Elite cornerbacks in high-level college football require exceptional speed (4.42 40-yard dash), length (6'1"), and athletic versatility, with the ability to contribute on special teams while developing into a defensive back; the SEC's fast receivers necessitate cornerbacks with track-level speed to compete effectively.

Arkansas Lands SPEEDY 4.42 CB John Catlin IV! | Razorbacks Add Texas Playmaker
Added:Hey, what is up everybody? This is the great Puckatini and what I got for you today is I'm gonna break down this young man right here. This is John Catelyn IVth and he is committed to the Arkansas Razerbacks and man, I'm very excited about it because guess what? He has 442 speed. This guy can absolutely fly, man.
He can run. He's fun to watch. Uh he um he's a cornerback as well. He's a six foot one big guy, you know. Um man, just really excited. He's a heck of an athlete. Played corner and receiver in high school, but he's gonna play corner at Arkansas. And uh now he had 22 offers. Okay, so this is a highly recruited guy. Um just a really good athlete, man. Got super speed and that's what you want, man. Speed kills and when you get big speed, that's even better, you know. 61 442 speed corner. Yeah, I think we need some of that. So, anyway, and he's out of Texas. So, u So, everything looks really good to me. So, we're going to break him down here and then I got some video to show you at the end. And it's pretty exciting, man.
Watching speed on film. It's really exciting. So, anyway, let's break him down. So, come on with me. We're going to I'm going to show you what I think about him on a PowerPoint and then we're going to watch some video. So, let's let's go along and have some fun here.
Here we go. Now, there's uh Catelyn when he was on his visit to Arkansas. Uh so uh Arkansas lands him here. He's a track fast 2027 corner with SEC developmental upside. You know, he's a cornerback from Denton Ryan here in Texas. 44240. He had 22 offers like I just told you. And he just committed June 13th. That was this Saturday, which was yesterday. Today, Sunday when I'm filming this, the 14th.
So he just committed to us and uh really excited about it. Now, why does this commitment matter? Well, first off, you look, here's his prospect info. He's 5'11 167. He's from Denton Ryan High School there in Denton, Texas. And he's in the class of 2027. Now, up on the top right over here, I'm just kind of going through it and I add to it as I remember stuff when I was making this. Um, Arkansas did not just add a body of corner, they added a speed profile, right? And you need speed because I remember was it Julian Nil or somebody asked him one time he was on the coaches show it's coach Patrino show at the time and he said man these cats in the SEC's receivers boy they can fly.
He said they can run in the Big 12 too but these receivers in the SEC man they can really run. So you need corners to have a lot of speed to to take away some of those big plays that we've been giving up right now. Now, Catlin gives Arkansas legitimate track speed defensive back in the 2027 class. He brings cornerback length at 61, receiver experience because he has been playing receiver in high school and an explosive timed athleticism. He is he's explosive.
Also a return man, too. I should add that. Punt return and kick return.
So, the Hogs pushed development, SEC competition, and a family feel during the visit. That's what Catelyn said.
They talked about developing as a person and as a player, too. I'll talk about that a little bit later, so I don't need to keep repeating myself. But anyway, his class rank, the Arkansas's class rank after this commitment here, they jumped up to 33rd. I think they're in like the 40s. So now they're in the 33rd. That's really good. We want to get in the top 25, top 10, right? We got to be up there if that's the way we want to plan to fall. We're 10th in the SEC, though. You say that's what's so crazy is you be 33rd in the nation but then 10th the bottom of the SEC. SEC has what 12 teams is that right? I could be way off on that. But anyway, uh the commit number we're up to 17 commits and so getting a lot of players, man. He's changing the way the team looks and hopefully with players like John Catlin there. It's good good change. Now, here's a snapshot. I've talked about a lot of this already. He he was a cornerback and receiver. So, I mean, if corner don't works out, you always put this big joke at receiver. He's 6'1 167 from Denton Ryan, Denton, Texas, 27 class. Where's number two? Here is rankings. Uh 247 sports gave him an 87 grade, which is good. The uh cornerback rank in the nation, they rank him as the 70th best corner in the country. In Texas, they rank him as a 96th best prospect coming out of Texas. And his composite score of all of the um recruiting services there is an 86. So 247, just a little bit above that. So really good stuff right there. Now, here's his athletic profile. Remember, when I break down players, if you haven't watched me before in the SEC coming to Arkansas, I I compare them to the NFL prototype size and speed at that position. And uh and the prototype, this is what Bill, I got this actually, I think, from Bill Parcel several years ago, and he had used this and Jimmy Johnson used it pretty much too.
similar, maybe a little bit different when they draft players and they and I've heard them both say as long as they stayed within these parameters, they usually had good players, but when they got out of that and tried to maybe take a faster guy was smaller, didn't work out or a slower guy or something, it didn't work out for them. So, always tried to work within these parameters as best you can. You know, you can't they can't all be this certain height and weight and 40 time. You like them to be close to it, though. So in SEC, you're going to play against future NFL players. So you have to have a size and speed to compete at this level and be good. It's just the truth. Okay. Now, so his profile is that he's faster than the NFL prototype speed for an NFL corner.
NFL prototype is at for a corner is 5'11 193. They run a 44740.
Catelyn is lighter, but the speed and track resume pop immediately. So, you look here, I did these little bar charts. Uh, height is he's 6'1. I've seen some places list him 5'11, but he says he's 6'1 on his huddle page there when I look got his video. Uh, NFL prototype size for corners 5'11. So, that's good. Weight, um, Catelyn's 167.
The NFL is 193. That's only 16 pounds off. You know, remember, he's still got a senior year in high school to play.
and and we're saying these this is the prototype in NFL or these are probably players that are two three years into the NFL. They're grown men. So Catelyn is right at it. And then the 40 time he's he's faster than the 40 time. 442 is his reported 40 that he has on his huddle. NFL prototype speed for an NFL corner is a 447.
So very good right there. You know, just needs to gain a little weight, but of course he does. He's in high school, you know. Uh, his vertical is 34 inch vertical, which is good. 205 bench, 310 squat, and he did five reps at 185. That was stuff I saw, I think, on his huddle page there. I just added um takeaway here. He checks the speed box right away. We need speed, you know, and that'll take away some of these big plays that we give up. Uh he'll add if he adds, he needs to add functional weight without losing suddenness. And he can run with vertical threats. He can.
And he's very has a good IQ. He can come off his man and and break up a pass.
He's very aware of his surroundings. I think he understands offensive concepts pretty good because he's played receiver, too. And you'll see it in his video here. Now, his tracks track speed shows up on paper. It shows up on the field, too. But it's 100 meters is a 1063. I mean, that is flying, guys.
1063. Wow. Anything under 10 is really good. A 106. Woo. Uh 21.24 in the 200.
really good. That was a Texas 5A regional qualifier. Now, we're talking about the state of Texas. Okay. 400 meters, 48.95. That's rare quarterback endurance marker. That means you can run a full lap around that track 48 seconds.
That's pretty good. Uh why does it matter for a corner? Well, recovery speed after a false step. Maybe you come up to jam and you miss. Can you hurry back and catch that receiver before he burns you for a touchdown? Catling can do that a lot of the times. ability to cover routes down the field. Yeah, if you're going to fade on him, he should be able to hang with you. There's not many people that gonna run away from Catlin. Probably nobody. Unless he just misses a tackle. Explosive closing burst on throws underneath. Yeah, he he sees it. He can jump it. He's explosive.
Special teams value early in his career.
I see him playing on kickoff team. I see him returning kickoffs and punts. And I hate that the college football, you know, all these rules now, it's hard to have good returns, but but he's definitely, man, he's he's a good return guy and good on kickoff team, too. He'll definitely be on that as your safety guy to chase anybody down that may break free. Uh definitely do that for you. All right, football production and two-way background. You know, his junior season 25. Yeah, he just finished his junior season. I'm sorry. He had 31 tackles, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery. His sophomore year gave him varsity experience. He played varsity as a sophomore. You know, that's hard to do sometimes these big high schools in Texas. And his junior year gave him production and a stronger recruiting profile. And that got his name out there. He played both corner and receiver. So, he understands the route stem from both sides. And that's very good. Um, his cornerback projection is built around speed, length, and ball production. You know, has those two interceptions. He breaks up a lot of passes, too. You'll see in his film. Uh his skill set fits a developmental track, compete early on special teams and push for defensive snaps as his frame fills out. And that's for sure. I mean, he'll he can be on your kickoff team right now in return returner right now with his speed, man. He can fly, he can go, he can get it. Now, what Arkansas is betting on, well, they're betting on his his long speed insurance, you know, um because he can run, chase people down, kickoff team, defense, and he's explosive, can cover all that.
Gives him legitimate recovery ability, ball skills, you know, he he was a receiver. Um, so he knows how to track football pretty good. He understands route combinations. You know, if he sees a maybe that receiver stops a short route, maybe look behind him. are trying to stretch him. You know, if it's a cover three, you know, they're trying to make him if he covers short, they throw long. If he covers long, they throw short. So, he understands that pro. I think when you watch him play, his length 51 or 61, whichever is good, that's NFL prototype. SEC development, he he talked about and I saw it where he said uh they talked to him about developing as a person, not just a football player, you know, and he really liked that. And plus the SEC environment, I mean, that's the best. If you're trying to go to the NFL, you need to prove yourself at the top level. And if you can do that, you can play in the NFL. All right. Now, what I put down here, I can't remember. Uh, Catlin, bottom line here is Catelyn is a speed first corner prospect with upside tied to weight room growth and technical refinement for sure. Um, you know, he's got the speed and that's something you can't really coach. And uh then you just got to get in the weight room, get bigger, stronger, and then uh just refine your technique, you know, get better at it. Uh be the best you can be at it. How's it going to fit with Arkansas? Well, he says that he felt that Arkansas prioritized him during the official visit weekend. They really uh made him a priority and that made him feel good. Of course, Catelyn said the staff sold development, not just football, but player and person development. He liked that a lot. ACEC quarterback play requires speed, length, confidence, and the ability to tackle in space. And that's what he looks like. He does that. You'll see his early path can include special teams while he adds strength and masters technique. And then I put who doesn't want to be developed in the SEC? And like I said, it's a one of the I mean, the other divisions are good, too, but you know, SEC is the best. They broke a record I think this last year for how many draft picks were drafted out of the SEC. So, I mean, if you're wanting to go to the NFL, the SEC is where is the number one. That's where you want to go if you can, you know.
Yeah. So, recruiting context, he had 22 offers. Uh, you had Purdue, BYU, Boston College, Iowa State, uh, Texas, San Antonio down there with old boy that was Arkansas. Oh man, what's his name? Good grief. Um, I'm going brain dead. But anyway, Boise State, Coastal Carolina, and many others. So, he had some good teams after him there. Family connection. His brother, Javon Sanders, is a former Texas tight end and plays for the Carolina Panthers. I think he still does. Dad gum, I put former on that. Um, I think he's still playing, but he may be not right now. I don't know, but he did. Um, that gives Catelyn a highle football example in the family, but his projection stand on his own speed and coverage upside for sure. you know, you don't factor in his brother there. But anyway, he knows what it takes to get to the league and stay there. He understands that and the work it takes and how you got to act. So, that's good stuff there. He's had a good a good role model there. Hopefully, final take. I believe this is probably my last slide and it is uh speed plus upside plus SEC development. That's what we're getting right here. This is the type of take you like in a 27 class elite speed Texas 5A track production.
Uh which is really good. Texas track is really good, really competitive. Uh two-way football background in a frame.
Arkansas can develop because you can add weight to it. 5'11, 61, whichever like to get him up that 190 lb range if you can, you know. But that remember that's NFL weight that we're talking about there. But anyway, he definitely if he had strength and polishes his technique, Catelyn could become a legitimate SEC corner piece for sure, man. He could be a star. Just depends on how he develops and keeps working, you know. So, so hopefully he'll keep it rolling there.
All right, let's go over here and watch a little film. Um, love watching guys.
Like watching speed on film, too, man.
That's fun. Watch these guys. I go I'm going to take my turn my camera off here. I wonder if I need to click it off over here, too.
I'm gonna turn that off. See if that works.
I don't know. Anyway. All right. So, my computer's not very good, and it will lag. It'll start lagging. So, I'd like to show a lot of this. It's 7 and 12 minutes long. Now, notice the team's punting and this is Catlin. I think he's back here because that wouldn't be a very hard punt right there. He's going to return this punt and uh so anyway, I'm just going to play it, kind of talk over it. So, let's check it out. Here we go. Well, here we Oh, there we go.
Here he is right here. You see him? They do a good job of marking him there and uh catch gets up field right away. Get downhill right away. Now, make a cut or two and then you're gone off the races.
You know that one guy right there did a good job. But you see Catelyn right there. His speed and his explosiveness.
Here he is again on punt. Watch this catch he makes. Man, he's backing up.
Makes one guy miss. Get downhill.
Downhill. They do a good job there kind of him. But look at him, boy. He Houdini down that sideline. Wow, that was impressive. It looked like they had him hemmed up right there, but making that catch, backpedaling and making that catch. Tough. It was tough catch to begin with. Here we go. Uh kickoff return.
There he is getting down. I like the way he gets downhill. He don't play around. Look at him. Take the house. Stay the house.
Take the house. Take the house. Look at that speed right there. Wow. He can really run, man. And remember, this is Texas 5A. This is not uh pee-wee league here. Here he is down at the corner.
Turning run. Look at his hips. Look at him running. He runs this route better than receiver. Look at that. He ran it better than receiver. Great hands right there. I mean, really good hands. He took that to the middle field other side. Probably would have scored. But anyway, uh great. He ran that route better than receiver.
No, don't want to call. All right. Here he is up top now. Right there is what I'm talking about. That's a cover three.
This his receiver stopped and he went back and read that and picked off the other receiver. Great play right there.
That was exactly what I was talking about cuz I saw that in this in this film and I remembered it. Here he is going to throw right there. Same thing.
Watch him getting back there deep and intercepting it. Great play right there.
He's not supposed to be there really. I mean that was really not. Now watch this. Yeah. Blocking field goals. Watch how he comes off of there. Boom. Look at that. Blocks it. He has like two or three of these, I think, in this film.
That is crazy speed. Watch him. Here he goes. Watch how fast. Boom. Did you miss that one? He might have missed it. I think he got it. Looks like he got it. I didn't see it. They're celebrating. So, I mean, this joker can go off that corner. And you really leave him block unblocked because you got to block people inside. Look at him. Boom. Got that one, too. How many is that? Three.
I guess that other one might have been a replay, but anyway, that's at least two.
I mean, boom. Look at that's three or four that we've seen here. I mean, that is crazy.
Um, all right. Here we go. Down here, corner down here at the goal line. What can he do? Here he is on a blitz. Watch him.
Boy, he can go now. Bring him corner blitz. That short side of the field corner blitz. Good call by the DC right here, short side of the field again. But I don't think he's going to do that here.
Look at him. He's got his hands on the receiver and he comes off and makes a tackle. It's a shoestring tackle, but hey, that's okay. It worked. Got him down. Here he is on kickoff team, which I was saying he would be really good doing this for Arkansas. You see him?
He's way back here. He's a safety man.
That's what you do. You kind of loop around the middle and just kind of wait.
If that guy breaks, you got to catch him. And he's broken. And boom, right there's Catelyn. Great job right there getting him down. Here he is. Now watch him. Boy, he can turn and run now. Right there again, they try to run a concept on him. Run trying to trick him and he reads that, comes off and breaks up that pass.
We've seen him do that twice right now.
But oh, look at there. A jump. That boy should have picked that. He did the same thing there. So you see reads the quarterback's eyes very well. Man, that's really good that he does that.
And like I said, they're trying to just run him off. Did he pick that one? I can't tell. I don't think he did. But anyway, I mean, he, you know, running the fade on him, he runs it better than the receiver does.
Same thing. Look, same exact thing there. He breaks that pass up. Um, you know, might be better to stay away from him. Kind of like Deion Sanders. Look how he jumped that right there. Wow.
They try to throw the little bubble and he gets up there and breaks it up. Here he is up tight.
Look at him reading the play there. He just sits back there and reads it. Was that a fumble? I don't know. But anyway, I don't know if it was or not. I think they're calling it. But anyway, it don't matter. All right. There he is up top.
Tight coverage on this guy.
And you know that's one good thing, too.
he can come up and play tight because he knows you can't outrun him, you know, uh he can turn and run with anybody. So, look at him there chasing this guy all the way across down the middle. I mean, look at that good coverage. Then they try to throw it to him and he's right on him. Quarterback makes a really good throw there, but uh he is right on him.
Catelyn was right there. Look at there.
Same thing. He that's not his man. He's supposed to be on the outside, but he reads that quarterback and comes off and and and breaks that pass up. It looked like maybe quarter coverage there. I don't know for sure. I don't want to rewind it back. Mess up my computer.
Here's trying to go deep on him again.
Look at him. He There's just nowhere for that ball to go. He is right on it. Uh here he comes right here. Tackle the quarterback. Like I said, he in that good play right there. He goes low. Uh but he'll come up and get the job done.
He's got some emotion. And you'll see him. He's uh here he comes right here.
Like a little missile coming through there. Boom. Good job there. And it's right. He stops the first down right there. Makes it third and short. Good play right there.
Watching the quarterback reading his eyes. Reading his eyes. Comes up. Helps on that one.
I don't remember this one here. Yeah, a little screen. Here he comes.
Boom. Finish it off. Wrap him up. Wrap him up. Strip that ball. Try to knock it out. When some game wrapped up. Come there and knock it out.
There he is coming and his his buddy missed it. Teammate missing. He comes out with a knocks him out of bounds there. Good hit. Where's he at? Here.
There he is.
Really tight coverage. He is all over that receiver. I mean, just flat all over him. He's return man right here.
Kind of stretched him there, but good speed, you know. Um, good speed there.
And boy, that right there when you're a coach and you see your defense all swarm in there in the middle, you boy, you hold your breath. They're lucky right there. Catlin couldn't get the corner.
They had a pretty fast guy there, too.
And had had a good angle on him. But man, when your kickoff team all gets in the middle, gets all bunched together.
Oh, that's bad. Here he is getting downhill fast, you know, and he's not fluffing. Watch him. Boy, when he gets open open space, you hold your breath. He can really go.
All right. My computer did good. I'm surprised. Proud of it.
All right. Now, I'm gonna get out of that here. And uh I don't guess I can click on that. But anyway, there's Catelyn right there.
John Catlin. We'll zoom in on him there and finish video here. And can I do that or no? Maybe not.
There's my thing. So, I'll just stay right here. But anyway, that's in my video. I'm gonna cut it right here. Hope y'all enjoyed it, man. I'm going to tell you, John Catlin, the fourth, heck of a player. This kind of player we need to compete in the SEC. 61 corner. Uh, man, 442 speed return man. Holy moly. Help you on kickoff team right away. You can put him to the safety position on kickoff and he'll be good. Um, man, just a great player. U really excited. Like I say, this is the kind of player we need at Arkansas. He will help our coverage teams and special teams. And, uh, man, I really like this commitment right here.
Really, it's really good. You know, usually you get corners that are 44, they usually are 52. They're 52 around 44. But he's about 61. And you see that's what he puts. That's where I got it. 6167, I think, is right here. And that's where I got all those numbers I was showing you earlier. And um so in some places 247 says 5'11, but either one that's that's NFL prototype size.
5'11 or 61. Both of them are really good. So uh man, super good corner here.
I'm really excited. You see him and you know your secondary is going to get better when you're recruiting players like this and getting commitments. And that's like I said, that's all I got.
But I appreciate you watching. Thanks for spending time with me. I hope you enjoyed it. If you did, please give me a thumbs up. Please uh subscribe to the channel and then u you know, click your notification bell. That way you get notified when I make more videos. I promise I'm going to make at least one more, maybe two, depending on how the day goes. And uh because I got a lot to do today, but I'm going to make at least two, if not three. Um so I'd love to have you come back, watch some more, and look at some other videos. I've broken down, I think, every one of Arkansas's commitments in football so far. also their offers in basketball that Coach Cal has offered. I've broken all of them down with video breakdowns similar to this. So, you want to check out any of them, just search for them on my channel or send me a message down below if you want me to do one I haven't done. I do that as well. A lot of people give me names and I break them down. I think I broke down 20 European big man players in college basketball. Um, you know, off of names that I was given. So, uh, so I love doing that. But anyway, uh, that's all I got, guys. Um, I appreciate you watching. Thanks for spending time with me. I hope you have a great day, great evening, whenever you watch this. And, um, as always, go Hogs.
