The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias where people overestimate their own intelligence and knowledge about subjects outside their expertise, leading them to believe they are smarter than they actually are; this phenomenon, combined with social media echo chambers that reinforce existing beliefs, makes people less likely to admit when they are wrong, even in everyday conversations.

Neil deGrasse Tyson, Dunning Kruger Effect & Fake Expertise Explained #shortsAdded:
I had a conversation with somebody a couple of weeks ago about the Dunning-Kruger effect. You guys familiar with the Dunning-Kruger effect?
So, Dunning-Kruger is basically uh Let's say you're Neil deGrasse Tyson, and we know that Neil deGrasse Tyson is a physicist and he's smart. Well, Neil deGrasse Tyson sometimes makes comments about things that are not in his field.
But, people believe everything that he's saying because he's Neil deGrasse Tyson.
So, if he's smart about uh you know, how many planets surround Jupiter, that means that he's also smart about how many times the Lakers won an NBA championship. You know what I mean? So, it's basically like uh people think that they're smarter than they actually are about certain subjects uh just because they can articulate things in a certain way. And I think that what that has led to is that people don't admit that they're wrong about anything anymore.
Uh and and largely because of uh social media has kind of given everybody a platform to be right, because you can find people in an echo chamber easily via social media. Mhm. And uh there's also like, you know, in your everyday life, like let's say you're having a conversation with uh a uh a girlfriend or a boyfriend, and you know, you know, I mean, you've had these conversations with people and stuff, and then they're never wrong in in in in the uh situation. And then and then you're basically like uh even when you point out that they're wrong, they're still not wrong, right? So, Yeah.
Do you mean talking to women?
I said girlfriend or boyfriend.
>> [laughter] >> So, the guy must be is gay. He's he's he's female presenting is what you're saying. Okay.
So, you're trying to say that only women are wrong and and that men are right all the time, huh? No, what I'm saying is most of the time when you're talking to somebody who says that they're never wrong, it's a woman.
That's That's >> That's the That That That That you explained that in the Dunning-Kruger effect way there with some pushplaypods.com [music]
