The competition to build ever higher bridges is fierce, and China has several projects in the pipeline that could challenge the record. The Qinggangling Bridge, also in Guizhou, is reportedly planned to surpass 600 m. The Jinshajiang Bridge in Sichuan is another contender. But for now, the crown belongs to Huajiang. At 626 m, it stands a clear 60 m above its predecessor, the Duge Beipanjiang Bridge. That's a margin of nearly 20 stories. Interestingly, the previous record holder, the Duge Beipanjiang Bridge, is located in the same province, just a few hours drive away. In 2016, when it opened, it was hailed as a miracle of engineering.
