When installing LED lights on vehicles, resistors must be properly positioned away from wires and heat-sensitive components to prevent melting, short circuits, and electrical failures; improper installation of resistors can cause ground and power wires to touch, leading to malfunctioning lights and warning messages.

This Bad Wiring Job Caused All These ProblemsAdded:
Let me show you something that causes me to lose more hair on my head and drives me crazy. I've got this truck here. It's a 2003 Dodge, really nice truck, but the issue the customer is having is getting lamp out warning messages and his lights are not working right. The company that installed this bed, they put LED lights in which are nice, but when you install LED lights is you got to install resistors. So, I started to inspect the wiring on this truck and my goodness.
You can see they installed their resistors here, but they're right here behind the lights and they were just stuffed. And these resistors get really warm and you can see like right here where it has started to melt through those wires. And so now I have a ground wire and a power wire here that are touching because this resistor has melted through here. The other mess I got that I got to deal with too is how they tied into the factory harness. You can see these wires are just been cut and spliced. They did use heat shrink butt connectors which are good, they're not the best but they're good, but you see we got a broken wire here. I got melted wires here. When you're installing aftermarket components on your truck, make sure you try and think ahead of potential issues like resistors getting hot and melting wires or being able to come back later and service and work on these circuits. You got to kind of plan ahead and think about how I want to connect these wires together or how I want to create the circuit for this bed so later on it doesn't give you more headaches. You can see right here we had another resistor that was on this rubber grommet. These rubber grommets go around the lights and they help help hold that light in place, but because of the resistor it started to melt through that grommet and even into his light right here as well. You got to make sure you think ahead when you're installing these aftermarket components. So, I want to hear if you have had aftermarket accessories that have caused you electrical issues, comment below and let us know what you found and maybe what you would have done differently.
