This video demonstrates that repeated listening to music can lead to a deeper appreciation and understanding of albums that may initially seem disappointing. The presenter shares his personal journey with Rainbow's 'Straight Between the Eyes,' explaining how he initially disliked the album when it was new but later discovered its true quality through repeated exposure. This illustrates the concept that music appreciation often requires time and multiple listens to fully appreciate an album's artistic merits, as initial impressions can be misleading.

Rainbow - Straight Between The Eyes VS Deep Purple - House Of Blue Light (For Joseph Manella)Added:
[music] [music] >> Smack on my God, everybody. Joseph Minella. Hey, Joseph.
He sent me this donation well, yesterday cuz I'm putting this up on Thursday and I'm filming this on Wednesday.
And also, another thing that I got from Joseph yesterday, not only his donation but two other track by tracks, he got me Black Rain on vinyl. Got I I love you, dude. Seriously, he got me actually like a few days ago, four or five days ago, he got me No More Tears on vinyl.
And he asked me to put No More Tears versus Damn it, I forgot. I got such a bad memory, but I already did the track by track. It'll be up on Black Sabbath Sunday. No More Tears versus something.
And uh thank you and and now uh all I need to end my Aussie vinyl collection is Down to Earth, uh Osmosis, and I think that's it.
But according to Joseph Minella, those albums go for like 800 bucks now, so it looks like I won't be getting those. But I got them on CD, but I'll live. Anyway, thank you so much, Joseph.
I got this today. I will listen it to I will listen to this once I'm done with this track by track. All right?
Okay.
So, what Joseph wants me to do is Rainbow Straight Between the Eyes versus Deep Purple House of Blue Light. Now, the reason I'm putting this up today cuz he sent it to me yesterday and I'm putting it up so quick are two reasons.
Not One, I I ain't got no donations.
Actually, there ain't no donations for me to put up. Now, I know a lot of you sent me donations for Suck vs. Suck.
Trust me, they're all done and they're all scheduled.
You know, but I'm just saying regular Uh Joseph sent me three, so I'm going to have those three of them up in the next few days.
But, um And also tonight on Almost Human Live, if you're watching this right when I put it up on Thursday, on Almost Human Live tonight at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, we're going to do a 50th anniversary of Rainbow Rising episode, which I'm sure we'll talk about all Rainbow and stuff. I'm sure we'll even throw in some Deep Purple.
You know, and mama jokes. So, that's tonight at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. Join me and the Almost Humanoids as we talk about Rainbow's 50th anniversary. All right.
Now, as far as both these albums go, I got to tell you, man, I bought this when it was brand new. I I I saw Bad Reputation on MTV and I was like, [ __ ] That song rules. I ran out and bought the album and I was so disappointed in this album.
Then I stopped Yeah, it the tour didn't come I saw Perfect Strangers, but this tour didn't come down here and I kind of gave up on the album. I was like, whatever.
And I bought it, I didn't like it, and I didn't listen to it for decades till I had to do a track-by-track uh not that long ago.
And I was pleasantly surprised how really good this album is.
Yeah, I I I I Hey, man, I went decades without loving on this album. And let me tell you, when I heard it that one time, I grabbed it like a week later and jammed to it again. Like I jammed to it doing stuff around the house because, you know, there's different ways of listening to music.
There's listening to music taking notes.
And there's just listening to music where you're just lost in the music where you don't give a [ __ ] about taking notes, you know? Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. Now, is it amazing? No, I wouldn't say it's it's an amazing album, but it's way better than I remember. This one may be my favorite Rainbow album with Joe Lynn Turner. I love love love Straight Between the Eyes.
But, there are songs on there I don't like. There are songs on this I don't like.
All right? So, here we go. Let's get this started. Man, I'm feeling itchy. I need to take a shower.
All right. Um Oh.
The first one kills me.
Death Alley Driver versus Bad Reputation or Bad Attitude. Did I say Bad Reputation before? It's Bad Attitude.
I love Bad Attitude, but it loses.
I am a huge fan of Death Alley Driver.
It's like Highway Star part two. I'm a huge fan of that video.
Where Blackmore's in the back of the car and telling the dude run over Joe Lynn Turner that's riding a motorcycle. And then it zooms by a graveyard and they're jamming in a graveyard in a graveyard in the daytime. I freaking love that video. I love it.
Um and I'm giving it to Death Alley Driver. It hurts cuz I love Bad Attitude. Best song on that album. And that's not a good sign when the best song on the album loses.
Is Death Alley Driver my favorite song on Straight Between the Eyes, though?
Yeah.
Yeah, I say it is.
All right, next.
Stone Cold versus The Unwritten Law, man.
The Unwritten Law is killer. Listening to it today again.
I never got this song back in the '80s.
It's great. It's a great, great tune.
Stone Cold, though, wins.
Stone Cold features probably my favorite Ritchie Blackmore guitar solo ever.
And believe me, the guy's got a million guitar solos I worship.
You know?
Uh but something about Stone Cold, man.
That solo on that song and the song itself. Chill, mellow, amazing. I love it and it was a hit, deservedly so.
All right, I'm giving that to Stone Cold, even though I love The Unwritten Law. Next. Uh Bring On the Night versus uh Call of the Wild.
Easily Bring On the Night. I love Bring On the Night. Let the dream chaser take you away.
I love that song. I think it rocks. It's killer. It's a killer tune.
Um I hate Call of the Wild. See, that's another reason I don't like this album.
Cuz I bought it, I didn't like it and then they released a video for Call of the Wild that I I was like, "God, I ain't putting that album on again." That shit's terrible.
It is a bad song and it turned me off.
It's the worst song on the album, I think.
And I I and I love Bring On the Night.
All right, next.
Tight Squeeze versus Mad Dog. All right, Mad Dog is okay. It's not great. It's an okay tune. Tight Squeeze [ __ ] sucks.
That's one of the songs on here and I wouldn't say it's the worst song on it.
No, the worst song on here is coming up.
But Tight Squeeze is I don't care for it. I'm giving it to the kind of whatever song Mad Dog.
All right, next. Tearing Out My Heart versus Black and White. I don't mind Black and White, it's okay. Tearing Out My Heart, 100 times better. I love that song. I love Joe Lynn Turner's voice.
It's [ __ ] awesome. So, I'm giving that to Rainbow. Hey, let's pick a random album. Let's go Let's go way back here. I don't I don't go back here. Do I?
I don't recall ever going back here.
Uh Night Demon.
This is their live album. It's um It's actually this [ __ ] is actually three vinyl.
They're a badass band. You know, one of my bands, well, both my bands, the drummer was Brian Wilson. Brian Wilson joined Thrash or Die toward the end. But me and him formed a band called Combat that we released an EP and everything. Well, Brian Wilson went on to play with Yngwie Malmsteen. And now Brian Wilson is the drummer of Night Demon. And I remember when they met because we opened for Night Demon at at Churchill's. And then after the show, we all went to Denny's.
Brian Wilson, me, and we all hung out with the Night Demon guys. And at that time, Brian was Yngwie's drummer. And they got along and and that then that night Night Demon actually spent the night at my house. It was awesome. But anyway, I love I got to play this. This is their live album. This doesn't have Brian Wilson, though.
But I love me some Night Demon.
I'll crank that.
After I listen to that Aussie Black Rain.
All right.
Here we go. Power versus Hard Lovin' Woman. You know, they had a song I didn't want called Hard Lovin' Man.
It's an okay song, but compared to Power, it's a [ __ ] It's child in time.
You know, Power is [ __ ] lame. You know, Power rips off Do You Close Your Eyes from this album?
You know, it's it's so weird. I guess I I'll talk about it in tonight's show about how did Dio okay Do You Close Your Eyes if he was so against that [ __ ] I'll see what the almost humanoids with their answer will be.
But, um Power sucks. And Do You Close Your Eyes, Power takes that same riff and makes it I got to say, out of both of them though, I would say Power is better than Do You Close Your Eyes. That's how much I despise that song. Other than that song, man, this album is perfection.
Perfection. Stargazer, Light in the Black, my two favorites off there. Tarot Woman, Run with the Wolf, Starstruck, all great. Do You Close Your Eyes in my opinion.
Uh yeah, Hard Lovin' Woman, which is you know, it's okay. And it wins. All right, next. Miss Misstreated versus The Spanish Archer.
I like them both, but Miss Misstreated. Again, Joe Lynn Turner sings so good on that song.
Moody, kick ass, love it. Giving that to Rainbow.
All right, next.
Rock Fever versus Strange Ways.
Easily Strange Ways. Rock Fever is hands down the worst song on this album. Probably the worst Rainbow song ever.
I mean, yeah.
We have one of them.
That and and do you close your eyes probably the two worst song they ever did. And then power.
Yeah, that [ __ ] sucks. I'm giving it to Strange Ways. All right, last song.
Uh Eyes of Fire versus Mitzi Dupree. I think there is still more songs on Deep Purple. I could be wrong. But Mitzi Dupree is my second favorite song off this album. I think it's a great That's one that really woke me up. I was like, "Damn, man. That's a great tune."
I don't know why I didn't get it back then.
But it loses cuz it's going against Eyes of Fire. My second favorite song off and that's the song that could fit the Ronnie James Dio years. That's a total throwback. Like Down to Earth also had like Eyes of the World. That could have fit the Dio stuff. I don't think anything off Difficult to Cure could have, but Eyes of Fire totally could have.
So Joseph, this is a final score.
There you go.
And yeah, you know, I mean Let me see. Yeah, this Straight Between the Eyes I'd say yeah has three horrible songs and they went against three songs that weren't horrible. Not great, but not horrible some of them. So there you go. And Mitzi Dupree lost.
That's a great one. That's one should have won. But anyway, thank you Joseph and everybody out there. Thank you so much for watching. What do you think of these two albums? Leave them in the comments below.
And check out my live show tonight Almost Human Live if you're watching this on Thursday before 9:00 p.m.
Eastern Time when me and the Almost Humanoids talk about Rainbow Rising.
And thank you again Joseph and everybody out there. Hey, if you want to donate I got a PayPal in the description below and please subscribe to my channel if you haven't. Ring that little notification bell and like the video.
It's good for the YouTube algorithms.
So, stay frosty. Listen to the rainbow song called Light in the black and smack them on the cob.
