Westernmost Point of Continental US (Cape Alava, Olympic National Park)Hinzugefügt:
Plan, prepare, protect.
Well, bone.
So, I'm out of that. camped right on the lake. This is a trail I'm doing tomorrow.
Another large well bone.
I'm back where I was last night. I'm going to take this trail out to the westernmost point in the US.
Here we go. Cape Oliver, 3.1 miles.
The size of those mushrooms.
Here's some more.
This thing's got to be at least 8 in tall.
There's some more cool mushrooms.
I wasn't expecting there to be so much boardwalk on this. Oh, hello. Slippery.
And as I experienced a minute ago, it can be slippery.
That was a long stretch of boardwalk.
I'm so glad to be back on the ground.
For as remote as this trail is, they put a lot of work into it.
probably at least a mile and a half into this trail and I've not bumped into a single person.
This boardwalk gets some sun, so it's not slippery at all.
It's the first meadow I've seen on this hike. And I just passed my first human.
So, two miles in, first sign of a person.
There's been lots of rotted boards on the Okay. So, you definitely have to watch every step.
I can see the ocean through the trees.
So, we're just past low tide, probably by an hour. See if we can find anything.
Those are the Flattery Rocks National Wildlife Refuge.
Little more left on this trail to get to the westernmost point of the continental US.
Check out the location of this sweet little campsite.
Just a little over three miles to hike in.
Another campsite right here.
I finally ran into two more people who were sitting down enjoying the view. I haven't run out of the trail yet. So, I'm going to keep going. According to the map, I've left the park service land and now on reservation land. And this definitely looks like the westernmost point. So, I'm going to call this the end of the trail. I'm going to hike out a little bit right here onto these rocks, take a picture, and call it success.
I am at Cape Oliva. It's the westernmost point in the continental US. So, it's one more of the places I visited. I've done Key West. Southernmost, eastern most is West Quatty Head, northernmost is Northwest Angled.
and I am in Olympic National Park in the state of Washington.
I'm going to go find a spot on the beach to sit down and have a little bit of lunch.
I'm back at the campsite. 8.3 miles and 4hour overall duration from start to finish.
I'm not a big fan of the boardwalks.
They're a lot of slippery boards, some rotted boards, and a lot of loose boards. I'd much rather have my feet planted in the ground. Now, having said that, I'm still going to rate it a five because the hike was overall was fantastic. very few people and you get the reward at the end of being at the westerly most point in the continental US. So, that's pretty cool. And I'm back at the lake.
Time to go get a shower.
