Food at the LARGEST HOSPITAL in Beaumont, TXAdded:
What's going on guys? Dave over here at St. Elizabeth's. I had some work done. I got ultrasound done on my arm. Hopefully everything's okay, but we're going to check out the cafeteria over here. See if they have any good The ultrasound tech told me that there's some good burgers, there's some good sandwiches, and they also have like daily items on the menu. So, let's go check it out.
Let me get checked out me. Let's go.
All right, I went the totally wrong way.
If you want to want to go to the cafeteria, don't go through the outpatient area cuz I got lost. I'm heading all the way to the main entrance, which is a pretty good walk. I was taking some kind of skyway.
Now I'm heading over there.
Hopefully this is right.
>> [music] >> Okay, I'm Sasha. I'm a senior food service director here at St. Elizabeth, and I'm a tour guide. Retail manager here at St. Elizabeth. We have a variety of everything because when your loved ones are in the hospital, we want to make sure that you're [music] at peace with the food. So, we try to have different variety for different people, and just spread joy while their loved ones are getting treated, or maybe they're here for a joyful event like, you know, having a baby or whatever the case may be. But we just want to make sure that we have a lot of variety to touch everybody. So, first of all, we have a $5 meal every day. Calendar outside. Every day of the week there's a $5 meal. The price point, I think we're very, very reasonable. You can get a burger, a fry for just under under $10.
If you go outside of here to maybe local restaurants is you're going to pay $13, $15. Here you're going to get value all the time.
We also have our home line, and it's fresh homemade food. So, if you want that good southern homemade food, you can stop by even if you don't have loved ones in, but our prices are very reasonable. Like every Friday we have fish, and we have gumbo. Our gumbo is only $5.85 for a cup of gumbo, and we have like a captain's platter, and it's $12. And it's a good deal. You get fish, hushpuppies, shrimp, two sides, and a roll. Please come check us out. Have a good time. Like she said, we have the home line. We have a action station, something different every day of the week. And we do different like cuisines. We did St. Elizabeth's food of the day. We have Greek food here sometimes. We have the grill. We have the deli, which has been a hit.
Everything made fresh at the deli. And we have our salad bar. Come see us. And we're always going to have a bright smiling face with our workers ready to please and appease All right, guys. So, here's everything that they have. This They got right here is the king of seafoods. So, today they got like fish, fried fish, shrimp.
This looks good. It's like artichoke dip, some artichokes, some brussels sprouts, hushpuppies. This is their salad over here.
Good little salad. You got spinach, ham, tuna, bacon, chicken, tomatoes, all that good stuff. And over here is the hearth and grill. This is what the ultrasound tech was telling me was really good cuz they make some good burgers. This is their special today. $5 for this and a side salad? Not too bad.
It's a good deal. Last time I came here, it was a hot dog and fries for $5, which is good. I feel like that is like more home cooked. Over here is like a drink station.
And then you got hearth and rye. They're going to make you some good sandwiches.
Today's special is $8.99 for a roasted turkey avocado BLT. All right, guys.
Donna gave me a little taste of her gumbo that they make, and it looks like a good gumbo. I don't know if y'all can see it. It's a very dark roux.
That's what you're always looking for in a gumbo. Looks like it's a seafood gumbo. Let's try it.
Wow.
Good gumbo. Good pieces of of crawfish in there, too.
Gumbo's good. It's only $5.85.
Really good deal. I'm at hearth and rye.
I'm getting this. This is the roasted turkey avocado BLT. $8.99 comes with the sandwich. Do you get chips with this?
No, chips don't come with it.
The $8.99 for the pickle and the sandwich, and I got me the roasted turkey avocado BLT. Looks really good. They said this is better than Subway, which is going to be good. And I saw saw her make it, and it's going to be yummy.
So, we'll get this. I told you all all this other stuff, too. But they got like a every little sandwich you can make.
They got chicken salad. They got They got turkey.
It's going to be a good time. Good food over here.
All right, they got little tiny salads, which is perfect. So, I'm going to get me a little something. I don't know what's the price point on this salad.
And they have different types of veggies, too. Like they got the mixed veggies, which I like cuz iceberg lettuce not my thing. So, little bit of that, little bit of that.
I'm going to try some of their tuna salad that they have on the other side.
Get some eats over here.
>> [music] >> All right, over here at the grill station, got me a cheeseburger with tater tots. They make it up fresh. So, that's that's even better than some other places. They're making up real fresh over here.
>> [music] [music] >> All right, guys. Got all of my food. I got a lot. This is not what your normal order would be. So, the salad, they do weigh it, and then that's how they know how much to charge you.
Uh the salad was salad was $5.41. So, eating healthy is a little more pricey.
This is a tiny salad. I did get like a lot of the tuna salad in there.
I got the cheeseburger, and then the sandwich. The sandwich is actually the thing I'm looking forward to the most. The burger looks good, too, but let's try this sandwich. Well, let's go to the salad first. Let's eat it properly. So, let's check out the salad.
So, see right there, I got me a big old lump of uh tuna salad in there. Got me the balsamic vinegar or the Italian vinaigrette.
Not too much other stuff. Croutons, carrots, tomatoes, and then some proteins. Well, what some more protein?
Well, let's try the salad. Looks Looks good. I made it, so I know it looks good. Let's try some of the tuna.
Dressing nice and tangy.
Tuna salad's yummy. Yeah, good salad.
So, if you do want to eat healthy, they do have a salad bar. You get as little or as much as you want.
And that's a good option. I know y'all were saying why don't they have all this other stuff? But like she said, like I said earlier, there's people want to eat food. They're normal people here, too. It is a hospital. There are people coming here for different occasions. So, they don't always want to eat healthy. They have to have options for everybody. This is a small city working in this hospital, and a lot of mouths to feed. Not everybody wants to eat like the super healthy salads.
So, that's why they have options.
And salad bar, pretty solid salad bar. Let's move on to the sandwich. I'll show you that next. So, here's the salad. Got the spicy pickles, and then you got the tomato, fresh lettuce, the bacon, the turkey, [music] and then there's some avocado on the bottom, too.
It was grilled in a panini press. I would have got like the chips, but I got some tater tots on the other one. So, here's the sandwich right there. Looks real healthy. Again, not another pretty healthy thing here at the food court cafeteria of the St. E's.
Pretty good amount of meat. This was $8.99 for this. So, good amount of meat in there. Nice little sandwich.
Could use some mustard and some mayo.
So, I'll put that on top of there.
I like mine fully dressed.
I like everything fully dressed. Like my burgers, [music] I want everything on it. I think back in the day, I don't know what switched in me, but one day I was like, I want to eat [music] it just the way like they would like the chef would want it.
That's when I started adding everything.
Like onions.
Just eat it the way and stop saying no [music] to things.
If you want to eat it how the chef want it. And if you don't like it how the chef want it, add some mustard, some mayo, [music] or whatever.
But at least try it the way it's supposed to be made first.
Really good sandwich.
I enjoyed that.
Let's try the spicy pickles.
It's a good pickle.
A little little bit of a kick.
But this is a [music] good sandwich. If you like avocado, turkey, bacon, really good. She said this is one of the top sandwiches, too.
One more bite.
Very good.
And let's move on to the last thing, which is the cheeseburger.
Got me the burger, last thing I'm eating. Ton of food. And the guys were like in the back, they were like, got to get with the tater tots or french fries to complete it. So, I wasn't looking to eat all the food, but I decided to get it go ahead and get it.
And this is the burger right here.
Nicely dressed. I put some ketchup, mustard, and mayo in there.
And they were telling me, too, they like to put the butter on there like on the bread, they toast it, and then they also like melt the cheese. So, the cheese is melted. Sometimes you get a burger, cheese isn't melted. That's one of my pet peeves.
Let's try it.
It is a little dry, but not bad.
A little fall apart a little bit. Let's try the tater tots.
Tater tots are good, well fried.
The burger, it was like freshly made, but it was like re-warmed on there, so that's why the burger patty is a little bit dry. I'm going to finish the rest of this up.
I'll talk to you on the outside. So, what I think about St. Elizabeth in the cafeteria here in the hospital.
All right, guys. So, that's going to be it from St. Elizabeth here in the cafeteria. What I think about it, I'm not going to give it a score cuz this is just just a cafeteria that people come to eat, and there's healthy food, there's all types of food for the city that this hospital is.
But, my favorite things that I did have in there was going to be that sandwich with the avocado, turkey, bacon.
That was very, very tasty. The gumbo, the little taste tester that I had of that, that was also very tasty. And, yeah. Lots of good food. There's some salad, if you guys want that, there's some fried food, if you want that. They got They got the burgers, of course. So, go check it out if you're ever in the area. And, they also have those $5 meals that are really good. That actually looked super tasty with that pasta. So, check it out here in Beaumont, Texas.
Don't forget to follow me on the food.
Follow me at Beaumont Foodie. I'll see you guys next one. Peace.
