[00:00:02]It's time for your statewide Alabama weather cast.

[00:00:10]>> I am meteorologist Eric Coles with the Alabama Weather Network and this is your afternoon forecast update for this Tuesday, June the 2nd and uh we're certainly a lot calmer right now than we were this time yesterday as we had storms starting to move into North Alabama or kind of move through North Alabama at this point, but you can see uh nothing of the sort happening today so far. We've got some nice calm conditions across North Alabama. A few more clouds towards the south and a few lingering showers there on this boundary uh moving into parts of Montgomery towards Phenix City. Do expect we'll eventually see some more thunderstorm development here probably the next hour or two along this boundary in South Alabama, but as it continues to sink further to the south, the chances of any more rain in the northern or kind of north of there is probably quite a bit less, but maybe a few lingering showers.

[00:00:51]So again, we'll be watching South Alabama for some thunderstorm development this afternoon, but right now things are looking pretty calm out there. As we take a look at our regions, Skycam Network in Florence, again had some rough weather there and pretty much across most of the state yesterday, but uh much calmer 74° dew points were in the upper 60s. We've seen the moisture level come down just a little bit in North Alabama so far, but we'll expect to see more of that as winds are out of the northeast around five and that'll help to from that direction bring in that uh slightly drier air in for the next couple of days. Moulton sitting at 81°. Still pretty warm out there, but again slightly lower dew points. So it's 62 in Moulton, that's not too bad for this time of year. Winds are out of the north northwest around seven there in Huntsville we're at 76° at top Monte Sano and again the winds are relatively light up there, but looking back towards just some milky skies there with some blue mixed in with some of the high clouds. Section beautiful view as is typical 77° is your temperature on top Sand Mountain and uh gorgeous view looking back towards the Tennessee River and Guntersville Lake there. Region center downtown Birmingham few more clouds around some little puffy cumulus it's 80° already there. So again, we're still pretty warm, but not quite as warm uh in spots compared to what we ended up seeing yesterday in many in many places.

[00:02:02]See, the winds are out of the north there as well, around 8 mph, and dew points are down a little bit in central Alabama compared to previous days. Mount Cheaha looks great, 71° at the highest point in the state. Still, winds are relatively light there, but a little bit of a northeasterly component there as well. Mobile, where we get all the way down to the coast, it's 85° there, so certainly still pretty warm, and the dew points were still in the mid-70s right along the coast. It's going to take a little bit longer to get that less humid air into that part of the state. And again, we won't get quite as dry down there anyway, overall, but you can see we're actually getting a little bit of a northerly component of the wind in Fairhope, but I think that may just be more of a localized sort of situation with the wind there.

[00:02:42]81° is your temperature, looks nice there at the pier. So, here's the key messages as we move through this week. Spotty showers today in the especially the southern part of the state, and there could be a rumble of thunder mixed in with that.

[00:02:54]Um there might be a strong storm, but it's not looking super likely at this point.

[00:02:57]We'll look at the modeling here in a bit. Dry though as we get into tomorrow through Friday. Really nice stretch of weather for June that we're going to be seeing for the next several days of lower humidity, slightly lower temperatures, some fairly cool mornings in a few spots, and then weekend showers could kind of creep back into the forecast. Still looks relatively calm, but start to see a little bit more moisture trying to return as we get into the weekend. Skywatcher reports from this morning, so again, some of the places in northeast Alabama started to cool down a little bit already. Black Creek there, Vic Bell, one of our typical cool spots got to 63°. Brent White in Morris, 66. Kim Letingham in Alabaster, 67. Wallace Williams in Cottondale, 68. And Bud Bean in Northport hit 70°. Temperatures right now though have rebounded into the 80s in many spots. You see, 83 in Troy, 82 in Greenville, a little bit cooler there along the east of those. 75 in Eufaula, 77 in Auburn. Again, we're seeing a little bit of those lingering showers and some cloud cover in those areas. 86 in Dothan. So, it's still going to be another pretty warm day across the South, not quite as warm in the north, but still you see 83° in Huntsville right now, 82° in Florence. Again, the the humidity is down a little bit in some of those spots. A few of those spots in the far north are actually a good bit warmer than this time yesterday, that's because the storms were already moving in dropping the temperatures. Most of the rest of the state though is actually seeing cooler temperatures versus yesterday where we got well into the low 90s in many spots.

[00:04:13]So, it looks like we probably won't be quite as warm this afternoon maybe as we got to yesterday afternoon. Dew points are still again pretty high to the south with 70° dew points or higher in the especially the southwestern part of the state. You move to the east and to the north though, they're starting to come down a little bit and you can see again we got a little bit of a northeasterly component and slowly we'll see the more kind of humid air erode a little bit as we head through the day today and into tomorrow especially. Highs today we expect again to be generally be in the 80s across good portion of the state, a little bit cooler to the north and we still could reach 90° in a few spots in far south Alabama in Andalusia, Dothan, Chatham, places like that could certainly still hit 90°. Lows tonight we expect to be a little bit cooler in the north as that drier air filters in we might hit upper 50s in places like Cullman, Gadsden, some of those other cooler pockets in northeastern Alabama.

[00:05:01]Starting to see those 60s move pretty far to the south as well. So, we might have mid-60s down in Andalusia, Geneva, Dothan, maybe low 60s there in Eufaula.

[00:05:08]Speaking of Eufaula, it's also within this level one marginal risk for severe weather for today. So again, we've got that boundary sagging to the south, drier to the north, really no storm chances to the north of that, but in southeastern Alabama we could see it a strong storm or two. Once those storms develop this afternoon and evening, but certainly don't expect the same kind of issues that we saw with widespread tree damage and and issues we saw yesterday.

[00:05:30]This is not going to be one of those kind of days today, but we'll be watching those for maybe a couple of stronger downpours and some lightning and and maybe some gusty winds at times. So, let's take a look at the Futurecast here. So, as we move through the rest of the afternoon you start to see some showers beginning to form. Again, the models have been kind of backing off a little bit on the potential intensity of this. We've got a a little bit of a meso high sort of leftover from the storms last night. We still got a little bit of residual cooler sort of sinking air that could help to keep a lid on things for the most part, at least a little bit longer than you would expect otherwise. But, few showers starting to form by 3:00 p.m. Maybe a few heavier showers in southeastern Alabama. And then maybe a few ones down there in Mobile and Baldwin counties as well. But, generally again, it just looks like the intensity will not be quite certainly will not be what we saw yesterday, but there are still could be a few around as we get into the evening in southwestern southeastern Alabama. Then things quiet down as we get in the overnight period.

[00:06:23]And then into tomorrow morning and again you see those nice temperatures in north Alabama to start off. Looks like it'll be beautiful tomorrow. We'll see highs maybe upper 70s in some spots to the north and to the east. Drier air moving in and really no chances of rain for tomorrow afternoon. Looking really good.

[00:06:40]Same thing for Thursday. We expect to start off pretty cool across a good portion of the state. Maybe some upper 50s sneaking down in the south Alabama for Thursday morning. Beautiful afternoon on Thursday. Highs in the 70s and low 80s. Low humidity for this time of year. Just hard to beat that. And then Friday afternoon looks or Friday morning looks calm. Friday afternoon looks nice as well, but we might start to see some little bit of a warming trend at that point.

[00:07:04]And some moisture will start to feed back in as we get into the weekend. So, won't won't get a those pleasant mornings for that long. You're never going to see those stick around for too long this time of year for sure.

[00:07:13]Rainfall outlook. Again, we're not expecting a whole lot in most of the state for the next week with us moving in this drier pattern. But, southern part of state still could get you know, over the course of the day today mainly another half inch or so in spots, but we're certainly not expecting much in the way of heavy rain for any duration of time at least.

[00:07:31]Northern half of Alabama 7-day forecast.

[00:07:33]Again, just a maybe a spot shower, especially kind of in north central Alabama. But, most places are not going to see anything more for the rest of of day today. It'll just be a nice sunny, a little bit more comfortable day highs in the low 80s. Again, you can see the look of the next couple of mornings lows down into the 50s and in many spots across North Alabama. Really comfortable, nice weather for June especially Wednesday, Thursday, Friday upper 70s, 80s, a little bit lower humidity. But again, as we get into the weekend small rain chances we're kind of introducing those back in a little bit because the models are starting to show a little bit more moisture creeping back in kind of flip-flopping for what the solution that they had been showing. But we'll see the temperatures kind of bump up a little bit more but it'll looking a little bit more like a a standard kind of summertime pattern as we head into the weekend and early next week. And for the southern half of the state again a little bit better chance of some scattered showers and a few thunderstorms around for this afternoon and evening for far south Alabama. And there might be a few lingering showers in southwestern part of the state early tomorrow but generally things calming down looks really good Wednesday, Thursday, Friday lows down upper 50s, low 60s a little bit cooler for this location and time of year. And then again, as we head into the weekend we might start to bump those shower and and storm chances back up a little bit. That's your Alabama forecast update.
