[00:00:03][music] Hey, welcome to the channel or welcome back to the channel whichever may be the case for you. My name is Matt. I am clearly an old man as you can now see on the screen and I do like ranking things and I've taken the ranking Ives discoraphy.

[00:00:19]All all things about IV discoraphy including IV adjacent things like OSTs or collabs or solo efforts or what have you. It will all be ranked here.

Batty, Black Hole, Royal 11, Bang Bang, Ascendio, Shine with Me, I Am, Blue Blood, My Satisfaction, Strawberry Moon, which is Wyong, and Eso, uh, Take It, Afterlike, and Love Dive. You'll notice asterisks by those. Those will be considered for reranking once we get the entire discoraphy done. They may go higher or they may not. And catch is currently at number 20. It's not a terrible song, folks. It's just my 20th favorite out of the 20 that I've reviewed. So, this time around, what are we doing? We're doing lips, not MC Jagger's lips. I hope. Uh, let's check it out. Just a word of warning, folks. I do talk over the song. Uh, that's part of my process of figuring out how much I like it or dislike it as compared to the other songs that I've listened to already. Uh, I also pause videos sometimes and if that's not your thing, hey, I get it. Um, thanks for giving this video or this channel a shot. I'm probably just not for you if that's not something that you are willing to either tolerate or are interested in. Uh, here we go with lips.

[00:03:43]the >> core progression doesn't change a whole lot, [music] >> nor does there's much change in the instrumentation, >> which usually [music] producers do that.

[00:03:54]Um, when there's [music] a, you know, a progression that repeats, you got to change some things a little bit in [music] order to keep it interesting even for them.

[00:04:09]>> Okay, now we've changed the feel. So that's the kind of change you need.

[00:04:14]>> Oh now that chord was different.

[00:04:20][music] >> So uh in that little bridge there they did one change rather than doing the um let's see they did the A minor to the D to the D uh to the G.

[00:04:35]But uh in the choruses they've been going and the verses they've been going to E minor but in the bridge they went to C which leaves things hanging in the air a little bit more. Uh which is good for a bridge. You want to leave things hanging in the air a little more so you can drive it home with the final chorus.

[00:05:41]>> It it's it reminds me of an older style of song making. Um which I am more akin to because that's more the kind of thing that uh I heard when I was younger. I know uh most of you are what anywhere from like 19 to 30 listening to these.

[00:06:02]And I don't think you got a whole lot of that kind of stuff where the instrumental breakups were. Maybe uh rock stuff. You got uh guitar solos and that kind of thing. Uh but not just pure just kind of like eight bar breaks of just instrumental uh in between uh a chorus and a vocal. Um nowadays they want to compress everything into into shorter songs. So they they've taken all that stuff out, which I think is a shame because this was beautiful. Let's rank this thing.

[00:06:30]So my one drawback for this, and this is just because I'm a musical snob, okay?

[00:06:34]It has nothing to do uh with how it was produced or anything else. It's just me.

[00:06:40]If something does the same progression over and over and over, um I lose the sense of shape of the song. And um that's hurtful to me as a listener. Uh, personally, again, it may not have bothered you at all, and there's nothing wrong if it didn't bother you. Uh, it's just that that's my own personal taste.

[00:07:00]So, I'm not going to go any higher than shine with me for sure because that's where the gap between, you know, between seven and eight right now seems to be where the gap is. I like I am better. I like Blueb Blood better. I like My Satisfaction better. I like Strawberry Moon better. I like Take It better. I like Afterlife better. I like Love Dive better. I like Ice Queen better.

[00:07:27]Do I like it better than Ray's song? So or her version of Jenny's song solo better?

[00:07:37]Um [clears throat] yeah, clear your throat, Matt, because that's going to make it better. Um no, I I I I do like it better. It's not going to go below Solo by Ray. So that's where it's at. Number 16. We've now done 20 songs, right? 21 songs. 16 out of 21.

[00:07:58]Remember, none of these songs are bad songs, folks.

[00:08:01]21 Kits just happens to be my 21st favorite song. Uh as opposed to Baddy, which is my first favorite song. And that's the way that goes. Uh thanks for watching these.
