Bay windows built close to ground level often have gaps in the brickwork beneath the soffit board that create hidden entry points for snakes, rodents, and other wildlife into basements; these gaps require proper repair using galvanized metal ledgers and tuckpointing with quality concrete to prevent future animal intrusion.

Hey there.
I want to show you some >> [music] >> interesting features on homes that cause major animal entry. In this particular case, [music] we've got snakes going into a basement, but we also have rodents going in there. And so, when they built [music] this bay window here, it's pretty close to the ground. So, I dug out this right side.
>> [music] >> And what you see when you get underneath here is a large gap in the brick that leads right into the flooring system.
Okay?
So, what needs to happen is is we're going to need to dig this thing out and install a gold metal ledger around it, and then also do some tuckpointing with some good concrete in that brick, so it's finished. Cuz what ends up happening is when they build these bay windows and they install the soffit board underneath, they don't have any clearance. So, it's very common practice. I've actually seen where the soffit board has been missing altogether where it's like you can see into the basement. The flooring system is there. No blocks, no nothing. So, we make a habit of checking these areas. This has been missed by other companies for years now, and these people can't figure out how >> [sighs] >> you know, stuff's getting in. So, this is I'm going on almost 30 years of doing this, and so I come out to help support my team in technical training.
And so, one of my team members needs support.
So, I'm never above that as an owner to come out and do support.
So, parked in the driveway, walked up to the house, I found it in about 30 seconds, but just because it's experience. So, you cannot infuse this type of thing unless you have a good trainer.
Not too many trainers that have been around for 30 years in the Atlanta area or really in the US that are still in the field training. We do that because we care and we're building something special. So, hope you learned something.
We're going to go ahead and finish this out and keep the snakes out.
