[00:00:00]They didn't build the border to keep us out, they built it to keep what they stole. In 1848, the US forced Mexico to sign the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. It ended the war, but it also meant Mexico lost more than 55% of its land, including California, Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Texas.

[00:00:22]But here's where it gets strategic. The US chose the Rio Grande, not the original Nueces River, as the new boundary.

[00:00:34]Overnight, tens of thousands of Mexicans became Americans without moving an inch.

[00:00:47]The US kept shifting the river itself, redrawing it when it suited their interests. They built dams like Elephant Butte. They diverted water from the Rio Conchos. Today, American farmers upstream still drain water Mexico has legal rights to. They call it water management, but what do you call it when someone redraws a line in water and then pretends it never moved? They didn't just steal the land, they stole the river. And they're still stealing it.
