The Most Violent Fight in Invincible HistoryAdded:
We're covering the conquest fight today and the entire episode. If the last video was about how mid the season was, this feels like the story really getting back to it. Like, yeah, the conquest fight happens, but we have the start of the Viltite War. Debbie and Nolan finally talking after the pet incident.
Oliver meets Nolan. Eva is still pregnant. Everybody is doing what they need to do in this episode. There's so much emotional death. Seasons of buildup finally paying off. This is all I've been waiting for. This is all I wanted.
And thank God it is because that last episode was horrible. protein tubes with that white sauce.
>> We start right where the last episode ended with Allan and Nolan returning to Earth and convincing Mark to come fight in the war. He doesn't need any convincing though because the Vilturemites are coming. He knows this.
It would be super dumb not to go cuz if the coalition goes up there and they lose, what is Mark going to do? Fight the Vilturemites by himself? And who's going to back him up? A cricket? The Guardians? No, brother. No business baby will handle this one. It's just it's just not happening. He has to go. But the first troubling aspect of this episode happens when Nolan is like, "Thank you, Mark, for joining my space rebellion." But before I go, I would like to talk to my former pet or your mother in simpler terms. He didn't say it like that. Everybody is looking at him like, "Don't do this. Why would you do that? You got Mark. He's like a super duper filter right now. Take that W and leave. Why do you want to go down there and complicate things?" But he's like, "Guys, I have to go talk to her. Don't you remember my iconic panel? I miss my wife. I did that. That was me." And they let him go since he's so adamant on doing it. But Mara's like, "Is this for you or for her?" Think about it as he carries his therapist away. Oh, Eve, my father is back. My life. Eve, my life.
Nolan's issue over the course of this episode, I guess, is that he thinks he can get back to a similar sense of normaly on Earth, but everybody is still very afraid of him or very angry with him. And I guess he never really thinks of that. And obviously, he has changed.
He's not under the same viltite programming anymore. He cares about the Viltromites, but he knows they got to go, them and their mustaches and gullets. But people still need time to figure that out for themselves. They haven't seen the episodes. They don't know what's going on with him. For all they know, he's coming in for round two.
Debbie, you were never just a pet. You were a more like a toy. I just came back to Earth to say that. And I'm going to kill Oliver. They don't know if he's not going to do that again. They haven't seen him since he left. Like, if I lived in this universe, I would have a heart attack seeing that man descend from the sky. And who's to say the Vrammites aren't with him. I don't want Conquest screaming, "I'm so lonely." as he divebombs me from the sky at 3 billion miles hour. This universe sucks, bro.
This is no way to live. I don't know how they sleep at night. But Nolan doesn't get that. It's not clocking to him yet.
So, he goes to visit Debbie and I can feel the tension through the screen. I had to wrap up and covers to watch this.
I saw Debbie in the doorway like that. I I had to pause the show and pace for a second. This is no good. This is a bad position to be in. Then she leaves the door open and walks away like like Jack Baker. I'm not going in that house. I'd rather get into a cage match with two Ragnars than go in the house. What's that song that's been trending recently?
The one that goes, "I think I'm going to die in this house." That's all I'm hearing right now. There is nothing in there for me. I am scared. He goes in and starts yapping about, "Oh, I'm sorry. Didn't mean to call you a pet."
And I can't even pay attention because Debbie is hunched over the table, hitting the pose, clearly charging up her alult. She's not feeling anything coming out of his mouth right now. He's basically giving Debbie the rundown of how he's changed. How he wants to make things right. But after a while of him talking, I'm like, "Oh, she's doing the thing. The thing where you wait for somebody to like slightly mess up with their words so you can use that as a launching point of rebellion. A linguistic allout attack, if you will."
And sure enough, it happens when he says, "I would like to repair the damage I've done." Or something like that. And she repeats it slowly. "Repair the damage," Debbie said calmly. "Ref, it's game over." She's mad. She hates the apology. And the fact that he's about to take Mark to war where he may die, that thing he does all the time. Everybody knows he can't fight. He literally died in the first battle. Who else but could accomplish that? And another thing, she's wrong. He's not taking one, he's taking the cricket, too. Double homicide.
You need to >> hold on gang. I'm just making sure that we're all on the same page. She's like, Nolan, what do you really want? Cuz you can go now. You can get out of my house that I paid for with my money, not your little bucks. And I would have been honest. I would have been like, I have come back to harvest my rice fields once more as the space lands have bored my broken soul. Now, obviously, she wouldn't go for that, especially not the way I put it. But he does want to get back with her. That's really why he's here. I miss my wife and all that. But Debbie is not even in the headsp space to consider any of that. He really did a number on her life. And now if Mark and Oliver don't come home, that's it for Debbie. What What does she have? Do you remember how she spent season 2 walking around like a zombie going to groups and stuff? It was bad for Debbie. It was.
And as much as I hate it, she's just now getting back into dating. And here he comes flying down from the sky talking about I need pictures of Spider-Man. And then she brings up the bug lady and that whole thing. And he says that was a mistake, Debbie. Which was like the worst thing to say at that moment. He's doing terrible out there, bro. It's like watching every single speech check fail in Fallout. And he finally just says he missed her. And she starts losing it, punching Nolan until she breaks her wrist or something. Debbie, >> the acting is phenomenal. And then she says, she says right after that, she says, "Am I still your pet?" I would have messed up real bad here. I mean, if you want to be, I don't know.
>> The whole operation is a blatant failure. Definitely one of the best scenes in the show, though. I've waited years for this moment, and I am not disappointed. After that, we meet Tech Jacket, who is a girl now.
We're going to come back to that in a minute. She's down to go to space, though. That's all you need to know.
Mark goes back home and talks to Debbie about the war and he has to go. Neither of them has any objection. And the only issue is when Oliver comes home and realizes that his estranged father is on Earth and hasn't bothered to visit him.
Straight up didn't do it. And Mark is like, "Maybe he didn't mean anything by it." No, brother. He denies my cricket origins. He denies me this war. And now I seek the destruction of Omniman. Zeus, your cricket has returned. Oliver is really mad about that. All that glazing he did and received no benefits. No dividends, no stocks, no returns, nothing. Nolan even went to talk to that one guy. He went to everybody except the one person that still likes him. That's crazy. And despite this, Oliver still really wants to go to war. And they can't even argue because they're all in danger right now. They're killing Oliver first. He is everything that they don't stand for. He has purple skin. He glazes. He's a cricket. Everybody wonders why Conquest is trying to kill Oliver so bad. He's worth double points.
So they have a goodbye dinner and he is there.
>> Zake.
>> Yeah.
>> And then Mark and Eve, we got to we got to see them.
>> Do you want to just repeat what you just said?
>> I I said here's your pink drink and what else is pink? It's not >> That's so gross. I know what that means.
>> Okay. It's just a question.
>> No, you winked at me.
>> Yeah, because you didn't know that our strawberry cake pops are also pink.
>> No, that's not what you meant. I know.
So Mark is leaving in the morning. This is a very fast process and they are very chill about it. I need to reread the comics because Mark and Eve's relationship is so tame in the show.
It's like they were more interesting when they were friends cuz overall they did get more development. In the beginning of the comics, Eve was Mark's very first superhero friend for a while.
They were a team for a minute. A lot of that stuff was cut or minimized from the show. There was this part in the comics where Mark and Amber visited Eve in Africa because she made a a mansion. She went out there to flex on the locals. I made that last part up. She wouldn't do that. But but damn, bro. It feels like so much is missing from them. But it should pick up in the next season because things start happening. Horrible things. The next day, Mark and Oliver are getting ready to go. Nolan and the gang are getting very impatient and they don't know Oliver is going. And speaking of Oliver, he's acting like he's about to go on a crazy wacky adventure. He has a suitcase. He has games, books. Debbie even gave him homework. What may be his final days. She's giving him equations.
This must be the influence of Paul.
But Oliver is just he's saying things that are getting to me. Debbie tells them to come back safe and Oliver is going to open his mandibles to say, "Don't worry, mother. I will keep Mark safe." And literally 10 minutes later in the episode, >> mix that through. That stops it from sticking together.
>> And Oliver is nowhere to be found. He's talking right now. It means nothing. And Paul is still there. Why is he always there in the background? lurking. They finally fly to the ship. Oliver hasn't been to space in a minute. So, he's looking at this rundown ship like it's GTA 6. Until Nolan shows up and says, "Send him back to Earth. Why is he here?" And Oliver says, "Shut up, Dad.
Silence from you. You're cut off." He's really angry about the not visiting thing. And now he hates Nolan, too.
Again, he did terrible. He went zero for four. And Mark says, "Father, if you want your family back, your will will have to be."
Tech Jacket is the last to get there.
And with everybody on board, they can finally leave. And this scene right here had me worried. Tech Jacket in the comics is a guy. I think older, too. And I really don't care that they switched it because Tech Jacket doesn't have that big of a role in the story. It's not that deep. But I always wonder like when it comes to gender swaps and race swaps, especially in animation, what makes them look at certain characters like we need to change things. We need to completely redo this. Think about it like this.
Look at the screen right now. If you have me in your pocket while you're at work and not doing your job, what makes them go keep it, keep it same. What is this? Oh, this won't do. We're going to need to change the chromosomes and add some bangs. That'll get him to watch the show. Could be that he's just a second chance at doing the story. Maybe the writer of the comic is like, "Damn, there's things I would change." Like Debbie, for example, Debbie doesn't have this much character in the comic books.
She's kind of just around. And there's Ray, too. Like the original Ray in the comics is nothing. Bro is just the tiny guy and now he's Rex's girlfriend, which it was. But maybe Tech Jacket is going to be more important to the story. We'll see. But before this season ended, I had a worry cuz it kind of looks like they're alluding to a Tech Jacket Oliver relationship. And this is going to be a slight spoiler if you want to skip ahead. I'll put a spoiler thing on screen right now. Just skip ahead until that's gone. So later on in the story, Oliver marries a bug. And I was like, maybe they're gonna put Zoe and Oliver together so they don't have to animate the bug wife. I know that might sound crazy, but the animation in Invincible is some of the funniest animation I've ever seen. Dare I say the funniest animation I will ever see. Of course, they wouldn't make an entirely new relationship to avoid animating a single character that's barely around. But it's the fact that I can't say they wouldn't do that for certain just based on the show so far. The quality that could happen and that's mind-blowing for me.
And again, no way that would happen. I really hope the gender swap thing means they're going to have Zoe in the show more than Zach was in the comic.
Otherwise, what's the point? Time passes on the ship and we get another musical montage scene with everyone on the ship.
And I sure wish I could have seen this fully. If only we didn't make a full episode of filler. Maybe we could have saved some of that yap for this scene right here where Oliver, Mark, Nolan, Tech Jacketellia are all in the same place. But no, we need to go to hell and talk about Mark's feelings. Sometimes I hate loving the show.
>> Protein tubes with that white sauce.
>> Zoe goes up to Telly, right? And she's wondering if the ship is picking up the multiple danger signals, the alarms that her suit is picking up. And Telly is like, "Well, this vessel is an unreliable one. We leave our fate to the cat." Everyone is scattered in space.
Mark finds Oliver floating around along with Alan, Nolan, Zoe. And Mark slowly turns around and realizes the danger they are in.
I find it so crazy that Ciso almost fumbled the entire war before it even started. We got to kill him. We really might have to kill him. Conquest is going to look down with a straight face and say, "This is what happens when you don't finish what you started, brother.
You came to Earth. You started this. You knew what was going to happen." Is he actually surprised that Mark fought back? He's been trying to kill the Viltites since the very first time they met. They're playing with me right now.
This whole episode, this whole season is rage bait. Oliver charges Conquest. He's been saying crazy things like, "I fought Conquest. He hit Conquest one time and got his teeth knocked out." This is the state they found him in. And Lukan gets in the way of Mark following. This is not season 2. He is father now. Oliver gets smacked away. And to his credit, he's mixing Conquest up a bit, but he gets caught, of course. And Viltice just love using the same moves till Nolan tags in. And it occurred to me while I was watching this episode that there was probably a lot of people who wanted to see Nolan fight conquest. Maybe all three of them jump in conquest, but that never happens. But seeing it all animated like this, they should have been jumping in. The fight we do get is great, but it goes by a little bit too fast. Alan is fighting the vulture of Zoe, and this isn't their moment.
though. They just kind of fumble around in space until the episode ends. They could have let them kill one. Like, damn. Nolan and Conquest start talking and Conquest is like, "Nolan, oh, this is a glorious day. I can't wait to kill you and eat your cricket son." And you know, the animators are so happy that they don't have to animate the mouths.
Every time they go to space, they probably do a backflip. They can just have PGs over a space background. You know, they're giggling over the computer making this, bro. And where's the budget going? The hairline, the impact frames, the filler. Oh, the filler. But Mark comes in hitting Conquest screaming, "I killed you." And Conquest goes, "It was mostly your like god girlfriend." And plot armor, of course. And that is true.
Mark should have died. Oliver is knocking Lukan around a little bit, and he's really going to use his special move on Oliver. Oliver of all people.
He's having that much trouble. But Nolan saves him. And now they're playing with that man until these space guys show up with laser guns. And Lukan just jabs Oliver in the stomach. So he needs to breathe now. So Nolan sends him to a nearby planet. and he really should have followed him cuz Mark is over there finding conquest and he says, "Are you going to tell me your deepest feelings again?" I only tell those things to my pookiest of bears. It was in confidence.
And then he sees Oliver flying down and immediately goes after him. Brother, the way he pops up behind Oliver.
Oliver has to go back home. He's not built for this. I don't know why he came out here. He's not ready. This man was almost disintegrated at a moment's notice. If Mark hadn't shut off, >> how was he going to get out of this?
>> That's the neat thing. You sink.
>> Yes.
>> Now Mark and Conquest are flying and Mark makes another promise to Conquest.
Tells that man that he's never breathing again. And Mark's promises do have some power. He just needs to be specific. In the first Conquest fight, he told him that he wouldn't live to see tomorrow, which technically was true. He didn't see tomorrow, but he did see the next 6 months. But I think this new one will do the trick. Mark is actually not letting go of Conquest and Conquest is starting to panic. He's slamming Mark, punching his ribs, his face, but Mark is eating all of that. He tries flying off and they're hitting all sorts of zigzags.
And the entire time he's punching Mark in the chest, but he's not letting go.
And I know the vill can hold their breath for a while, but you cannot have somebody's hands on your neck like this.
Mark is straight up cutting off the circulation to his brain right now. He is running out of time. And he knows this. So what does he do? He impales Mark right through the chest, through the ribs, through the organs, through the spine, everything. And I can't even show most of the fight after this point because it's just Conquest ripping out Mark's intestines. They cut the music and everything. It just goes on and on and on in silence mostly. I remember reading this for the first time being sick flipping through those pages. I cannot believe that they are doing this to Mark. For me, when I look at all the things that Mark goes through, this is the moment that sticks with me the most.
He can't do anything back this whole fight but sit there and get beat.
Conquest is throwing him around, destroying his ribs, puts a hole through his chest, and Mark has to sit there as Conquest's hands are just taking his insides out. It's even worse this time around because there's sounds. Mark's wheezing and crying. Cecil is so cooked if this is me, bro. I would be completely traumatized by this to the point where if any villain even attempted to punch me in the stomach, I would just pop their head off.
Flashbacks. Can't do it. They got to go.
But eventually, Conquest dies and Nolan and Oliver show up right as it's over.
I'm just staring at them like right as the fight is over. You couldn't find him. Look at the destruction, bro. You didn't hear this? You couldn't see it.
