Sen. Jinggoy Estrada detained at the Quezon City Jail over a plunder case arrest warrant...Added:
Slammer time as a result of plunder and ill-gotten wealth [music] wraps is nothing new to Senator Jinggoy Estrada, who's been there, [music] done that three times in as many decades in a row.
In 2001, though not convicted, he went to jail [music] for skimming tens of millions off the top from illegal gambling money. Then again in 2014 [music] for over 100 million 80 pesos in kickbacks from the PDAF [music] scam he eventually was acquitted of. For the third consecutive decade, Senator Jinggoy has managed a notorious three-peat distinction [music] on charges of similar nature, getting kickbacks allegedly in the hundreds of millions [music] in illicit or government money. As our Gab Humilde reports.
>> Senator Jinggoy Estrada is now detained at the Quezon City Jail male dormitory after the Sandiganbayan fifth division issued an arrest warrant in connection with the plunder case involving flood control projects worth 523 million pesos. This is not the first time that Estrada was implicated in a corruption case though. In 2001, he was implicated in a plunder case related to the allegations against former President Joseph Estrada. He was allowed to post bail in 2003 and was later acquitted. In 2013, Estrada was implicated in the PDAF or pork barrel scam after a COA report revealed that his pork barrel, along with those of several other senators, was endorsed to fake non-government organizations linked to Janet Lim Napoles. It is estimated that the senator allegedly received 183 million pesos in kickbacks. In 2014, the office of the Ombudsman filed plunder and 11 counts of graft against him. Also included in the cases filed against him are one count of direct bribery and two counts of indirect bribery and he was placed under a 90-day preventive suspension. In 2017, Estrada was allowed to post bail of 1.33 million pesos after the Sandiganbayan stated that the evidence presented was insufficient to prove the allegation of plunder. In 2024, the Sandiganbayan fifth division acquitted Estrada in the plunder case.
Although he was previously convicted of one count of direct bribery and two counts of indirect bribery, the anti-graft court later reversed these convictions. Gab Mil de Villa from the national TV network for new and better Philippines.
