The HF-010 is a portable vertical antenna designed for amateur radio operations, featuring interchangeable coils for different HF bands (5-18 MHz) and ground radials with banana plugs for easy connection. To set up for 40-meter operation, deploy the ground radials, attach the telescoping whip, and use a Rig Expert or Nano VNA to tune the internal coil slider until the SWR reads between 1.5-1.7, indicating proper antenna resonance. The antenna is easy to set up and tune, making it suitable for portable CW operations.

6-80 Meters Quick Easy Ham AntennaAdded:
Well, hey guys. Whiskey 3 Charlie Tango W3CT your good old friend Jack out at the park today. And obviously the title and thumbnail gave this one away, but I'm showing you a new product. The new product is going to be a new filled antenna that we are going to be using today to do this activation.
And I'll tell you a little bit more about that and my little dilemma I just fell into right after this.
All right, guys. There's always got to be a dog at the park. Always has to be.
I mean, it's just that's the way it should be, right? Anyway, whatever. Uh, so if you hear some barking, there's a little dog, right?
Yeah. Yeah. He must not like me too well.
Anyway, my dilemma today is actually, you know, that keyboard I showed on one of my recent videos, uh, with the little stand and I got my little phone in there. Well, that keyboard takes double A batteries, which I thought I left him in the car, but I must not have. I left him at home in a different radio bag. I just told my wife this morning, I said, "Look, hun." I said, "Remember when going to do pus was simple? I had one radio. It was very, very easy to do. I had a wire antenna. I threw it up in a tree and I wrote everything on paper.
Well, I can still log with my phone today, so that's good. But I can't use the keyboard, which that's all right. I mean, I've done it both ways. Anyways, so what are we talking about today?
Well, my friends over at Radio uh sent me this antenna. Now, I know you guys have seen them on a thousand YouTube channels already. The only difference is Radi Audio asked me, they said, "Hey, we know you're a CW op." And the other folks that's been shown this antenna has been shown on sideband.
Can you set it up, tune it up for CW and do some CW contacts with it? And I thought, wow, that's a great idea. So, uh, they did send the antenna out, uh, to me as a demo. So, we're going to go ahead. I'm not going to walk you through it right now and show you. If you want to see that later, put in the comments below.
so I can show you each part of the antenna, but there's 100,000 videos on YouTube already. My thing is is I want to tune it up and use it on CW and this morning it is uh it's about 5 till 9 Eastern Standard Time. So, I hope to get on 40 meters. All right, so anyway, let's go over here.
Dogs still barking.
Did you ever notice the little dogs make the most noise? Yeah. So, first thing I can do is figure out how to get into the box right here.
And I have a handy dandy screwdriver. I don't really see where it's taped. I guess on the edges maybe going try to untape it there.
Yeah, maybe.
And uh this box is really super taped up. You love my uh and you're going to say, "Jack, that's a Christmas uh tablecloth, but it's a park tablecloth."
Uh the wife gave it to me and told me to go ahead and use it.
I said, "Okay, I will."
All right, that wasn't too bad. All right. I haven't even had obviously had this out of the package yet, right? So you see that it has not even been open yet.
First thing I got to tell you, it is extremely heavy.
So we do have that going for it.
Band conditions today. I left the house and I look Do you guys look at band conditions? I know. I just seen my buddy Mark or Ditwit. I'll put his channel right here. There you go. So Ditwit was out the other day having a hard time at it. So, yeah, it's radioity.
All right. Nice case, though. Beautiful case.
Open her up here.
It's very, very heavy, guys. And in here, obviously, you have, and like I said, you've seen this before. There's coax that comes with it, the ground radials, a water bag to hold the tripod mount down. I thought that's cool. It comes with a uh tape measure.
And here's the antenna in all of its glory right here. Okay.
So, my plan is to get it set up today, tune up for 40 m, and get underway with my activation. So, let's see here. Looks pretty straightforward.
All right.
Somebody said this was really hard to get off and they would be correct. There we go. Okay. So, that's the ground spike. All right. So, obviously it has a um a telescoping whip.
There's the tripod right here. Okay.
Then it has the antennas itself. Okay.
With the coils. Here's an extra coil for it. Okay. We're going to be doing 40 meters. So, we just need to have this coil on the antenna right here. Okay.
See, it says 5 through 18. So, we should be good with just this coil on here to get on 40. All right, guys. Let me put this together and uh get it in the ground here and then um I'll tell you what, I'll bring it I'll bring you back when we're tuning it. I'll be using the rig expert to get it tuned up on 40 m and we'll get underway.
All right, guys. I may actually give you a little demo of putting this thing together. Um, the directions are not really super clear, so I kind of winged a part of this. And I hope it's okay to do so.
Let's see here. I just got to get my ground radios out.
All right. Here's my ground radios.
All right.
the radiating radio out of here.
Uhhuh.
All right. So, I'm thinking of doing is we're going to put in the ground right about here. I guess if you guys can see this. Okay.
Right about there.
All right.
You tune it right here. So you can see this. You know what? I'll show you the tuning when we go to tune.
How about that? How about we do it that way?
All right.
Try to get you closer here so you can see what's going on. I do like the ground radials. The ground radials themselves have uh little banana plugs on it. So that is really super cool to have those on there. I'll show you one here. Uh, we are recording. So, see it has banana plugs on them and there's three individual ones here.
So, like I said, you've seen these on other channels, but not this one. Let's go and put the telescoping whip. This is an amazing whip. This I've never seen a whip that solid. If you can see how big that is, how thick that is.
All right, let's see here.
Again, like I said, the band conditions are not supposed to be great today, but there's many days I go out fishing and uh I don't know what the fish are doing.
Make sure you don't cross thread anything. Again, uh thanks to Radio Audit for sending the antenna out for uh for a demo here with CW.
A lot of configurations you can do with this antenna. It's really super cool.
It's also neat that the coax and everything is in here. I mean, it's a complete system. It is, let me say it again, it is heavy. So, when you unroll these, there's actually markings on here. Can you see that, Mark? So, they're pre-measured. Okay. But being I'm on 40 meters, I'm just going to kind of roll it out here.
All right. Let's plug this one in.
All right.
Sure. Everything's tight.
Just going to roll this out.
All right. And it's marked on each one.
So I'm guessing all the way out is probably probably measured for maybe 80, maybe 40. I don't know. Cuz you know what, guys? I didn't do I didn't read the book. We're just going to go with this here. See if we can't get it to tune on 40 meters today.
All right. Second radio.
into the second plug here.
I do like how the ground radios work. I can already tell you that they're not even as long as And you just leave the little spindles just on there.
Okay.
Just leave the spindles on there.
I do like these. I might do something like this with my other antennas for the ground radials.
So, still getting over this cold ground is really wet, but there's no wind, so that's positive.
All right.
So once you set this up a couple times, I think the setup will be very, very quick.
All right, let's see now if we can tune this without really looking at anything as far as the manual.
All right.
Also have to get underway cuz there's rain coming today.
So, I got everything fighting against me here today.
All right, let's get my handy dandy handy dandy rig expert out here. Okay, in the beautiful case.
Okay, go connect the other side of the antenna up here. watching my ground radio, which I don't want this going over the ground radio. The coax, I think I'll put the coax over there.
Like that.
All right. Now, bring so we can see if we can get this thing to tune. Okay.
You bring it all the way in here. So, you can see the sliders on here. So I'm guessing if you look at this and I guess it has an internal coil is what this is doing. Okay. Just like if the Wolf River coil has the outside coil. This is all internal.
I don't see if the book gives me a starting point here for 40 m. And I didn't bring my glasses either. So I didn't bring batteries or glasses.
All right.
Let's see.
Telescoping whip. Okay, so I can measure the whip out.
Probably should have did that.
Oh, full length for the whip. Okay, that's cool. Good. So, that's fine.
Um, all right. Doesn't really tell me anything as far as the the way to set that up as far as So, I guess we're going to wing it.
That's why you have to have either a nano VNA or a rig expert.
We're going to set for 7050.
Okay.
The SWR right now is showing me 18.
So, we know that's not right.
Okay. So, I'm going to adjust the slider up here.
3 point 3 3.9 13. Let's go the other way.
4.3 1.6 2.6 Okay, let's go back up a little bit.
6.3.
All right.
So guys, if you can see this, I'll bring you back over there.
It's showing me 1.5 to 1.6.
I can live with that.
If you can see this in the glare. I don't know if you can see this or not.
Let me try to show you here.
Hopefully you can see that. 1.7. Okay, which I'm good with right now. That's fine.
All right.
So, I'm going to try to do now is get the radio set up and see if the 1.7 is going to help me or work for me. Anyway, we'll see what happens here. All right.
So, with that said, yeah, we're just going to leave it at that and go for it. All right. So, I will let you know after I get it up on the air how how well it goes.
Okay, guys. So anyway, the new radio vertical, the HF-010 is a hit. Okay. Worked very well on 40 meters for my activation. I had uh 20 CUSOS and here's a picture of the map right here.
So there's the map of the uh CUOS itself.
And uh yeah, so even the first time setting it up, it was extremely easy to set up. I'm really impressed with it. It was very easy to tune.
Like I said, I just want to make sure I don't step on any of the connectors here. It was very easy to tune.
Know why my microphone is not working here with the DJI action. So, it's easy to tune set here. What I'm going to eventually do, I think, is I've seen another guy do this. It was pretty smart. He keeps a little log book of where his settings are so he can tune it quicker. Okay. So, right there is set for 40 m. So, um it will with the other coil, as I said, it will work with 80 m.
So, there's the coil right here. It's 5 through 18. Okay. So, 40 m. I had this coil on. Uh but yeah, works very very well. Very easy to use.
And uh I'm pretty happy with it. Again, uh Radio Audit did send this out as a demo. Just letting you know that. Keep that very clear. I didn't purchase the antenna. Uh and they they never talked to us about um you know, we don't have to give like positive reviews. Some of the Chinese companies, they want to say stuff like you must give a positive review before you even receive it. How can you do that? You can't. It's not fair. It's not right. I wouldn't tell you to buy it if it wasn't worth it. Um, now I will be doing more testing with it obviously, but right now I can say uh for this activation it worked well and uh you've seen it from the map. All right guys, well take care. My uh microphone here is not working again for some reason.
I think it uh loses connection whenever you change batteries or it's really weird. All right, well take care everybody. I hope you have enjoyed this video of uh the radio audio oddity radio oddity radio oddity HF-010.
So there you have it. I'll talk to you next time. Thanks for watching. This is Whiskey 3 Charlie Tango W3CT your good old friend Jack out here at US409 right before the rainstorm. I got to pack up and get out of here now. Uh so my equipment doesn't get wet. We know we don't like wet equipment. So, there you have it. 73s everybody. And if you're not subscribed, why not click that subscribe button? Give this video a big thumbs up. I would appreciate that.
And I will talk to you next time. 73s.
Hope to catch you on the airways. I'll talk to you next time. Enjoy your radios, guys. And I'll see you then. Bye for now.
