This video explains how Harvey Weinstein's third rape trial ended in a mistrial after the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict, despite his previous conviction being overturned due to improper testimony. The case illustrates the complexities of sexual assault trials, where conflicting accounts of consent, legal procedural errors, and jury deliberation challenges can lead to mistrials. Weinstein remains incarcerated from a separate 2022 California conviction for rape and sexual misconduct, highlighting how multiple legal proceedings can occur simultaneously in complex cases.

Harvey Weinstein’s Rape Retrial Ends in Mistrial After Jury Deadlocks | E! NewsAdded:
After being tried for a third time on charges of rape, Harvey Weinstein's latest [music] legal case once again ended in a mistrial May 15th after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision. This according to multiple reports. [music] Weinstein is accused of allegedly raping actress and hair stylist Jessica Mann in a New York City hotel room in 2013. [music] His lawyers claim the encounter was consensual, something Jessica denies saying she resisted [music] and repeatedly told Weinstein no during the incident. Jessica first told her story to a jury in 2020 [music] when Weinstein pleaded not guilty. He was later found guilty of third-degree rape and one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree [music] receiving a 23-year prison sentence. That conviction was overturned however four years later [music] after New York's highest court determined improper testimony had been allowed at trial. The case was retried in 2025 [music] but the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the third-degree rape charge related to Jessica's [music] accusations. Per NBC News, the jury foreperson told the judge he was unwilling to return to deliberations [music] amid reported tensions. The jury did find Weinstein guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first degree related to the 2006 alleged assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley while finding him not guilty of the same charge related [music] to his alleged assault of Kaya Sokola. Although the retrial didn't resume until spring 2026, Weinstein remained [music] behind bars after being sentenced to 16 years in prison in a separate California case in 2022 for rape, [music] forced oral copulation, and third-degree sexual misconduct. Since the beginning of the Me Too movement in 2017, [music] Harvey, who was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in 2024, has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than 80 women. He has continued to maintain the encounters [music] were consensual and denied any wrongdoing. E! News has reached out to attorneys for Weinstein for comment but has not heard [music] back.
