[00:00:02]They lived in long houses of wood and turf with a central hearth. Family, servants, and some livestock shared one roof. Clothing was made from wool and linen. Furs provided warmth in winter.

[00:00:13]They ate barley bread, porridge, dried fish, salted meat, dairy, and root vegetables. Onions and garlic were popular. Rare imported spices were sometimes available. For feasts, they roasted meat and drank meat or weak beer. For journeys, they took hard tac and dried fish. Supplies were prepared in advance, dried, smoked, and salted.
