[00:00:12][music] >> So in episode 510, we've got this meth lab bus W. Gilpin built for us and Mark Freeborn designed for us.

[00:00:31]This is the equipment from the first half of season 5 that Todd took. Right.

[00:00:36]This is This is the same equipment that was used in the mobile Vamanos pest control setup.

[00:00:42]And they made a deal with Todd. Sold the equipment and Walt bailed from the business. A lot of the uh elements are found. They use a kitchen mixer to mix the chemicals. Everything has to fit through a 30-in hole where the trapdoor is in the front of the bus.

[00:00:59]Mark Freeborn is uh a mix between Santa Claus and a Hells Angels biker. And in a show populated by characters in front of and behind the lens, Mark Freeborn is a character par excellence. The overall effect is to create a sinister, shadowy, uncomfortable, unsanitary environment compared to Walt and Jesse's very sanitary, very safe, very clean method. Towards camera, roll rack two.

[00:01:29]Okay. So Laura, I'm going to say on action, I'm going to cue the dirt to come down. Okay? Then I'm going to say bullet. All right? And then we'll probably do that a couple times.

[00:01:43]It's fantastic. They've done details.

[00:01:44]All the windows have to be plexi.

[00:01:46]Um and what they've done is they've done graffiti on the windows and you have the dirt is held in plexi behind the windows. Are they ready for me, Anna?

[00:01:53]Michelle MacLaren directs action better than anyone I've ever worked with. The shootout happens off camera.

[00:02:00]And that kind of drove Michelle MacLaren crazy. When she read it, she said, "Why can't we see the shootout?" I said, "Well, cuz that's not the way we want to do this one. We want to play it through the point of view of Lydia Rodarte Quayle as she hears gunfire going on above her." She says, "Yeah, but can't we see a little bit of it? Can't we cut away to just a little bit? Can we see a little little bit?" And I said, "No."

[00:02:20]We're in on a on a bus [music] on the stage and there's not really a shootout going on up above. But the actors in the scene by themselves [music] and you want to help create the setting. You don't want to just go dirt, bullet, [music] bang, bang, bang cuz that's not very good for the actors.

[00:02:38]Dirt, put your head down.

[00:02:41]Look up, Laura.

[00:02:42]Look at the shell.

[00:02:44]Bang, bang, bang.

[00:02:49]I was really intimidated to come on, but at the same time I was so delighted to get such an amazing part and luckily I could just dive into that character.

[00:03:04]AND HEAD DOWN. BANG, BANG, BANG.

[00:03:07]And hatch. So I get into it, you know?

[00:03:10]It's like bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.

[00:03:17]Bang. Bang, bang. One of the many things I love about Michelle is that even when she's reined in, she will still find a way to milk those moments and and and hit those hit those high notes. Cut it. And Great. Great. Good stuff, you guys.

[00:03:39]>> [laughter] >> Despite the fact that this set has been on camera for a grand total of 2 and 1/2 minutes, it's a link in a chain that tells a story. And the best storytelling is with a complete chain.
