The video offers a rigorous autopsy of iconographic syncretism, revealing how cultural memory often quietly overrides scriptural accuracy. It is a sharp reminder that the "visual gospel" frequently speaks a language the text never authorized.

Michael Weighing Souls — Who Actually Holds the Scale? - Scriptorium追加:
A Coptic icon in the Cairo Museum stops visitors cold. An Archangel in full armor holds a balance scale. The image is ancient, older than Christianity itself. In Egyptian funerary religion, Anubis weighed the heart of the dead against the feather of Ma'at. Christian iconographers inherited that visual grammar and handed the scale to Michael.
The motif is called the Psychostasia, Greek for the weighing of souls, and it appears in Last Judgment scenes from Torcello [music] to Voronet to Vatapedi. This 18th century Coptic version isolates it.
Michael alone, scale in hand, against a gold ground. But here is where iconography parts ways with the canonical text. Daniel 12:1 shows Michael standing up for God's people in the time of trouble. Jude 9 shows him disputing [music] with the devil over Moses' body. Revelation 12 shows him leading the heavenly armies.
>> [music] >> Three roles: defender, lawful adversary, captain. None of them is judge. [music] Judgment belongs to Christ. John 5:22 is unambiguous. The Father has committed all judgment to the Son. Acts 10:42 names Christ the ordained judge of the living and the dead. Romans 14:10 places every person before the judgment seat of Christ. The species is correct. There is a weighing, a verdict. The figure is wrong. Michael does not own the scale.
The Son of Man does.
