'Off Campus' Spoiler Cast InterviewsAdded:
Hi guys. I'm so excited to chat with you guys. I actually want to start out with um the word Welssy because when I heard that in the show, I lost it. Fans lost it when they saw it in the trailer. So, Ella, I was curious what your reaction was the first time Belmont said it at you in character.
>> I mean, I heard it lit. I think that was like the first word of the first scene we did together in the Chemistry Reads.
It was just it's a it's such a cute little nickname. I love that. I think it was so exciting to also watch fans hear that being said for the first time on screen was like I've seen so many reaction videos to the the trailer and it's it's been so like it's so crazy like people it's really fun. It's really cute to see.
>> Amazon knows what they're put there.
>> They put the Wy in the first second of the trailer.
>> Boom.
>> Wy >> Uh-huh. I never was like, "Oh my god, my It's been really fun to watch.
>> It's amazing." No, it's so fun to watch.
And Belmont, what was it like for you to say that for the first time, especially since it's such a beloved nickname?
>> It's so fun for like a dude to like give like, you know, calling somebody by their last last name is very like guy to guy type of nickname [ __ ] But like, it's really cute that he calls her Wy.
Um, yeah. I mean, and I mean, not to get too deep, but like we were very specific about when he's calling her Wy and when he's calling her Hannah. So, like it's it's really it's nice in that way as well.
>> Yeah. No, I love it. Diving into what happens in the show and specifically the deal these guys make, I was curious what guidelines and practices were in place for you guys to make sure there was a level of trust on set that was needed, especially when it came to filming like the orgasm deal part of the show.
>> Yeah.
>> I mean, we had such amazing conversations with everybody involved.
We're so close and our showrunner is so incredible and we had amazing intimacy coordinators that you know there's nothing inherently sexy at all about filming a sex scene. So everything's very choreographed and it couldn't have been a more comfortable environment for us to and also it's so character-driven.
All of these are very emotional scenes for the characters in many ways. So it just felt very important to the story that we were telling.
>> Yeah, it's a it's a team effort.
>> Mhm.
>> Nobody's thrilled to be there, you know.
It's >> like Yeah, everybody's on the same team.
Um, and yeah, I mean they ended up, you know, like those days were treated with just as much care as everything else.
Um, and even more so. So, yeah.
>> And Belmont, this is a kind of a random tangentially related question, but with hockey romance really blowing up between this and heated rivalry in the last year, I was curious, what are some rules you think fans should follow and be mindful of when they're visiting the boy aquarium, as it's called on the internet?
>> Oh, um, uh, gez. I mean, hockey is one of the best spectator sports there is.
Like, going to hockey games is so much fun because the game is alive at all times. Like, the puck the puck is always alive. Um, I I can't think of any rules you should follow. Like, drink beer, eat hot dogs, like have fun. That's what I do.
>> I love it. I love that so much. And like I I mentioned, I'm a big book talk girl.
I read a lot of romance books, so I love all the tropes. I was curious what your guys's favorite trope is in in romance.
>> I like a good enemies to lovers. I think that's always >> I think that's my answer, too.
>> Yeah.
>> How fun and exciting.
>> Exactly.
>> Pretend you like me.
>> Is he looking?
>> Nope.
>> He's looking. Now, >> I actually want to ask you about a big change that happens with the handsoff law in the show. Garrett isn't the one responsible for it in the show, but he is in the book. I was curious how you reacted to that change cuz I I loved it.
>> Great. I'm happy to hear you say that. I know like fans love the [ __ ] handsoff law like oh my god and I think like I think it's you know it's because like oh I want a guy to say that nobody else can nobody else can touch me and like that is hot like that that's cool but like for this version of Garrett like I think that would have felt a little out of character and uh specifically controlling and control is um for me and you know for Louisa and the the writer room like a big theme is kind of the kind of crux of of Garrett that he's like just white knuckling life and like trying to maintain control over everything and to uh bleed that control over to Hannah's um life as an individual after the breakup felt wrong.
Um so I I really liked that change too and I'm I'm happy to hear that you did as well.
>> Yeah. Know I was a really big fan of it.
And then one quick last question. The bitch's back moment was just amazing. I was curious what song you guys would use to hype yourself up in a moment like that like Hannah did.
>> Oh that's such a good question. Um, >> I think for me, uh, like I'm a big Remy Wolf fan, so like having Remy Wolf on the show, like I got to attend a Remy Wolf concert at work, which was awesome.
Um, yeah. Yeah. If I got to get going, I I'll I'll put her on. I mean, that that always works for me.
>> I love musicals, so maybe have to be the Hamilton soundtrack.
>> Yeah, you love the Hamilton soundtrack.
>> You love the Hamilton soundtrack.
>> And like when you got to like you got to get up and go, you're like, "Let me listen to the Hamilton." I'm like, "Come on."
>> My shot.
>> Exactly. I was just going to say >> it's good. It's a good one.
>> That's good.
>> Well, awesome. Thank you guys so much for the time. I appreciate it so much.
Genuinely, I love this show. I cannot wait to watch season two.
>> Oh my god, that's great. So good to hear. Thanks.
>> Thank you guys so much.
>> Hi guys. It's so nice to meet you.
>> How you doing?
>> Nice to meet you.
>> I actually wanted to start with since Hockey Romance is so huge right now with off-campus and hated rivalry and all of that. I was curious if there are any rules or guidelines you guys think fans should be following when they go to a hockey game or the boy aquarium as it's been dubbed on social media.
>> Oh man. Rules and guidelines.
>> What Steve? What would you say? Cuz he he's a hockey he's an actual hockey player. He knows.
>> He's telling us the rules and guidelines usually.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, look out for a specific stretching form. Uh it's very popular where you get those hips nice and loose. It's been on the internet to be >> Yeah. Uh, very popular.
>> The butterfly.
>> Yeah, I'd say so.
>> It's the butterfly. Always looking out for that.
>> Also, when you're when you're doing that stretch, it feels spectacular, >> dude. It's a release. It is a release.
>> Last week, you didn't even know her name. Sometimes people sneak up on you.
>> And um, Antonio, when Hannah kisses Garrett, she kisses Dean after that in the book, but she kisses Logan in the show. I was curious how you reacted to that. And why Logan instead of Dean?
>> Well, I think, you know, obviously I loved the scene in the book. I was like, "Oh, that's genius. That's hilarious."
Um, but I think it it is kind of a a brilliant move to make it Logan's like to have her fake kiss Logan and for that to be like, "Oh [ __ ] I'm in." Like I that I felt sparks. I know she didn't, but I felt it. And that it's just the fuel. sad to see the moment go from the book, but >> y >> contextually I think it it helps.
>> It really raises the stakes a lot more your character too. You know, >> it makes it makes sense.
>> That moment afterwards where you're like, >> what was your reaction hilarious >> and when you walk in too, you're like, uh, what's going on?
>> This is tutoring.
>> You look like a little like you're just so confused.
>> Stephen Dean and Alli's book is my favorite book of the series. So, I was excited to see a lot of it in this season. And I was curious how you reacted when that happened and how you kind of reacted to season one, to use a heated rivalry term, Scott and Kipifying Dean and Allie's story a little bit this season.
>> Um, yeah. No, I I also love the score as well. Um, I read it before the we started shooting, so that was great to to know and kind of have that in my mind quite a bit. But yeah, like there's there's so much more too that we're that we're working on right now and and there's so much more that we're going to explore. So, just doing like episode 6 was great because, you know, we really got to see what is in store. So, um yeah, I'm I'm just I'm really excited to >> to get into that more. Yeah.
>> Yeah. No, I'm very excited, too. And then Jaylen, really really quick. I'm also a massive fan of the pit. So, >> while while uh Tucker is doing hockey, are we still going to get to see Matteo on the night shift? Hey, if if I have a shift uh uh during when the next thing is when if I get called into work, I'll be there.
>> Fabulous. Well, awesome. Thank you guys.
So, thank you guys so much for the time.
I sincerely appreciate it so much. I love the show.
>> Hi guys. I'm I'm Riley Etley. I'm from Cinema Blend. Um I am so excited to chat with you guys. I loved the show.
>> Yeah. Thank you.
>> Me and my co-workers who love these books are also big book talk girls and we love the tropes that come with this kind of romance. I was curious what your guys' favorite and least favorite tropes in romance are.
>> Oh, enemies to lover.
>> I was going to say enemies to lovers is my favorite.
>> Main favorite.
>> Wow.
>> Wow.
>> Look at look at us.
>> Love that for you guys. And then considering I mean this is a big romance show. I was curious what kind of guidelines and practices were in place for you guys to make sure that like the level of trust was there when you were filming these big intimate scenes, especially since there's quite a few of them in the show. Yeah, I think every well every single scene we had an inter music coordinator and um for a lot of mine we we had rehearsals for it and blocking and so by the end of it it's just like a dance essentially but everyone I like the my main thing is like everyone just needs to feel safe in those sort of scenes and I think everyone felt pretty good in all of them and yeah I think you can see that in in the final product as well. Yeah. And we're also we were so close uh you know we became really good friends and so I think we all trusted each other and we're super comfortable with each other like as friends and so that I think that makes stuff like that a lot easier.
>> Yeah 100%.
>> Yeah.
>> Watch the player of the pocky.
>> What the hell does that mean?
>> It means trust me.
>> And Josh I was curious how Justin like really feels about Garrett and Hannah's relationship especially since we're in their heads all the time but not really his.
>> Yeah. I think I don't know. I feel like if the way that I think it would be natural to feel if you start to fall for someone and then you feel like they're falling for you and then they go start going a different path. He's like obviously quite heartbroken in that. But I think he um tries to psych himself up in a way being like oh we can just be friends and can watch on the sideline but I guess um he couldn't do that and I guess there the yearning kicks in >> well and true >> as if it wasn't there before.
>> Just bring back yearning.
>> Yes. Exactly. and Ma, a major major major spoiler for Ally and Ally and Dean's relationship because so much of their book is actually covered in this season. I was curious how you reacted when you learned that news and like what long term is the plan for for them as we go forward into season 2?
>> Yeah, so I knew that uh they were kind of pulling Alli and Dean storyline ahead a little bit uh before the original audition. Uh, so that I knew it going in, but getting to read the scripts and seeing how they were kind of going to integrate that, it made a lot of sense to me because, you know, Ally and Hannah are besties and their stories are really interconnected. And so, um, I think kind of doing things that way gave us a lot of ability to like explore more so what's going through Alli's head, you know, during this whole secret romance that they're having. Uh, yeah. And Josh, this is a very random question, but we are big book talk girls. As I said, we love romanty now that you've done a book talk thing. Are you interested in diving into romant?
>> Look, I think um yeah, book talk's a fun place to be and I'm on social media, so I've seen some stuff. Yeah, I think if the stories there and and I I resonate with it, then I'm open to doing things >> in general.
>> Love it. Well, awesome. Thank you guys so much for the time. Genuinely, I I loved this show. I can't wait for the next season. So, thank you for taking the time to chat with me. I appreciate it.
>> Thank you.
>> Thank you.
Now you can blush.
