[00:00:00]Why are 80% of global suicides men? So, for those of you who know me, know that over the last 6 years I've walked across different parts of the world. I've walked across the United States, Oahu, and last year Costa Rica.

[00:00:15]And it has been one of the best things for my mental health. What some of you might not know is that before I walked across America in 2020, >> [music] >> I was planning on backpacking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. And then COVID happened and that shut it down. So, next month, starting on June 22nd, I'll be hiking in the Camino de Santiago from Santiago de Compostela to Fisterra, which is on the coast. Doing this for men's mental health, along [music] with creating a documentary series on men's mental health, discussing some of the challenges that men face, how can we help men heal [music] and show up better in society. This first episode is going to cover why men are in isolation. Why are 80% of global suicides men? Why are we losing so many boys? What are some of the causes of this? And how can we provide practical solutions [music] in community so that we can put an end to this. What does healthy masculinity look like? In the media, we're shown two versions of masculinity. On the one side, masculinity is these buffoons as characterized in a lot of TV shows like The Simpsons and Home Improvement. These are a lot of shows that I watched as a kid. And then on the other side, we see this version of [music] masculinity, which isn't right, that glorifies abusing women and cheating and doing whatever it takes to [music] get ahead in life, even if that means hurting other people. I'm not going to name any names, but I'm pretty sure you've seen on social media what this looks like. I was actually having this conversation with my friend Logan who runs a podcast called Dad Bods and Beards.

[00:01:43]>> [music] >> And we were talking about how masculinity, true masculinity, doesn't always show up as having six-pack abs and making six figures.

[00:01:53]Those things are great, right? But that is a very shallow version of what masculinity is. Anyway, [music] it's important for us to start having real, honest conversations about what healthy masculinity looks like. And for us as a society to create a space where men can process their emotions in a healthy way and start healing. Cuz I believe that once we start helping our men heal, we can start helping the rest of the world heal. But, the men need to step up and do that first. [music] Anyway, I could go on and on about this topic. I just launched my YouTube channel. I share a little bit more about my story and what I'm doing.
