Tornado intensity is classified using the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale, where EF4 tornadoes have winds of 166-200 mph and cause catastrophic damage; meteorologists forecast severe weather by monitoring Gulf moisture, temperature, and wind patterns to predict tornado, hail, and flooding risks.

Jed Castles' Saturday morning forecast | April 25, 2026Added:
From the Bob Mills Weather Center, [music] Oklahoma weather expert Jed Castles.
Hey, there were tornadoes yesterday, [music] at least tornado warnings in our viewing area down around Pauls Valley.
This is over further to the east. This is going to be over near the town of Kiowa. This is from Von Castor. You know the name Val Castor, this is his brother Von. He's with us sometimes. He chases over in Tulsa and he was talking with Travis Meyer over Tulsa. You can see that to center part of the screen. That was a funnel coming down. He said it did make it to the ground. So, we had a tornado yesterday in the Kiowa area. This is going to be near McAlester and that's the video that he showed from yesterday. So, we had tornadoes in the state yesterday. Let's go back to the day before because pictures and videos were coming in from that tornado up in the Vance Air Force Base area. This is a shot from Ed. We'll just call him Ed because that last name I can't pronounce it. But, let's go to links one. Let's go and roll this in motion here. Watch this. Look at it. You know, we show this to you from one perspective. You see it, it looks a lot like that tornado that we had up near Braman. We had those little cones that were forming around the outside of it. Those extended cones, those were forming around and spinning around that main vortex. So, just fascinating. You know, we haven't had a whole lot of tornadoes in Oklahoma that were really picturesque. This one is certainly I mean, pictures were coming in by the thousands here in Oklahoma. But, as these views of this tornado just are absolutely breathtaking and this was again one of the biggest we've seen in quite some time. This was a large tornado and this turned out to be a EF4 tornado as it rolled there just to the south of Vance Air Force Base Base then went through that neighborhood right next to it. Let me show you the update on the path on that.
David kind of show you the path. Lacey and David right on track as that tornado was passing through. Lacey kind of drew the track and they're right about the same location.
This is the path of that tornado that went just past past Vance. Barely missed Vance Air Force Base. The southern parts of it did and then right through that neighborhood right there and then lifted north, came north. It was going toward another neighborhood right in here and then it stopped and kind of recycled and went back to the east before lifting right before the other airport there south and east of the Enid area. So, fortunately it did miss a lot of key neighborhoods, a lot of key areas, but did hit that one neighborhood there on the southeast side and in that area that it did damage EF4 damage was reported.
David was thinking this is a EF3, maybe EF4 and definitely right there on that level. Lots of high-end EF3 damage and EF4 damage reported within that neighborhood. The one that was up in Braman, unfortunately is out there in wide open spaces, so not as much damage to report. That was a big tornado that at this point reported as an EF1. So, the tornado we had there near Vance was an EF4. The last EF4 we had was up near Barnsdall. We've talked about that here back in 2024 and then the last EF4 in our viewing area was down in Maryetta. That was in April 24th of 2024. So, 2024 a busy year for tornadoes and we're seeing that happen again here in 2026.
Right now from space we can see cloud cover hanging in. That's Gulf moisture streaming back in. So, the moisture is going to come back in, be in place, will heat our temperatures back up and the possibility there for some additional severe weather is possible here later today. Right now we're 61 southeast winds and again our conditions right now reporting a mild start with our morning temps running right around 60, 61, 62 in some spots as mild air and southeast winds bringing that fetch of Gulf moisture back up into the state as it rolls back our way. The severe weather threat is going up. Tornadoes, wind, hail and flooding all are going to be possible. There might even be some high-end type hail out of this one that could be up to baseball, maybe softball size. So, be paying attention. This is going to be a pretty hectic day as those storms develop through central and move into eastern parts of Oklahoma mid to late afternoon.
When those storms develop, they will rotate. So, the threat there for some large hail, damaging winds. By this evening and tonight a lot of those shift out of the state and then by Sunday, this will look tomorrow morning, clouds still in the forecast, but the rain has moved out. So, for the morning marathon, think we're looking good for that. And then late tomorrow afternoon, more storms should develop along the dry line, more isolated to widely scattered in nature. Those could produce additional severe weather for parts of western Oklahoma. There's your threat today. Large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes possible. The tornado zone, large area does include a more moderate area through central and eastern portions of the state and large hail possible as well. Tennis ball size all the way up in Oklahoma City, maybe a few softballs in south central parts of Oklahoma. Some 80s all the way forward today and a good chance of rain and storms by mid to late afternoon on into tonight. Some 60s tonight and then warming it back up. Few more storms can developing in western parts of Oklahoma late afternoon tomorrow. There's 9-day, we're talking temperatures ranging in the 80s into Monday then 60s on Tuesday, 60s to near 70 on Wednesday and a cooler some rain chances all the way for Thursday and Friday.
