WHY? - Two Days Non-Stop Concrete PourAdded:
The Canadian winter is fast approaching and this bridge replacement project in Northern Ontario needs to pour its concrete before the frost sets in. This is a critical moment for Miller Northern. If the deadline is missed, the pour will be delayed until the spring.
This means pouring,00 m of concrete over just 42 1/2 hours.
That's 141 loads of concrete.
>> It's a massive job. It's going to be the longest fully integral post tension bridge in Ontario when it's done. I'm pumped. I'm super excited for tomorrow trying to get ready for this placement.
I mean, it's been a year and a half of planning to get us to this point. You just want to get going and, you know, see this to the finish line.
>> And it begins.
First one down. Lots more to go. The weather's great. Looking good for a pork.
We're starting night number one. Very smooth transition. Yeah. So, the guys had about hour and a half overlap. You know, crew coming in supported the crew that was working. Go home to come back at her tomorrow.
>> 700 p.m. Let's go.
One of the most important aspects of this job is the continuous flow of concrete trucks.
Miller is leveraging their own nearby concrete plant to ensure consistent delivery, keeping the project on time.
>> So, as one truck leaves, the next one pulls under and it's just a continuous flow and it just continues like that for the next 30, 35 hours.
When we're dealing with structural concrete, there's a lot of very strict requirements that we have to meet. So today we'll be testing concrete on site and we have to meet temperature requirements, air requirements, and slump requirements and all the specifications.
Batch is good. Dream team of testing here. I think we'd win the concrete Olympics if we were to to enter them, but you know, we keep that to ourselves.
Last truck all done.
Been about 48 hours since we started.
Placement's all done. It's a big breath of relief. guys knocked it out of the park. I'll put these guys up against anybody. It's just unreal what they can accomplish.
There's still work to be done on this project, but for now, Miller Northern can take a moment to appreciate their accomplishment before they gear up for the final phase of the project.
