Special presentations in the Marvel Cinematic Universe serve as valuable storytelling tools that can introduce new characters, explore untapped supernatural worlds, and develop character backstories in ways that feature films cannot. These half-hour to hour-long formats allow for creative experimentation with narrative structures like choose-your-own-adventure stories, while also providing opportunities to flesh out characters like Victor von Doom or Sam Wilson's Captain America in ways that complement rather than compete with main MCU releases.

6 Special Presentations the MCU Needs to MakeHinzugefügt:
MCU special presentations are a format that have been sorely mishandled simply because we need more of them. In fact, I would not mind something crazy and unrealistic like one a month, which could be introducing new characters or revisiting already established ones giving us a glimpse into specific worlds within [music] the MCU's wide universe.
Yet, it's a goldmine that has been entirely untapped. So, out of the infinite number of these we could [music] potentially get I want to propose six possible special presentations that can and should be made. Starting out with a She-Hulk choose your own adventure. Something like the Black Mirror Bandersnatch episode, if you ever checked that out, which I believe is the best version of a TV choice-based narrative that we're ever going to get aside from actual games like Dispatch. But, if the MCU were to even get close to that greatness, I'd be beyond impressed. And with a character like She-Hulk, you can really get trippy with it and have some fun. What its narrative could be, I truly have no idea. I mean, I'd like there to be a villain to overcome, possibly even a surreal one with meta-commentary, such as the Headmen or specifically Ruby Thursday, or maybe someone creepy like Zenmu. Though, I wouldn't mind him being saved for a future film. But, I also understand that a simple straightforward story might be necessary for a choose-your-own-adventure kind of narrative. All the while, bringing us back to She-Hulk's fun sitcom world that some pretend was terrible, but we all know we had fun with. Or, admittedly, if they want to get more eyes on it and make more money, they'd make this Deadpool. But, after the news that she likely won't get a season 2, She-Hulk needs some well-deserved spotlight. But, next up is one I'm going to cast with a wide net because it could be any number of things given we just need another special presentation on the MCU's supernatural side. Something snappy and violent. Not necessarily a follow-up to Werewolf by Night, with there not being enough time to cram any cameos in.
Though in the back of my mind, I know I would like to see them. But this would just be another story in that darker paranormal world. And out of the plethora of options, most of all, I want to see an introduction of a new hero, Ghost Rider. And we do have Robbie Reyes' version in the MCU. But if I'm honest, it's just not the same without the bike. But whether it's Reyes or Blaze, maybe the Ryan Gosling one I put front and center in the thumbnail, as long as I see some fiery chains whipping about, I'm going to be happy. But even if it's not Ghost Rider, something else is needed to remind audiences of this for the most part well-written and so far untapped world Marvel needs to utilize. And just to have a half an hour to an hour of entertainment. Which could be Moon Knight or Layla El-Faouly's Scarlet Scarab who I've talked about recently, or Blade. Lord knows we need him. Hell, we could get a small adventure with Billy and Ghost Agatha.
Just something so that everyone doesn't forget about this world before Doomsday.
And speaking of, though this one maybe isn't as well-written, is Sam Wilson. So I propose a life in the day of Sam Wilson's Captain America fighting a C-list villain like Nuke or Armadillo or someone, helping some troubled passersby, and being an all-around hero.
Doing something that would be a clear backpedal from his not-so-great movie, but is needed because the people need to know that Anthony Mackie's Captain America could have been a leading man.
Perhaps this could even fix one of Marvel's biggest mistakes in the Multiverse Saga and show us Sam recruiting people to his Avengers team.
Maybe the whole presentation is just him flying to meet someone for an interview and has to stop a supervillain's jewel heist on the way. I don't know, just something brief and concise. But for my fourth special presentation, I'd like to see something a little dumb, but could be just what this cynical world needs.
The Pet Avengers. And I'm not talking the Avengers but animals, though that does exist. I'm talking about the time in the comics when Frog puts together a team of animal sidekicks. By the way, common misconception, Frog is not Thor.
He's an entirely separate frog given a sliver of Mjolnir. Regardless though, the Pet Avengers originally consisted of bats, Doctor Strange's ghost dog, Lockheed, an alien who looks like a dragon that also appeared in a movie no one watched, Lockjaw, the Inhumans teleporting dog, and Odin's ravens. But this special presentation could have anything from the MCU deemed animal enough to throw in. Crocodile Loki, Valkyrie's horse, Lucky the pizza dog, Goose the Flerken, Anthony's ant ghost, Morris. Perhaps Rocket could even come down to lead and bring Cosmo as muscle.
Literally anyone. Well, I guess not anyone because you might have noticed how I omitted some guys. Toothnapper and Toothgrinder. Yeah, that's because they suck and no one, not even the Pet Avengers, want them on their team. But I can't be mad at them. They were merely one of the many jokes in Love and Thunder that was mildly funny, but was just run into the ground. But that doesn't matter. What does is the fifth special presentation I'd like to see.
Something I've proposed before when I was talking about how the special presentation medium is a wasted opportunity in my listicle all about the MCU's wasted opportunities. Meaning I won't spend all day listing off how it could be great. But that is a Howard the Duck detective mystery. In fact, if they're popular enough, I want them to be recurring with a new cryptic, maybe even ambiguous case in every installment, which is more of a modern Howard the Duck thing with the classic Gerber Howard the Duck being more of the guy who gets roped into wacky adventures. But, I'm just such a fan of Zdarsky's 2015 series that I want to see it adapted in some way. Nevertheless, the last two proposed special presentations have skewed on the bizarre and zany side, though I am being dead serious about them. But, I want to end on one similar in tone to the Punisher special we're getting this week. Not as grounded, but just as depressingly somber. That being something akin to the Books of Doom. [music] Not to be confused with the Book of Doom, a collection of a bunch of different Doctor Doom comics from across the decades, but Books of Doom, the six-issue mini-series by Brubaker retelling his origin of becoming an influential political figure in his home country Latveria as he combines science and magic in this unholy pair with the end goal of freeing his mother from the eternal torment she suffers in hell.
Ultimately showing how the hardships in Doom's past have shaped him into the vain tyrant he is now. And, it's tricky because I'm sure Doomsday will tell us everything we need to know about the MCU's Victor von Doom, quite possibly even telling this origin story in a cold open or something and treading the exact same ground. And, despite their recent mishaps, I trust the Russo brothers and everyone at Marvel to do [music] Doom justice. But, if his origin, particularly its themes, aren't dived into in Doomsday, then let this proposed special be an ancillary part of Doom's story that can be a bonus if watched, fleshing out the character and his world that much more, but isn't necessary. It could even coincide with Doomsday's release and come out a week before or something. Just let these specials be a part of the MCU rather than the afterthought they appear to be. But what do you think of these potential special presentations? Any you want to see in particular? Comment down below with some specials of your own because like I mentioned up top, there are an infinite number of these we could get. But after my hour-long listical from last week, I chose to keep it at a nice tight six.
But let me know if you want more of these quick-fire listicals or if you want deeper, more extensive ones or if you like both equally. But as always, thank you so much for watching. Make sure to leave a like, subscribe weekly video essays and reviews, and enjoy a delicious sandwich.
