When traditional rock breaking methods fail on construction sites, expanding chemical agents like Expando can effectively break hard granite rocks by drilling holes, inserting the chemical, and allowing it to expand and crack the rock, providing a safer alternative to blasting near residential areas.

Granite be gone!Added:
Hi, it's Thursday. I'm back on the job.
I was on this job on Monday.
Uh then had to have two days off do some other stuff and uh got a few bits of granite here.
So on Monday, I drilled these two rocks, this one and this one, and I loaded them with the expanding chemical cracking agent, the Expando.
And that's done a sterling job.
I just cleaned all the residue off so you can have a good look at the brakes.
These are uh big jump. These are mighty large rocks as you can see.
I didn't really want to blast in 2 m deep holes with a neighbor living next door. So, opted to bust them with expando, pull the pieces out, and then downsize them.
Guy next door is having a fun time. He's been cing there for several days trying to get post holes in for the retaining wall. That's the side I blasted a few weeks ago. And there's another one to do up there.
That's just all happening at the moment.
Anyway, today's mission is to drill this one and drill that one and that one down there.
Uh, it's got to get in deep because uh, they didn't tell me when I came here, but there's actually a swimming pool here.
Yeah, always the way it goes. All right, stay tuned and more fun to come.
Heat. Heat. N.
So, it's Monday. I'm back on this job and the second lot of rocks I put the goo in have cracked up pretty well.
Pretty happy with that. I'm a bit late starting this morning, so I had to go to the airport, take some to the airport before work.
And uh they've had a bit of a go at pulling some out.
I've um managed to get one face off here and uh try over here and pull the tooth off the bucket because there's no ripper. Who would have guessed? Anyway, um so we've gone straight into blasting while we're waiting for a ripper and a breaker to turn up. Uh, this first shot against the back fence has just 19 holes in it.
And I'm pretty sure that'll do the job real well.
All right, 19 hole shot. Here we go.
That was very effective shot.
I'm happy with that.
Survey pegs are still in place.
Getting ready for the next one.
Just uh 10 holes in there.
Uh 600 by 600 pattern, 800 mil deep, 10hole shot.
The last one was remarkably effective.
And here's the next one. Just eight holes.
So, I'm under the pump right now. Uh, most of this rock is pulled out. This is a bit of an update for you. Still a few bits to be worked on. Uh, this bit here seems to be very problematic.
He's slowly chipping through it with the breaker. It's a rental breaker.
points already destroyed after one day, but uh it's pressing on and I'm currently working on the oversized down here. I'll give you a closer look. So, this is all the pieces that got yanked out and I'm drilling them to split them with uh more expanding grout.
They're far too big to load or do anything with some of them are in very difficult positions to also carry on.
Okay, so this bit is stuck and uh I drilled three holes in the side of it down near the bottom and put some bang and stuff in those holes. So, we'll hit the button on it.
Okay, >> that one's moving.
>> That's moving. That's good.
That's better than before. Don't like the mud bucket being used for that, though.
I think you should try the ripper.
I think you should use the ripper before you bust that mud bucket.
I'm just thinking if I move all that, he's going to get in your way for the other one.
>> All right, just four holes over here and this troublesome bit.
>> I want to make a move.
So, we had a shot here late yesterday and uh we'll just stick it out and see uh see how we went. Didn't really jump up much. Bit worried I might have just blown through the bottom of some of these bits of rock, but I guess we'll find out fairly soon.
I see some broken rock. That's good.
That one goes down quite deep.
Heat.
Heat.
Take a lot of go.
not Sure. Why this guy doesn't like using the ripper?
Yeah.
Use the ripper and the curl function.
Beautiful.
Excellent.
So, I'm starting to get a few cracks from last night's fill.
It's the last thing I did yesterday.
I expect they'll all open up today.
Just got to move some of these pieces now so I can get to this rock underneath which has got the holes drilled in it.
So, I can blow that one up.
Just a little seven hole shot in here so we can uh clear the rock for the drains to go through for the plumbers.
You ready? Want to stay there.
Hi, it's Saturday morning. I'm just sneaking in a little sneaky 15 hole shop for the plumbers so they can get their pipes in.
Uh yeah, stay tuned. Okay, 15 hole shot.
It's looking good.
Lots of broken rock.
It's always hit or miss doing these little trench shots, shallow ones. It's such a fine line between getting it all out and shooting the stemming on every hole. It's really easy to mess up.
Don't feel bad if you've messed up one of these. Everyone's done it. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
And we just got a fourhole shot behind the separator there.
Hi, it's Monday morning. I'm back at um Yukon site. This one I've dug out all the rock from the past few shots and um after I've left, I've dug out the remainder of the pool.
That was the last shot there. Just three holes.
Fixed that one up and I got it all out.
It's been a lot of hammer work on this one, too.
Uh, looks like the pool's done.
I'd call that done. Machine's gone.
I think I'm done here.
Let's have a look at that oversized out the front there.
So, I put some more expando expanding grout in this one last week.
That's done the job.
That's liftable size now.
There's no machine here to lift it. It must be coming back though because the break is still there. Or maybe that's a rental breaker. Yeah. Okay.
Um, well, that's done. Plumbing's in.
Pool's done. I think I'm done at this site. So, thanks for watching. It's been a bit of a uh bit of a long one this one. long and drawn out.
And as I arrive here this morning, I noticed there's an Earthlift machine working over here.
And I hear the familiar metal on rock sound.
So, I'll probably be going over there soon as well. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned. And um please like and subscribe.
Heat.
