeing Hissy as Hissy was drinking from Kissy's water bowl.

[01:06:28]Now I was getting nervous and I was going kissy kissy cuz usually if I call her enough he will come over break her concentration on hissy.

[01:06:42]But she was just being so nice and patient. She was just waiting for hissy to finish. Hy finished drinking water.

[01:06:47]Then Ky went and drank water there. She was lined up. She was waiting her turn.

[01:06:54]So respectful.

[01:07:01]There's another really cute interaction they had cuz their dynamic is basically Hissy does not care about Kissy. Hy does not want Kissy near her just but she doesn't mind her if she's, you know, not too close. She doesn't care. But if Kissy gets too close, obviously she cares. So Kissy's learning has learned the boundary a bit better.

[01:07:25]But sometimes she still gets a little too close and Hissy will hiss, but Kissy just really wants to sniff her. Wants to sniff her and just wants to follow her and see what she's doing.

[01:07:45]But when uh when Kissy when Kissy came home from her first surgery, I'd been away for like three three days. I was away and his or Oh my goodness. And Kissy was in a cone.

[01:08:08]Poor Kissy was in a cone and she wasn't feeling that great. She had just gotten out of surgery, I think, that morning. Oh, no, no, no. She had surgery the day before. Stayed overnight, and then I picked her up that morning, and I went all the way home with her.

[01:08:26]She was tired, still kind of out of it in a cone. She hates the cone.

[01:08:33]And Hy came over and gently sniffed her face and then booped her nose and then walked away. And Kissy didn't even try chasing her or following her.

[01:08:47]It was so cute.

[01:08:54]And then I started overthinking everything when Kissy had to go to the ER on a Friday because I was thinking, what if Hissy smelled disease on her? What if she knew something was horribly wrong with her and she was sniffing it and now and my dog is going to have some horrible disease?

[01:09:20]I don't I still don't know what's wrong.

[01:09:23]But at least the most recent vets have been okay. The first vet I saw for for her emergency I'm talking about her again.

[01:09:42]Um, the first vet I saw when Kissy's blood work was the worst that it was.

[01:09:49]She was so sweet. She was an ER vet, by the way. Like, she usually probably deals with trauma and animals that are in life-threatening situations. She was really sweet, but the her the way she spoke had me so freaked out. She's she's like, you know, it's just I'm not really sure what it could be. It could just be, you know, the small issue, but I mean, it could be there's leukemia. There's there's bone marrow disease, autoimmune. I'm just sitting there like, "Excuse me, I I came here cuz she threw up." Oh, okay.

[01:10:34]And just switching. I think I think Kissy's getting too hot in her bed. She goes to the floor, then gets hot. Oh, no. Cools down, goes to her bed, gets hot.

[01:10:50]Yeah. Anyways, really scary. And then the next vet I saw was also an ER vet because I couldn't get her blood work with her normal vet within what I considered reasonable time. She was a lot more chill about it. Her her results were better, but she she was a lot more relaxed, which I don't I'm like, do I want you to be relaxed? I don't know. I want you to be honest with me. How bad is it? But she seemed more calm. And then Kissy's actual vet looked at her most recent blood work which again improved a lot and she basically said I there's no trends of it being certain really bad things. So I'm going to hope it's not I won't know more until next week.

[01:11:36]I really hope it's not anything crazy and she keeps getting better. She's really close to being within normal range again. And I just I don't know what happened and why why what happened happened. And she wasn't feeling that bad either. She was I I really just took her because she threw up and I was like that's weird. She's not eating her vomit.

I could I could watch Drake and Josh and I Carly, but outside of those I I did not want to watch anything that was not a cartoon.

[01:33:20]It's very tedious. She went down on a lot like for the glaucoma and now she's on like five new things which are kind of just we don't know what's going on. So they just were like these can't hurt so might as well try them and see if they help.

[01:33:47]The glaucoma medication is oh my goodness. I hope none of your pets ever get glaucom.

[01:33:56]It's a very sad disease, but the management is just crazy, too.

[01:34:03]You have to give them eye drops. And I think my dog was on I think the the most she was on was eight or nine eye drops.

[01:34:14]And I was having to do not all of them, but some of them I'd have to do six times a day.

[01:34:21]And you can't just do them all at once.

[01:34:23]You have to wait 5 to 10 minutes between each eye drop because you need to make sure like the medication, you know, is actually getting in there.

[01:34:37]I think now her glaucoma medication's down to three times a day. Eventually, it'll be twice a day, but because of the vet visit last week, she's on more medication that is timed really weirdly.

[01:34:54]She's on one medication that she has to eat with it twice a day and then another one she eats four times a day and she can't eat within 2 hours of taking it.

[01:35:05]So, she can't eat 2 hours before. I think she can eat 1 hour after they said, but she's not supposed to eat 2 hours before it.

[01:35:14]Is glaucoma treatable.

[01:35:17]It's there's the reason I was going out of town for her treatment is because I did research and the specific doctor I went to does a procedure that isn't done by many vet eye specialists or opthalmologists.

[01:35:38]So the one the procedure she got has an 80% chance of preserving her vision past a year and then it goes down every year but you can get the procedure done again and the vet her opthalmologist was saying it's pretty in her she's been doing this for like a decade and she said usually it it lasts for most of their life from what she's seen.

[01:36:10]Yeah, but it was 80% the first year, then the second year I think it goes down to 70 something%, then it goes down to 60ish%, then the fourth year it's below 50%, I think it's 48%. That's from the studies and what they're what you know she they showed they showed me. But she said in her experience usually if they still have their vision after a year and a half they're likely to have it for the rest of their life hopefully. I'd rather she have four years of vision than go blind right now. So if it came to that and she said you can do the procedure again. It's not too crazy, but it's it what sucks is it's expensive. So, a lot of people can't do it or it's not it's it suck. Glaucom is really horrible because if you don't do if you don't try to save the vision then and if you know their eyes go blind or you can't control the pressure of their eyes, you have to remove them. And just removing them is thousands of dollars.

[01:37:16]So, a lot of people end up having to euthanize their pets.

[01:37:22]I don't know as much about cats, but for dogs, dogs can adjust to being blind usually pretty easily. It's not their main sense. They start to rely on hearing and scent more.

[01:37:37]So, going blind is not the end of the world for a dog. It's just they they can't just keep their eyes if the pressure can't be controlled. They have to be removed because they're really painful. They cause they basically cause migraines.

[01:37:56]But you can there's also so there's eye drops which are the same medications that like humans with glaucoma use and they can help for a bit but almost always they they don't last forever.

[01:38:11]Like it can be months that they work. It can be years but eventually they'll stop working and they'll either need their eyes removed or they'll need some type of laser surgery.

[01:38:28]Goku's horrible.

[01:38:33]But so long as you can afford at least the procedure to remove the eyes if they do go blind, it it's not, you know, life ending. It's not is not the worst thing that could happen to your pet.

[01:38:56]It's pretty shocking though.

[01:38:59]And my dog is not there's two types of glaucoma. There's the primary glaucoma which is inherited and can occur in younger dogs. And then there's secondary glaucoma which is usually slower progresses more gradually.

[01:39:15]And then it's a bit it's not as bad as primary glaucoma, but secondary usually occurs in older dogs.

[01:39:24]My dog is not old. She's five, but her vision's been pretty good. She her vision was really impacted after the surgery. She had inflammation, which was she was blind sometimes. Like she she did have times where she was completely blind and she couldn't see in dimly lit rooms for a bit, but she's seeing pretty well now. Her double perception's messed up because her other eye is completely blind, but she's okay.

[01:40:05]That middle Asian dog here depends on the breed. Her breed usually goes 12 to 16 years, so not for her.

[01:40:23]Yeah. As long as they're happy.

[01:40:28]And her her most recent thing was so she what really sucked was I was telling the vet I she she was just down. She was in a cone for a really long time and I could tell she was not happy about it.

[01:40:44]She was still wanting. She was still excited about food and wanting to eat, but she was started having trouble going on walks. She just did not really want to, but she wanted to play. She didn't really want to walk anymore.

[01:40:55]And we kept being like, "Oh, it's the cone." Like the vets were saying it too.

[01:41:01]It's probably the cone. Just keep an eye on it. And at her last appointment, I said, "I'm really scared I'm overlooking something. I had a gut feeling something was off." And unfortunately, I was right.

[01:41:13]But she's bouncing even more normal than she did before her or before her. She's acting more normal now than when she started developing the glaucoma.

[01:41:29]So, she seems to be feeling pretty good.

[01:41:31]And she wants to walk again. She wants to play. She's being annoying again.

[01:41:40]Yeah.

[01:41:43]As long as they are happy and comfy, I just hope whatever happened doesn't happen again.
