Olaniyan’s journey effectively dismantles the myth of a monolithic West Africa by highlighting the profound linguistic and cultural nuances of this Lusophone enclave. It serves as a sharp reminder that shared regional borders and currency do not equate to cultural uniformity.

Guinea Bissau is nothing like I expected, My first Time in Bissau as a NigerianAdded:
born there from Guinea Bisau. That is how they say good morning in Portuguese.
Guys, we made it to Guinea Bisau. And today we'll be stepping out to explore this country. Let's see what it looks like.
So, basically, we just going to be exploring to see what life looks like around here. The people, the vibe, the neighborhood, the houses.
Let's see how it feels, how it looks different from every other places that we've been to. What makes it stand out from every other places? So, we are in this neighborhood right here. This place feels like the outskirt of Bisau because we are in Bisau right now.
We'll be going towards the city center now.
to see what we can find around. They still have a lot of old houses in this part of this house. This house is really beautiful.
This is one of the few modern houses I've seen around here.
When it comes to trees, they've got a lot and more of these around here.
Like they have so many trees around, >> especially mango trees.
I think they like mango a lot here in Bisau.
All the houses will be so so dusty because the roads are not t and this place happens to be the first country that we are visiting that they are speaking completely different language. Yeah, most of the countries that we is either English or French but this is how they speak Portuguese and it's very complicated communicating.
Even to buy ordinary basic things around here is very very complicated.
It's a real struggle. It just remind me of when I just got to benet.
So it's either you use sign language to communicate. Maybe you want to buy something. You just have to point at like this is what I want to get or you use translate though. But even translate system is not that helpful because majority of people staying on this like this part that we are staying I don't think they are really learned like that because they can barely even read. So basically what I've been doing since yesterday is anytime I want to get something I want to talk to someone especially when I want to get something I just go online search for the thing show them the picture that this is what I want to get. If they have it, they will say no. If they don't have, they might point me to another direction, another shop that I can get it from.
That's a real stress. I cannot imagine me leaving here or planning to relocate to come and live here. So, we at this road now where we'll be taking a car to to the center area.
I don't know people communicate with car driver. What is it called?
Clean.
We already heading towards the roundabout to meet up with the person that will be taking us around that'll be showing us around.
I just sit on the building.
>> Oh, this is right.
>> I think they have a lot of post gallons around here.
>> Just like Gambia.
This is like one central area cuz it's very We made it to this roundabout right here where we are waiting for the tricycle.
And let me show you what it looks like.
This place looks really busy. And right here we have this joining us today. We have Elvis here.
He's a genian in Visa and we are at guard during our stay here in Visa.

>> Toa.

>> The most the cheapest, right?
>> Yeah, that's the cheapest. This one here is the most expensive one.

>> So many products.
>> Really?
>> I cheese, milk.
>> Okay. They have a Is it a mall?
>> But a very big one.
>> Very big one.
I think both of spellings.
>> I find it interesting the way they spell your business enterprise.
I think we are at the market already.
Just this part looks really busy market.
Oh, nice. Can I just hear you say I should take care of my phone? Very well.
>> Okay, don't worry.
I'm from a country that whatever it is I have here my country that's the real thing I cover my phone >> okay >> so when you get to this market >> you got to be careful hold your phone very well hold your valuable very well so they don't carry you and carry your valable so here we are welcome to Bandandy market in.
Is that like guys? This is 12.
>> Okay, that's fine.
So, we dropping somewhere here and explore the rest of the market in our leg.
>> We want to get pineapple.
>> 2,500 for one pineapple >> for the big one. And the small one that's 2,000 230.
>> Okay. So, that one that you just caught is like 2,000, right? Make it my own.
Okay.
>> But if you want a piece, I can ask for the price.
>> How much is a piece?
>> 100.
>> 100 for one piece.

Linguist my site too is the cheapest >> I think that's what we call title saddening yeah at my place we call it sadin I think what do now scarf I think it's table cover >> that's not clothes though that's like table cover that look like a clothes >> where will your where will you put your neck The way the person hanging it look like a clothes but if you look closely is a table cover they have a lot of cash here but I'm not seeing cash not I'm still waiting to get to this part of the market that they sell a lot of cashew nuts.
