Roland-Garros 2026 - Martin Landaluce on Rafa Nadal: “I Try to Learn as Much as Possible From Him”Added:
[music] >> We'll go straight in.
Matt.
>> [clears throat] >> Hello.
>> Well done. Great fight today and a good great tournament for you.
Um what do you think you learned this week about competing at this level on this big stage?
>> Many many things.
Uh I think the the most important one is that I have the the fitness to be as many hours as I need in court.
I can play 6 7 8 hours without having issues, without having cramps.
I think I'm really prepared to play the these these kind of tournaments.
And this is giving me a a lot of confidence, a lot of power for the next Grand Slams for for all my career because I can think I think I can be really powerful.
I can play 6 hours almost with the same level.
And I think that's the the most important thing I I learned this this week and and many many things about my game, about my improvement, about the players who can do really well here. And yeah, but that that is the most important one.
>> Can I also ask you? I mean, I know you can play that long. In the ideal world, you're not going five sets every match.
Are there things that you think about um where maybe you had opportunities and things you wish you did a little differently?
Um I mean, everybody feels like they don't want to miss a shot, but in terms of being bold, taking the initiative, anything like that that you think maybe you could have saved yourself from from getting into such tight moments in these first two >> Of course.
Many things many things in these matches.
Uh I did some mistakes.
Normal mistakes and uh the first match I had a lot of opportunities to to make it on three sets, four sets. In the fifth set it could could have gone 6-1. So, I know what I have to improve on those moments.
The second day I started the first two sets really bad.
Not the not with the energy I wanted.
And today I had some sets where I was break up.
I mean, yeah, break up. And I could have done things uh different, but I think above all my my intention was the correct one. I played my game.
I did good shots, good serves, good returns.
I was moving really well. So, the things I can improve there are many. So, it's this is very positive. But I think I demonstrate myself that I can be very stable, very solid through all the the the match and the matches. So, I think that's more important that other things.
>> Did you have any contact with Rafa during this week?
>> Uh Khachanov?
>> Uh no.
>> Nadal?
>> Nadal.
>> No, not on this tournament.
In in some he he sends me a message. We talk.
There were some like in Jeddah, he was there personal and we talked some, but not on this one.
I think maybe he he texts me something.
Maybe not this week, but on on the tournaments I do well and hope he's watching some some games, some matches. It would be perfect for me and try to learn as much as possible from him.
>> And then my last question, do you have much experience on grass?
>> I mean, two seasons.
The first one junior, I did pretty well.
Won a lot of matches and I did I won two tournaments or two or three tournaments and I did a semis on Wimbledon. So, I think I can play really good. And last year uh every tournament I played I was playing better and better. Uh I won one match in the first one, two match in the second one, three match in the on Nottingham. And Wimbledon I did pretty well. And I think uh my physicality is much better right now. So, I think uh it's going to be a pretty good season. I I really like playing on on grass. So, good things uh can happen there.
>> You feel like your game works on grass?
>> Yes, for sure. I mean, I think uh my game works on on every surface.
I don't want to be cocky. I think I'm improving a lot. And if you improve, if you work every day to to be better on on each surface and and and your game improves, you can be good in all areas.
Um I have nothing to not improve. I can improve on everything. So, I have um huge potential, I think. And on grass I I will do good. If not this year, I think yes, but um in the next years.
>> Okay, thank you very much. Well done.
>> You're welcome.
