What's been happening [music] now?
Shifting our focus to some breaking news coming in. Jeff Bezos-owned Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket exploded during a ground test. The incident occurred during a routine testing phase, but no injuries were reported on the site.
The company said that it is investigating the cause of the explosion and reviewing safety procedures as of now. Blue Origin has been developing the New Glenn rocket for future orbital missions and launches. The test setback raises questions about schedule timelines and even readiness for upcoming flights.
Officials continue monitoring further investigation updates closely.
For more on this, we are being joined by CNN News 18's Srishti Chaudhary.
Srishti, welcome to the broadcast. What can you tell us about this fiery explosion?
>> Uh yes, a very good morning to you. So, this massive New Glenn rocket exploded during a static fire engine test.
It was a ground test, not an actual launch, and there were no payload on board, and all the workers uh at the station are reported safe. So, this rocket was being prepared to launch the Amazon internet satellites. So, they were testing it, and uh it exploded.
That was a massive explosion which was captured uh on cameras as well. The videos from the live stream uh which which was occurring at that time showed flames erupting around the lower engine section before the full explosion. Uh and this rocket was important because it was designed to compete with the you know, rockets like Falcon Heavy and uh and Starship. And uh it was also uh named after the astronaut John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth. Of course, the investigations will uh continue to determine what led to it. But, according to the NASA administrator, uh he says that uh this anomaly uh you know, he called it an anomaly and also highlighted in the statement that you know spaceflight is unforgiving and something like this can happen but I think the detailed investigation will kind of determine what what what led to it but this was a massive explosion and I think people who are watching the live stream were saw saw this happening with those severe flame erupting.
>> All right, they will be of course looking into the reasons of the explosion or explosion there. But thankfully there's no injury in this fire there. Thank you so much Srishti for joining us and sharing your perspective. With this we are heading into a small break. News and updates continue here on CNN News 18. Stay tuned.
