Winnipeg Sea Bears name new team presidentAdded:
The Winnipeg Sea Bears have a new captain at the helm as Rhiannon Marcoux was officially named the team's new president on Friday. Marcoux made a name for herself during an 11-year tenure with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. And now, she'll bring her experience to a Sea Bears franchise that's on the rise in popularity. Marcoux rose from the Bombers marketing department to vice president of marketing and communications for the 112th Grey Cup.
She came on board as a consultant with the Sea Bears last spring before being named chief brand and experience officer in January. I feel like my whole career has been kind of at the intersection of fan experience, fan engagement, building brand, and kind of big live moments. And that's what this role is all about. So, I do feel like this is the right next move for me. Um and I'm yeah, really excited about it. She understands all aspects of the business. It's It's not just sort of the show that fans see.
There's a a ton that goes on behind the scenes. David Asper, who remains the team's chair, says after working with Marcoux the last year, he knew she was the right person to lead the franchise into the next level of growth. That thought process is all about competence and capability. And uh Rhiannon had had been affiliated with us um for almost a year now. And uh she joined us full-time in January, and it was just a natural evolution.
The move makes Marcoux one of three female team presidents in the CEBL. She says while she wants to be a model for young women who dream of working in sports, it should be more of a norm. As much as it is nice, a little bit overwhelming to be thought of uh in that sense because, you know, when I started my career, there were few women um in the sports world.
And it unfortunately is still not quite where we would like it to be. Um hopefully one day this isn't a storyline, right? It's just normal, par for the course. The Sea Bears host the Niagara River Lions on Friday night, where Marcoux will be formally introduced to fans as the new president.
But as for her hoop skills, don't expect her to suit up anytime soon. I wish I had some bragging points there, but I really don't. I really don't.
>> working >> your jumper [laughter] now that you're officially in this role? I'll try. I'll try my best. Yeah.
