Mental Health Problem or Crisis of Meaning?

[00:00:00]10 years ago, people were talking about the youth problem as a mental health problem. Of course, it wasn't a mental health problem. [music] There were some, yes, but it was really a crisis of meaning. And many people had rejected the Christian faith and they brought in philosophies that were basically nihilistic. There was no meaning, no purpose, no real reason to live for.

[00:00:20][music] And obviously the rise of teenage suicides and so on. So, thank God there's a turning back. I think everybody needs three things. meaning, [music] making sense of the world, belonging, finding your place in the world, and purpose, meaning, belonging, and purpose. [music] And the deepest answer to each of those is the gospel.

[00:00:41]Science is incredible, but it's all about the how of the universe. Whereas the wonder of the Bible, which is not against science, of course, as you know, well, the Bible's all about the why and the deepest things that go beyond the how. Things like love. How can science verify love? Things like that are beyond science in [music] many ways. You can see the chemical reactions of this, that, and the other. But the Bible gets into the why. Many of the [music] deep things of life that science at its best for all its greatness simply can't answer. But the gospel is the deepest [music] answer. And not surprisingly, there's a turning back. And I welcome it among young people particularly.
