Blue green algae is impacting Lake Allatoona

[00:00:00]It's called a blue green algae mold and it is turned up in Lake Allatoona in Bartow County. Mostly in smaller coves and this is what you're looking at here.

[00:00:17]So water authority officials say that this is toxic.

[00:00:21]It's caused by lower lake levels and is connected to the drought. So folks are being warned stay out of the water in areas that this is around and also keep your pets out of the water.

[00:00:34]Can be fatal to dogs. So it's very wise to avoid this at all costs. However, water authority officials in Cobb County, they take care of the drinking supply that's coming off of Lake Allatoona. They insist that the drinking water supply is safe.

[00:00:54]But this uh algae bloom can cause skin rashes and if you swallowed any of it by accident, it could cause some stomach problems.
