[00:00:11]Probability probability. A question can come like this or a question can come like this. So, I want you to get and understand me very well and clearly. So, I need your total attention.

[00:01:37]When you see this kind of a question, the way it is, have you seen? You are being given the probabilities of the people or things being mentioned and you are told to find the probability. So, meaning that there is no need of us finding what we get to call a tree diagram. There is no need for that. I guess we are following each other.

[00:02:04]For us to answer this question, we are told to find the probability of selecting who? Mwambi. So, the probability of selecting Mwambi is 9/10.

[00:02:16]Now, what is the probability of not selecting Mwambi? So, the probability of selecting Mwambi is this, then what is the probability of not selecting? So, the probability of what? Not. So, I'm going to say the probability of not selecting. So, not selecting. Not selecting who? Mwambi. The probability of not selecting Mwambi. What do we do?

[00:02:47]We know when you are given one probability and you are told to find the other probability, we just subtract from one. So, we say 1 9 over 10.

[00:03:02]What is the answer? 1/10. So, the answer is 1 over 10. This is the probability of not. So, not selecting. This is the probability of not selecting Mwambi.

[00:03:19]Have you seen? The probability of not selecting Mwambi is 9/10.

[00:03:25]Now, the probability of selecting Mutola is 7/8.

[00:03:32]What is the probability of not selecting Mutola? So, I'm writing these things and these are the same things that are going to help us now answer this question. So, not selecting. Not what? Not selecting Mutola. What is the probability of not selecting Mutola? We get the probability of selecting Mutola, which is 7/8. We subtract it from one because we know that if I tell you to say that the probability of going to school tomorrow is 3/5, what is the probability of not going to school tomorrow? You're going to say 1 - the given probability. This is what I'm doing even here. So, I say 1 7 over 8. What is the answer? 1/8. We are getting 1/8 as the answer. So, 1 over 8. After we do this, this question now we've just dissolved it like this.

[00:05:34]You say plus. Here now, we are going to select Mwambi. The probability of selecting Mwambi is 9/10 times the probability of not selecting the other person because the question is saying only one of them is selected.

You get your calculator, work out this. You are done. Very simple. Have you seen? So, the key thing is once you are given the probabilities of selecting them, we find the probability of not selecting them.

[00:07:11]The answer I'm getting is 1 over 5. This is the answer. You are done. So, this is the probability of selecting only one of them. So, when you are the two of you, then you are told to say find the probability of selecting only one of you. If I select you, I get the probability of not selecting the other one. Plus C. I select the other guy times the probability of selecting you. Have you seen? So, this is what is happening here. I guess you are able to see the logic here. Then we go to this one. NONE OF THEM IS SELECTED. You just get the probability of not selecting uh none of them. So, we go to this one. The probability of not selecting. None of them is selected. So, the probability of not getting any of them which is just what? We just this one. 1 over 10 times 1 over 8. The answer is what? 1 over 80 as the answer. This is the answer you're going to get.

[00:08:23]So, selecting only one of them. This is where now we get to multiply the prob- prob- the probability of not selecting the other one. But here, where we are told that none of them is selected.

[00:08:39]Meaning the probability of not selecting Mwambi is here direct. The probability of who? Not selecting Mutola is here direct. So, this is how you answer a question like this.
