Carden's Folly is a folly structure located on the summit of Devil's Bit Mountain in County Tipperary, Ireland, constructed in 1860 by John Rider Carden, a notorious landlord whose family arrived in Ireland in the 17th century and became principal landlords in the area; Carden was known for his ruthless eviction practices, earning him the nickname 'Tipperary exterminator' and the local moniker 'Woodcock' due to numerous failed assassination attempts, and he was also imprisoned twice for his violent infatuation with Eleanor Arbuthnot before dying unmarried in 1866.
