Social awkwardness and perceived 'weirdness' stem from three main factors: unpredictable body language and nonverbal cues (such as misaligned gestures or inappropriate laughter), which trigger the brain's threat response; the uncanny valley effect, where extreme physical modifications make people appear nearly human but unsettling; and self-awareness, where acknowledging one's awkwardness signals understanding of social norms, while acting as if weird behavior is normal suggests a lack of social understanding.

The Science Of Weird People Finally ExplainedAdded:
As a kid, he developed a condition named echolalia, meaning that he used to repeat certain phrases to himself two or three times in a row. Then he became obsessed with compasses, started to cause problems at school, [music] and even started a no wearing socks rule as a teenager.
Sometimes you got to put your foot down.
Get it.
All right, that's pretty good. The science behind being a weirdo by the channel Zoomology.
Let's get it popping. If you take 100 people and ask them to imagine a weirdo, 95.4% of them will imagine a man.
Yeah, and they're going to imagine an unattractive man.
Like without a doubt. It's like the meme.
Uh flirting versus harassment meme.
Yeah, like this.
Wait, let's do that one.
Wait, no. That one sucks, too. Flirting versus harassment. That dress looks sexy on you, but it's the handsome guy flirting. Same guy says or different guy, ugly, bloated, old, says the same thing, harassment.
>> [laughter] >> But of course, attractive guys can be really [ __ ] weird, too. So, why do we think that? Maybe it's like there's a correlation there. But what actually makes someone creepy? To make sure you are not perceived as a weirdo, I've analyzed three of the weirdest figures of all time.
>> [laughter] [gasps] >> Oh god, Albert Einstein, Michael Jackson, and Mark Zuckerberg.
I I feel like they're doing Mark Zuckerberg Zuckerberg a little dirty there. Like I kind of get the other two.
Albert Einstein, he's like one of those wacky geniuses.
We don't even need to explain Michael Jackson. He's just like Mark's just like a nerd. Pretty much just an antisocial nerd. That's it. But I got you.
>> Case one, Mark Zuckerberg. What? He says that that tone is so funny. Let's analyze this viral clip with Mark and Theo Von. Do you drink coffee, man, or no?
Nah.
Really? Yeah.
It's the one word answer.
I mean, you've had you've had it. I have. Um sometimes on vacation I'll drink it recreationally. It's like every once in a while.
You see the prime factor that makes Mark seem weird in this video. At least he laughed at the end of it. He's like Like he was self-aware that he's being awkward. So, it's his unusual nonverbal behavior. He nods no while saying yes.
He laughs when there's nothing to laugh about, and he keeps his hands tense No, he's laughing cuz he he he recognizes it was awkward. So, it's kind of like shining a spotlight on it and realizing like, "Oh, [ __ ] That was uh I'm an awkward motherfucker." during a chill conversation. The body language misalignment makes you look unpredictable. And as proven in this 2016 study, unpredictability is seen as creepy by the human brain. It's one thing to see your friend laughing heavily after a joke, and it's another to see a stranger do that while approaching you.
That's true, the unpredictability of how people sit and stuff. That's why I always recommend people to start learning like expansive body language, you know, instead of If I was in like Mark Zuckerberg here, like you guys really don't want to come off as creepy to girls especially. Like you want to get a girlfriend someday, don't you? But instead if I said the same thing, "Start learning expansive body language, guys. Like you don't want to come off as creepy. You want to get a girlfriend one day, don't you?"
Completely different. It shows comfort, you know, taking up space. It shows that you don't feel like you need to be on high alert and protective in in a certain setting. So, if you can adopt more laid-back, open, you know, exposing your vulnerable areas such as like your internal organs, this is what the science goes back to, then it actually makes you mog. You don't know what's really happening in their head. Now, another thing that made that interaction weird was the awkward silence. Think about it. In that scene, Theo Vaughn gave Mark three hints to open up.
>> coffee, man, or no? Really? I mean, you've you've had it.
>> But, what Mark experienced is called the conversation paradox. Normally, it's almost impossible to experience awkward silence when you talk to a friend or a family member. Why? Because your brain will just spit out everything you think.
But, when you're nervous, you're Yeah, it's cuz there's no pressure. You don't feel the need to impress them, right? You don't You don't feel the need to come off a certain type of way cuz you are already aware that they know who you are in and out pretty much. So, if there is a moment where you're kind of off your game, so to speak, they're not going to hold it against you because they already have a lot of data, you know, compiled showing who you really are. And you know that, so you don't feel the need to like try to be completely congruent 100% of the time.
Your brain will stop you from sharing more details because it thinks the other person isn't interested. All that awkward silence could have been avoided if Mark would have just expressed how he felt. Yeah, so it's like when you're with a new person, though, this is the initial data. This is the initial data that that they're compiling. So, if there is awkward moments or moments where you're stuttering or telling a story that's kind of lame that they don't really care about, that is like the avatar that they're building for you, and you know that. So, you feel that pressure not to start off this new avatar they're building with weirdness.
Do you drink coffee, man, or no?
Sometimes on vacation, I'll drink it recreationally. It's like every once in a while. Yet, later in the interview, when this happened, Mark suddenly snapped and started to behave like a normal dude again. Sometimes, acting weird appears when you get stuck in your own head. So, instead of over-focusing on yourself, try to simply just listen to the other person. Now, this Mark right here is actually the cool and improved version of the OG that we all recognize. But, why was he considered weird in the first place? I like Mark. I think he's a cool dude.
He He provides insane value to us through Facebook, through Instagram, and >> [snorts] >> you know, various other platforms and whatnot. So, I'm I'm team Mark. Besides unusual body language and unpredictability, creepiness can also be associated with weird occupations and hobbies. The old Mark Clown owner? Yes. Taxidermist? Yes.
Sex shop [laughter] owner?
Yeah, I was I was fully prepared to come and try to defend these people, but that's pretty [ __ ] creepy.
Meteorologist, farmer.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, yeah. I Yeah, I definitely cannot argue with those top three.
and hobbies. The old Mark looked like he was only interested in business and stealing your data. Yeah, that's so true. When you When you seem like you're you only care about one thing, whether it's your job, a hobby, a person, it's creepy cuz it's it's sociopathic.
Like that's pretty textbook sociopathic uh behavior. So, I know guys who you know, could be super cool guys, but they're like so locked in on like macros and and the exact amount of reps. Like, "No, I can't come out and have a beer with you. Like, that'll mix up mess up my carbohydrates for the day, you know?"
It's like, "Dude, you're [ __ ] weirdo." Like, Never mind. New Mark does surf, jujitsu, and he's even a bit more interested in his social appearance. Plus, the pale skin, thin eyebrows, and short hair made him look like a robot. Very low facial contrast makes it hard for us to read his emotions. And when you can't read someone's emotions, you can't predict their reactions. But, it's better to talk more about looks in case two, Michael Jackson. Mike's only mistake is that he tried to aim beyond perfection.
Yet, human perfection can't be reached by a surgeries. You see, in 2011, it was proven that our brains see average facial features as more attractive.
Counterintuitive, right? Well, not really. You see, over the centuries, our brains had to develop a method to identify which individuals were infected with viruses, bacteria, and parasites in order to keep our distance from them.
Now, what most of these infections have in common is that they make people look sick and even modify some of their facial features. That's why when our brains see a person like Michael with unusually inexpressive eyes, very pale skin, weird colored mouth, and very hollow cheeks, it automatically thinks that he is sick.
Yeah, and the nose, man. Like, the tiny little nostrils, the pointy tip, the the thinness of it.
Then he's got the eyeliner, the red lips.
What a [ __ ] show.
>> And we should keep our distance from him, even though our conscious mind knows that this is not the case. Now, up to a point, these modifications can be just Why couldn't he just stayed here?
Like, he was a good-looking guy, you know.
Normal.
Even good-looking, some would say.
This is a monstrosity. What the [ __ ] >> seen as weird or ugly, but when they reach a point where the face doesn't look fully human anymore, it taps into a psychological phenomenon called the uncanny valley effect. Basically, we fear things that look nearly human more than stuff that are clearly not human.
Yeah, that's true.
Yeah, so if the point here is if you guys are going to get work done, got to make yourself look like What is this? Ollie or something? What's this dude's name? I don't know. I can't think of it. I don't know what that thing's called again. But, uh yeah, you got to you got to ask for that.
Now, unfortunately for the King of Pop, he inflicted these changes via surgeries. Some say because of his childhood trauma, but the average human, well, if you take a peek at the studies, you'll see that most of the physical aspects that make you look weird or creepy are linked to poor personal hygiene and poor general health.
Well, that's good news cuz those are things that you can actually address and take care of and and improve on.
>> So, they can be fixed by simply taking more care of yourself. Case three, Albert Einstein, the living embodiment of a mad scientist, but Einstein's weirdness didn't start here. It started here. When he was a kid, his parents, Herman and Pauline, understood that their Hey, yo. Hey, yo, big Herm.
Herman >> child is not quite like the others. He avoided the other kids, always wanted to play alone, and never spoke a full sentence up until the age of 3 to 4 years old. Now, the story goes that his first sentence surprisingly came at a dinner table. "The soup is too hot." His parents were shocked.
Why is that [laughter] Why is that so surprising?
I mean, everybody's first sentence was somewhere.
Right?
>> And even asked why he never said anything before. "Up to now, everything has been just fine. There No way. Did he actually say that?
Albert Einstein's first words.
According to family lore, Albert Einstein's first words were, "Yes, but where are its wheels?"
He spoke these words at about 2 and 1/2 years old when his little sister was born because he was a famous late talker, his parents had let him expect a new toy. Instead, his first spoken sentence famously verbalized his disappointment.
Hmm.
Who's capping?
Who's capping?
Oh, this one says his first words were the soup's too hot.
I don't know.
Someone's lying right here. Their hearts were relieved. Their kid was finally just like the others. They could not be more wrong. As a kid, he developed a condition named echolalia, meaning that he used to repeat certain phrases to himself two or three times in a row.
Then he became obsessed with compasses, started to cause problems at school, and even started a no wearing socks rule as a teenager.
Sometimes you got to put your foot down.
Get it?
All right, that's pretty good. All of his life, Albert tried to fit in. Yet, everyone saw him as a weirdo. So, as a young adult, he changed his approach. He abandoned these social norms completely, started to grow messy hair, and completely accepted his weirdness. In a world full of classy scientists, he chose to be the weird with How did young Albert Einstein look?
Let's check him out.
Was he always weird? He didn't look that weird.
He was like a Well, well, all right. [laughter] All right, baby.
Yeah, he was definitely subhuman. I was going to say he looked kind of, you know, low-tier normie, maybe normie, but this is definitely a sub five. Sorry, bro.
Maybe in the next life. pretty one and ended up being loved for that. So loved that during his second marriage, Einstein had to gather the patience to deal with physics, his lovely wife, and seven other mistresses on the sideline.
>> Lovely.
>> Now, Hey, my dog.
Einstein's successful transformation can be explained by a 2011 study, which basically says, "If you do something weird, but you show embarrassment or admit what you did was weird, people see that you understand social norms. That self-awareness makes you appear more prosocial and trustworthy. On the other hand, if you do something weird and act as if it's totally normal or pretend nothing happened, it suggests you don't understand social norms, which Yeah, it's like autistic people.
>> can make you seem weird. Now, the quickest way to understand social norms within a group is to learn how to read people using science.
Yeah, so my best advice I think I could give to not come off as creepy is to to literally just not think of any situation as awkward.
Like things are only awkward if you think it's awkward. And other than that, just you can you can kind of literally just do whatever you want. Like during conversation and stuff, you know, I just you know, pick up this.
Like they'll be like jerking off or something, but you know, you can you can just do stuff and not even like and just pretend that it's completely normal. It's like when guys go up and approach a girl, it's awkward because they have a mindset like I'm not supposed to be here doing this right now. I am creepy. And then it comes off as creepy cuz it seems uncalibrated. But if you go up there like I'm just a man having an adult conversation with a woman. This is totally normal. This is how relationships start. I'm supposed to be here right now doing this. Then it'll and you actually believe it, it'll come off that way. Then she will feel that and she will accept it and you will absorb her into your framing and then you just maintain that framing and then bada bing bada boom, get the number, close, the kids, the dog, cat, white picket fence, happily ever after. That's it. So, that's it, guys. Hope you guys enjoyed. If you did, please subscribe and then watch this video next cuz it's it's my favorite one I've done all month. I think you're going to like it, too. I'll see you there.
