Introduction to the Bhagavad Gita

[00:00:30]Let us start the Bhagat Gita with the first chapter based on the commentaries of Swami Chin Ananda from the book the holy Gita. This is the book we are going to look at.

[00:00:47]And in the introduction of the first chapter, Swami Chinandanda says that when the oponyish are taught by a teacher to a student in a silent and peaceful atmosphere of Malin valleys, the Gita is uh taught by the divine teacher Krishna in the tense and chaotic environment of battlefield.

[00:01:16]Here the cowas who are larger in number represent the ungodly forces and the negative tendencies in all of us.

[00:01:27]Whereas the pandavas who are less in number represent the divine impulses within all of us.

[00:01:37]Even though the diver impulses are less in number, if the divine impulses are brought under the guidance of the supreme self or Krishna, then it is certain to have the victory over the outnumbering forces of lust and greed. If the mind is born blind to the truth and even if the intellect is also assumed blindness then there can be only hundreds of criminalities and sins. That's why the that's what the 100 kowas are representing here. Upon the spiritual field of self-development, there arises a war between the lower instincts and a higher ideals in each and every one of us. In this situation, a true seeker faces that inner war to find the real truth where he observes without identifying himself as good or evil.

[00:02:52]And this mental condition is beautifully explained as the Arjuna's dejection in the first chapter.

[00:03:03]Here the divine song starts with the word dharma and ends with the word my. That means the entire contents of the Gita is all about my dharma or mama dharma.

[00:03:23]So and the term dharma actually translates to righteousness but the real meaning in Sanskrit is the true nature or the law of peace.

[00:03:38]that is uh for example it is a dharma of a fire to burn or the sun to shine etc. Dharma means therefore not only righteousness or goodness but it indicates the essential nature of anything without which it cannot retain its independent existence.

[00:04:05]For example, we cannot imagine a cold dark sun. It is impossible because the heat and light of the sun is the dharma of the sun.

[00:04:19]Similarly, if we are here to live as truly as dynamic men in the world, we can only do so by being faithful to our true nature. And the Gita explains to me my dharma.
