High-performance turbocharged engines require careful tuning to balance power output with engine longevity, as excessive torque and timing advance can cause internal component failure; custom tuners provide better monitoring and optimization compared to off-the-shelf solutions, allowing for precise adjustments to boost levels and timing advance across different RPM ranges to maximize performance while protecting the engine.

FAST 10.09 1/4 mile baby Lambo - AUDI RS3 STAGE 3追加:
Heat.
Heat.
So, we're here today with something quite nice. This is the owner, Justin.
>> Hello. Hello. Hello.
>> How's it going, man?
>> Good. Pretty good. Nice day.
>> So, we're going to get right into it.
Talk to us about this little RS3. Uh, well, it's got the full bolt-on stage 3 IMS750HS with the turbo inlet, IRA intercooler, IRA intake, the Mabotech intercooler, uh, Unatronic dog bone, I got, uh, downpipe parcto 3 and 12 in.
>> So, this would be considered like a stage three car, right?
>> Yep. Full bolt-on stage three. Yep.
>> And how long have you had the car?
>> 5 years.
>> Five years. And I think um, well, I'll I'll tell the viewers. I met you at the track in Napville. It's our local NH track.
>> There's very uh little street cars that actually are able to hit 10 seconds. So obviously we started talking then and uh I think back in the days you were it was more off the shelf sort of like yeah intercooler turbo inlet intake downpipe.
>> And how long have you been with uh Lambotech?
>> A year. A year. This is my second summer.
>> You just So you just decided to take it to the next level.
>> Yeah. Well, I wasn't really uh I wanted to try a custom tune. I wanted to try something different than others.
Everyone goes with basic Matronic and so I go with Mayabbo Mabotech and I'm very satisfied.
>> Did you ever take the car on a on a on the dyno?
>> No, not yet.
>> But how much do you guesstimate the power it makes?
>> Uh on 94 I would think uh 6 650 700.
So guys, remember it's not all about HP, but they are pretty lightweight in terms of cars compared to what they are. Maybe Justin and in your case uh pop the hood just so that I could show the >> the folks all your beautiful parts.
So, we have the somewhat legendary uh Dazza.
>> Yeah. 2.5 L Dazza. Got a massive intake.
Is that custom or >> the intake?
>> Yeah.
>> No, I sells it on their website. Yep.
>> How big is it?
>> 5 in.
>> Okay. I see aftermarket parts here. So, maybe do a little roundup of uh the engine.
>> Yeah. So, like we said, the 5- in IRA intake. We've got the DSG uh breather catch can if you want. Uh Unatronic turbo inlet 4 in.
Uh yeah, the intercooler uh the IMS 750 HS hybrid turbo that I sells.
>> And you did something uh custom on the uh >> Yeah. Well, these cars have a huge crash bar in the front. So, I did a skinny uh well, a crash bar delete and just put a skinny crash bar, which helps a ton with the IETS >> cuz without that, like I imagine that after single pull.
>> Yeah, the temps are right in the ceiling.
>> So, so folks, it's something that uh that is not necessarily common, but I've seen elsewhere at the track, uh they tend to delete the the crash bar, which is pretty massive. And like Justin did here, it's a custom sort of like skinnier much more skinnier crash bar to allow actual air to hit the intercooler fins. Yep. Helps a ton. It's a small mod. That helps a lot.
>> Exhaust wise. Did you change something on the car?
>> No. Stock exhaust. Just a three and a half park auto downpipe.
>> Okay. Well, she sounded pretty nice.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Here. I'll just do the roundabout. And cosmetic wise, did you do anything to the car?
>> No. H&R springs with lightweight 18-in wheels.
I like the the look stock. So, kept everything the most stock as I could.
>> Well, it's a total sleeper in the sense.
Well, I don't know if you can call an RS3 Well, yeah, it is. I think for the for the general public, I think it's a sleeper car, but for car guys, uh >> Yeah. Well, it looks just like a A3 or S3 normally.
>> But for car guys, it's pretty rare to uh to see an RS3 that's not modded, except maybe not to the level of this one.
>> And Justin, like what do you like the most about the the car?
>> Oh, the Daza.
>> The Daza.
>> Easy question. The sounds it makes. I love the sound of a Dazza. It just that's perfect. It's harmony. Oh, it is a baby. Uh, they call it the baby Lambo there.
>> Yeah, exactly. I that's what I love the most.
>> And do you have any future plans for the car? You're pretty >> Oh, if I keep pushing it like this with my tuner, I'm going to have to build the engine eventually cuz uh I'm still on a stock engine, so we're limited about 550 600 lb of torque.
>> And what does um like building the engine like? Well, for for this setup, what what would it uh entail?
>> Uh it's mostly well the most big part is the rods. Most the biggest part is the rods. These rods don't take much over 550.
>> Is it like other cars, but uh especially at this power level? Like I guess with the difference and I guess the advantage of of doing business with like a custom tuner is like you know a lot of offtheshelf stuff, the torque is really down low cuz guys just want to accelerate on the street. But at these power levels, the torque down low is actually what kills your engine there.
>> Yeah, exactly. It's just that with this this custom tune compared like a unitronic or anything, well, we can monitor more precisely day by day the torque and when the boost kicks in and everything, it's a lot more uh I would think it's a lot more safe cuz I monitor everything.
>> It's not only the torque, but like maybe not on on this platform necessarily in general. Something anything that's turbo, I see I've seen pretty bad tuners in the past. Timing advance is as is as much as at at 4,000 RPM as it is high higher up in the res. And I think that's what kills the engine more than, you know, >> so >> 100%.
>> As as good as they are, I think uh I think the the quality of the tuning obviously makes a difference. And >> yes, and there's not a lot of tuners for these Daza engines. There's there's not very common. I'm not sure why, but there's not a lot of tuners.
>> And uh what uh like you you like to race, you still go to the track a lot.
Like what what was your best time like on the car?
>> I don't do uh prep. I only do no prep cuz I like the the like the street car feeling. I managed at 10:09 at 142 and so far >> that was on pump fuel.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> No uh no ethanol or you had >> a little bit of ethanol. Yeah. Cuz or else it just cuts back timing. So yeah, I put like I think I'm E25 right now.
Just a tiny bit.
>> And what prevents you in the current setup from going like more like E60 E85.
>> I could, but I guess I would just be playing with fire.
>> I I'm pretty comfortable with what I'm running right now and I'm happy. My tuner's happy. So we'll keep it like that. Okay. Well, maybe I'll just uh I'll still show the folks uh the interior of the car.
>> It's not clean clean.
>> It's not the cleanest. You don't take it out often, do you?
>> No. No.
>> Okay. Well, folks, let's go inside.
So, as you can see, these cars have a a digital cockpit from uh from the factory. And it's let's call it pretty basic as a interior.
>> Very basic. Like no touchcreen, no manual, no automatic seats.
>> Yeah. Everything's manual for >> per personally. People make a big deal about I don't care there, but a lot of people make a big deal about the thing.
>> Yeah. Well, it's a race car. I don't use it for daily, so I don't mind.
>> So, you know, it is based off the uh A3 chassis, guys. So, it's not the biggest car, but that's what helps with the power. It's It's light on its feet, but it's still on a inside. I mean, like uh the quality of the lever, stuff like that. Knock and tear on the shift knob.
So, when we we'll take better angles later, but we've got the diamond stitch bucket seats here >> and the baby seat in the back. So, you can see Justin baby logo in the back.
Baby on board >> just to make it more sleeper than it is.
>> Oh, she's quite nice. Especially in this color.
>> And brake brakes. Are you stock brakes?
>> No, no, no. The stock brakes couldn't can't handle the braking. I do I do a lot of half mile racing and uh the stock brakes didn't last too long at like 280 290 km an hour. So, >> what's your uh braking setup there?
>> Uh I got the stainless uh lines with um Mo tools uh oil 4 I believe with uh Hawk 5.0 pads and gyro disc lightweight rotors.
>> And are these the stock calipers?
>> Yeah, that's the stock calipers. Yeah.
>> Four pistons.
>> Yep. if I'm not mistaken. Uh, >> and the tire wires always on the bus.
>> Yeah, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Not the best, but we don't got a lot of options in 245 40 18.
>> Do they still uh do they still grip on the street? You're able to make them?
>> No. No.
>> Sometimes in second gear it pulls it.
>> What do uh what do the you know those big setups we we tend to see though the monster setup like uh your you have a lot of parts on them. What do you put like semi slicks or >> Yeah. Well, they put the small brake kit from the Audi A3.
>> Okay.
>> So, they can put 16-in wheels.
>> I don't want to go there, though. I like the stock brake looks.
>> Okay. Yeah. And it's I I imagine like No, but maybe not in your case cuz it seems more like a weekend car, but if you daily drive the car, you're not going to put A3 brakes on.
>> No. Never. Never. And like I said, I do half mile racing, so I don't think A3 brakes would like the the braking at 290.
>> Yeah. Yeah. For sure. Well, okay. Well, I think it's a it's a nice little overview of the car. How about we go for a little spin and >> Yeah, for sure.
>> So, about you show the viewers what this uh this little thing could do.
>> Yep.
>> So, you were saying your your um transmission tuner, your TCU tuner is TVS.
>> Yes. I used to be in Unatronic and I changed to TVS cuz um Unatronic second to third wouldn't shift would never shift. I think it's because of my uh tire size since I went smaller than OEM.
So uh >> why'd you go smaller?
>> Smaller wheels, lightweight. Oh, less rotational mass.
>> Gotcha. I thought you went tire with >> Well, folks, we're uh we're just driving calmly normally for now. Just trying to get out of town. It's uh it's a bit busy in this area and we just crossed the 50 old cars. So, >> yep, >> it's the start of the summer here in Montreal, Canada. So, uh cops are are starting their season as well. It's fresh and everything. And anyways, you don't take you don't really take this car a lot, do you?
>> No, never.
>> Like your your weekend driver type of thing.
>> 15,000 km in 5 years. And the first year was like seven. But at least in in those little 15,000 kilometers, a lot of them seem to be uh >> fun times.
>> Yeah. Fun fun kilometers.
>> Smiles per gallon.
>> Yes, 100%.
>> Yep.
>> Right now the valves uh the valve I don't know how accurately we'll capture it on camera cuz we're miked up. But uh right now the valves are open.
>> They're open.
>> So it's not that bad.
>> No, there's no drone. I like it. There's no drone.
>> Yeah, there's a bit of sound but nothing too crazy. And if you close the valves, like, is it that much more quiet?
>> There's no sound.
>> If I put in dynamic.
>> Yeah. Okay. It's a bit louder.
>> Yeah.
>> Under a very light load.
>> I can do a light pull here if you want.
>> Yep. So, here we go.
Holy [ __ ] >> Oh yeah, she um she pulls I know it's hard to capture on camera, but not only does it pull you back in the seat. He he wasn't full throttle on it and uh you could definitely feel the car was uh >> was moving forward.
>> Did you feel second gear? It's >> Yeah, the torque it's almost like Well, it's not the right turn, but it's almost like torque steer.
>> Yep.
>> Um I guess we'll do a bowl like a train.
Um And you weren't you weren't so heavy on the throttle there, too. That's the worst part, eh?
>> Yeah. No, it's the torque.
>> Yeah. Yeah. It's just But >> it's the torque. It's It's very low torque cuz it's stock block. But it pulls all the way to red line, though.
>> Yeah. But that's the thing. Obviously, I'm in the passenger seat, so the sensation is always different than behind the wheel. But I didn't feel that much lag. And it came on pretty quick.
Like I didn't like how where where where would you guesstimate it comes on? Like RPM wise, >> I've never paid attention. I'm not sure.
I'm guessing like uh 42 45 maybe.
>> Okay. [ __ ] >> I'll try it. I don't know. Not sure.
>> And you said again on on the 1/4 mile on pump fuel. So 93 octane your best time was >> Well, yeah. With with with Sorry, with a little bit of ethanol though.
>> Okay. Yeah. But still the car's on pump fuel configuration. Not not flex fuel or anything like >> Yeah, it's flex fuel.
>> Flex fuel.
>> Yes. I have a flex fuel tune. I was on E25.
I did 1009 at 141 >> or 142. I'll have to double check that.
And on pump fuel, I went I'm going to have to look. I can send you the draggies after if you want.
>> Yeah, I'll put them I'll link them up in the video for sure. So, a 10.02 car.
>> Yeah.
>> On pump fuel.
>> And where'd you get the the turbo?
Directly from uh IROS?
>> No, I bought it through Unatronic and they gave me money back for my stock turbo. So, I thought it was a good deal.
>> How was the install? Was it a pretty bolt-on solution or >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's really straightforward and I sends the gaskets and everything. So, you replace everything as you go. So, it's really fun.
>> Okay. Gotcha.
>> But Yep.
>> So, we're we're doing a launch control here. I I'll try to hold the camera for my life.
Holy [ __ ] There was smoke coming back in the It would not hook. First gear, second gear. Second gear, no hooking.
>> Yeah. Felt good though. Felt good. It's probably like a 29 3 0 with >> Oh, the first two gears there. Even though Yeah, the spin but but still like I still forget like what's >> it's going.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> That was fun.
>> Yeah. that though that launch control for street took a lot of revisions. I wanted I knew what I wanted and I got what I wanted but you know it's not like a single revision sign kind of a tune.
We tried less boost, more timing, less timing, more boost.
>> We tried a lot of combos and uh this one seems to be working the best.
>> Do you like that process of uh you know fine tuning and optimizing the car?
>> You you have to like that >> cuz that's that tuning you have to like that.
>> That's my favorite part personally. If I don't have that, I tend to get rid of the car right away because it's Yeah, >> it's boring. Gets boring after a while.
>> Exactly. If you have something I mean, look, we're not knocking down. I have nothing against like, you know, >> uh I'm supposed to have one later this year on the channel on Aston Martin Valhalla. It's really nice. It's a thousand something. It's a crazy car and I didn't know it was worth that much, but >> what are you going to do on that thing?
It's almost uh even I mean >> even for James Bond, I think it's too much.
>> Yeah.
>> I'm not sure. Did What kind of people tune those cars though? Is it the all the dino shops?
>> They must need a special kind of software to tune those.
>> Well, apparently the car can do 9 seconds stock if you're driving it correctly. So, >> here we go.
The reason why we got Garrett will show he seems to do just those little short bursts is that folks it goes and the by the time we know it the the speed is you're already up there at cruising speed before you even know it. So >> yeah, but we're we're respecting the speed limits.
>> Exactly. Exactly.
>> Mexico stuff.
That's a fun car for the price these go these go for nowadays. Like just a stage 2 E85. I'd have so much fun with that.
>> What What What does a stage 285? Cuz these guys obviously depends on the driver. They're all over the place. But like let's say uh decent tires, decent driver, like mid10s.
>> I ran at Nierville with two hosers in the front 18 in. I ran 1034 a 134.
>> There you go.
>> Yeah.
>> There you go. But in the street, it's way too much way too much torque for the streets. So, it's not it's like maybe 107, 106 in the street at best because it spins so hard. So, torquy stock turbo.
>> So, just that was quite exhilarating. I don't think you went a lot. Obviously, I think most people understand that the the car is configured uh trackwise. You can have a lot of fun on the street, but >> just the the power, the way it was felt, and you like we said, you weren't all out. I could just imagine what it is when you go full uh >> Yeah. full on.
>> Yeah, that's why I like half mile racing. Empty fifth gear.
>> No, but seriously, like just this type of power, it's kind of like, you know, a couple years ago you saw it there when we hit 9 seconds with a V9 at stage 35 at the end got a break right away. Like especially at Napier Vor the NH, the track is fine, but at the end there's not a lot of space, right? So, >> you know, >> Yep.
>> when when you start about Well, maybe not there, I'm exaggerating, but when you start you start talking about installing parachutes on street cars.
>> Yeah. Uh >> not there yet. Well, very nice car. Very fast. And the way the power comes on, it's uh very fun.
>> Very linear.
>> Yeah, linear. No, I didn't. Exactly. I didn't feel like a surge of uh like a brand boost all over the place there.
Yeah.
>> Very linear. I'm used to other cars making more tors more torque and uh like a G80 M3. Yeah. Like a simple downpipe B50. That's torquy down low. It's crazy.
And it's not the same power band at all.
>> But when it comes on like it it stays on there, folks. you're you're you're stuck in the back of in the back of the seat.
So, uh well, I'll link your uh your social media if you want in the in the video description. So, Justin, >> thanks for doing this, man. My pleasure.
It was a pleasure having you on and uh well, have fun uh racing uh this summer on uh on track.
>> Yep. Thank you.
