High pressure systems create sinking air that suppresses cloud cover and warms temperatures, while increased moisture from the Gulf of Mexico combined with atmospheric instability can lead to thunderstorm development, particularly on weekends when weather patterns shift.

Chicago weather: Summer-like weather returns this weekAdded:
Back to your first alert weather now, and a live look outside. Sunny blue skies right now, and it'll be even warmer tomorrow.
>> Chief Meteorologist Albert Ramon is in the weather sphere tracking the rising temperatures and a storm risk later this week, Albert.
>> Yeah, thunderstorm chances increase, Eric and Joe, as we head towards Friday and Saturday even comes in with a chance of strong storms, but we can thank the blue skies and dry weather with high pressure sinking air that's suppressing cloud cover development. That's going to warm temperatures up even more tomorrow, and the return of upper 80s in the forecast. Thursday into Friday as that high expands and gets a little bit stronger across our area. So, here's what we're tracking. A little bit of an active weather pattern late this weekend as we head into the weekend. Next two days look to be dry. Next three days featuring a big warm up as we go low 80s for tomorrow, upper 80s for your Thursday and Friday. Dry Wednesday, dry Thursday. Friday though comes in with a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially late in the day, late afternoon, and evening time.
We're really going to start to load up in the moisture department. We have actually some of the more humid air mass headed this way that we haven't seen in several months. So, noticeably much more humid by Friday evening, and that extra moisture in the atmosphere being pumped in from the Gulf. That's going to allow for at least a chance for some heavy rainfall on Friday evening.
And then as we head towards Saturday, the ingredients are coming together.
There is enough instability, enough energy in our atmosphere that it's thunder, it's lightning, and even some gusty wind. So, there's at least a strong thunderstorm risk as we head towards the afternoon time on your Saturday into Saturday evening. We'll put the timeline Saturday 2:00 to 9:00.
Just an early heads-up. It's not a big severe weather risk, but I know a lot of you have outdoor plans on Saturday.
Watch out for cloud-to-ground lightning, and because that extra moisture is going to start to load up in our atmosphere, even some heavy rainfall will be possible. So, your outdoor plans at least on Saturday look like they could be impacted by heavy rainfall. Overall, better chance of outdoor plans as we head towards Sunday with smaller chance of rain only down to around 20%. Here's a look at the 7-day projection on rainfall total. Half inch plus across the area widespread. There could be be some pockets of an inch down to the south of I-80. Here's high pressure now.
It continues to build as we head towards tomorrow, and Thursday, and Friday, and then it backs off just enough as we head towards your Friday afternoon. A line of disturbances to come in, and that's going to increase these rain chances late this week. 60% coverage here late Friday. 60% coverage of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. We'll drop the rain chance to 20% for Sunday, and also to Monday. So, here's a look at the forecast. We're down into the low 50s for tonight. We're in the low 80s for tomorrow. Bright sunshine back in the forecast. 88° weather on Thursday and Friday. 84 with that chance of thunderstorms late Friday into Saturday.
And then 81, only a 20% chance of rain as we head towards early next week. A few more storms in the mix next Tuesday.
We'll send it back to you.
>> Thank you, Albert.
