Heat wave continues as rain chances build

All right, so weather-wise, definitely warm out there and you know, I was talking with Danielle earlier and she was saying sometimes with these tractor fires, like we saw two of them this morning, it can the heat can really contribute to that, but what do we have on deck weather-wise?

[00:00:14]>> do have some really hot air in place and um temperatures will continue to be pretty humid as we head throughout the week and our rain chances are also going to be increasing as we head throughout the week. Right now, we'll take you outside, it's 85 downtown, feels like 91. Most of us are in the 80s, so that may not sound that warm, but that humidity makes it feel a lot hotter out there. So, over the next 12 hours, we can expect to top out in the low 90s today. We do have a slight chance of maybe a shower or two this afternoon or even a thunderstorm. But, the bigger rain chances will come later on this week. Our high temperature's likely topping out as I mentioned in the low 90s. Now, we're watching the tropics as well. We have Tropical Storm Bertha in the Gulf there of America. We are looking at a 60-mph storm right now.

[00:01:01]It's barely moving to the north-northwest at around 3 mph. So, it's moving west, it's moving away from Florida, more toward Louisiana and even into Texas. So, we'll look at the watches and warnings we have up right now. We do have um some warnings there in blue, some watches in yellow. And this is the expected track of Bertha. So, uh by tonight, we are looking at uh it's still being just there off New Orleans and some of the New Orleans metro could be impacted with heavy rainfall from this as well. And then it looks like by uh Thursday into Friday, we see things kind of settle down. For us, what this means is just more of that tropical moisture will be pulled up. We shouldn't have any direct impacts from Bertha, but we do have a cold front that's going to be dropping in from the north. So, that is going to set the stage to trigger um some more showers, some more storms as we head throughout the week and some of those could be severe. Here we're quiet right now, we're not looking at much of a rain chance throughout the day today, just a 20 to 30% chance overall, but we are going to watch out for flash flooding especially as we head through the week.

[00:02:09]Our severe threat today is pretty minimal, a level one there in North Georgia. Tracking this out for you, as I mentioned, maybe a few bubble bubbling up storms later this afternoon or this evening, but really more rain arriving tomorrow and certainly into Thursday.

[00:02:25]So, we will watch for some slow-moving storms which could actually cause that flash flooding as we wrap up this week.

[00:02:32]The rainfall over the next 3 days looks like this, maybe an inch and a half or more, a couple of inches for some of us. So, this is a look at your rain chances, they are with us all through the next weekend and then that pattern we're kind of stuck in. The big difference will be Savannah, our temperatures will start to back off at least by a few degrees as we hit especially Friday into Saturday because of that cold front and that rain coming through.
