Every Prediction About Jesus Returning Has Failed — Here Is Why | Carl Jung

[00:00:33]Every single person Jesus was speaking to dead for 2,000 years and Jesus still has not [music] returned, which means one of two things.

[00:00:47]Either Jesus was wrong or the church has been lying to you about what Jesus actually said for 2,000 years.

[00:00:57]Carl Jung read Matthew 24 and stopped completely because what Jesus was describing had nothing to do [music] with the sky, nothing to do with clouds, nothing to do with a physical return, something else entirely, something the church buried so deeply that 2 billion people are still looking at the sky for something that was never going to come from there.

[00:01:54]The disciples asked Jesus, >> [music] >> when will these things happen? What will be the sign of your coming?" And Jesus [music] answers. He describes wars, famines, earthquakes, false prophets, the sun darkening, the moon not giving light, [music] stars falling from the sky. And then verse 34, "Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have happened." This generation, in Greek genea haute, this generation, the one right here, right now. [music] Not a future generation, not people living 2,000 years later. [music] The specific generation of people sitting in front of Jesus [music] when he spoke these words.

[00:02:43]Now here is what makes this historically devastating. [music] Biblical historians agree that generation lived approximately 30 to 40 years after Jesus spoke these words. 40 years maximum.

[00:02:58]The temple was destroyed in 70 AD.

[00:03:01]Jerusalem fell. The Jewish world collapsed. And Jesus's disciples, the generation he was speaking to, witnessed all of it and then died. Every single one of them without seeing Jesus return in the clouds, without seeing the Son of Man coming, without seeing anything the church has been promising >> [music] >> for 2,000 years.

[00:03:32]If Jesus said this generation, and [music] this generation is dead, what exactly is the church waiting for?

[00:03:41]Now here is what the church did [music] with this problem. Because it is a problem, a massive one. Jesus said this generation. That generation died 2,000 years ago, and Jesus did not return.

[00:03:55]So, the church [music] had three options. Option one, admit Jesus was wrong. Impossible. The entire institution [music] collapses.

[00:04:04]Option two, admit the church misunderstood what Jesus meant.

[00:04:09]Dangerous. 2,000 years of prophecy books, [music] sermons, entire denominations built on the second coming, all collapse.

[00:04:18]Option three, redefine the word generation. And that is exactly what the church did. Suddenly, generation [music] did not mean generation. It meant a type of people, a race, an era, an age, every possible meaning except the obvious one, the people standing in [music] front of Jesus when he spoke.

[00:05:44]The Pharisees asked Jesus, [music] "When will the kingdom of God come?"

[00:05:49]And Jesus answered, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful [music] observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."

[00:06:18]If the kingdom of God is within you, then the coming of the Son of Man is not an external event. It is an internal one.

[00:06:39]The Christ consciousness, the specific quality of inner transformation that Jesus embodied, coming alive within a human being.

[00:07:22]"I will ask the Father and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.

[00:07:28]Another advocate." Not, "I will come back myself." Not, "Wait for me to return from the sky." Another advocate, the Holy Spirit.

[00:07:40]"Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My father will love them >> [music] >> and we will come to them and make our home with them.

[00:07:49]Make our home with them. Not I will descend from clouds to establish a physical kingdom. Make our home >> [music] >> inside the person present now, immediate. Verse 28, you heard me say I am going away >> [music] >> and I am coming back to you. I am coming back to you. Not I am coming back to earth in 2000 years. To you, the specific disciples sitting in front of him that same night.

[00:08:20]Jung read John 14 and said Jesus was not describing [music] a global event visible to every human being on earth.

[00:08:30]He was describing an intimate [music] personal return to the specific people who loved him through the specific inner transformation that loving him produces.

[00:08:41]And the church took this >> [music] >> intimate personal promise and turned it into a global spectacular event that has never happened >> [music] >> in 2000 years. Jung worked with a patient once that he never forgot.

[00:08:56]A man 61 years old. His entire life shaped by the second coming.

[00:09:03]He had grown up in a family that believed Jesus was returning within their lifetime.

[00:09:08]His parents had not saved for retirement, not invested in their future, not planned beyond the next few years because Jesus was coming back any day now. [music] The man came to Jung at 61. His parents were dead. No inheritance, no savings, no plan. And Jesus had not returned.

[00:09:30]He said, my entire family gave up their future for a promise that never came. My parents died waiting. My childhood was shaped by waiting. Every major life decision was made around waiting, and I am 61 years old, still waiting for something that should have happened 2,000 years ago, >> [music] >> according to the man who promised it."

[00:10:00]"What if Jesus was not asking you to wait? What if Jesus was asking you to transform?" [music] The man went completely silent. Young said, "What if the second coming was never about waiting for Jesus to arrive from outside? What if it [music] was always about Christ arriving inside?"

[00:10:21]The man broke down completely, not from grief, from the specific devastation of someone who just understood that he spent 61 years waiting for a train >> [music] >> that was never coming to that station.

[00:13:02]And here's what Jung said about this pattern. He said the church gave you a second coming that requires nothing from you. Just [music] wait. Just watch the news for signs. Just calculate the dates. Just look at the sky. And while you were waiting, while 2 billion people were looking at the sky, the actual second coming was happening inside human beings who stopped waiting for Jesus to arrive from outside and started allowing Christ to be born within them. The transformation Jesus actually described, the kingdom within that Jesus actually promised, [music] the specific inner revolution that requires not waiting but dying. Dying to the false self, dying to the certainty that kept you comfortable, dying to the version of yourself that needed Jesus to come from the sky because [music] it was too afraid to allow him to come from within. Jung documented what happens when a person stopped waiting for the external second coming and starts allowing the internal one.

[00:14:13]First, the specific relief of someone who has stopped [music] carrying a deadline.

[00:14:19]The specific exhaustion of end times thinking dissolved.

[00:14:24]The constant checking of news for signs, the constant calculating of dates, the constant anxiety of is this the generation? Is this the final sign? Is Jesus coming this year?

[00:16:36]The second coming is not a single global [music] event, it is a personal one. It happens differently for every human being at a different moment, in a different way, through a different form of darkness, but always the same result.

[00:17:20]In the specific moment their [music] full self collapsed. In the specific moment their certainty failed. In the specific moment they stopped waiting >> [music] >> and started surrendering to the specific inner transformation that Jesus was always describing. [music] When he said, "The kingdom of God is within you." Not, "Look at the sky."

[00:17:46]Young gave his patients one final [music] practice. Not a theology to replace end times theology. Not a new doctrine about the second [music] coming. One practice.

Every time you catch yourself looking at the sky, stop and ask one question. What is trying to be born within [music] me right now? Not, "When is Jesus coming?" What is trying to be born within me?

The specific anxiety of end times thinking dissolved. The specific exhaustion of 2,000 years of waiting dissolved. And in the space left behind, something arrived. Not dramatically. Not with trumpet sounds.

[00:18:51]Not with clouds and lightning and rapture. Quietly. The way birth always happens. In darkness. In pain. In the specific vulnerability of something new coming [music] into existence for the first time.

[00:19:07]Young said, "This is what Jesus meant when he said the son of man is coming, [music] not a global spectacular event, a birth, the most personal event in human [music] experience happening inside a human soul that has finally stopped looking at the sky [music] and started paying attention to what has always been trying to arrive from within. Jesus never said he was coming back. Not in those words, not once.

[00:19:47]That generation passed away 2,000 years ago.

[00:19:52]And what he said was, "The kingdom of God is within you." Not in the sky, not at a future date, not after a trumpet sound, within you.

[00:20:04]And what he said was, "We will come to them and make our home with them." Not "I will descend from clouds to establish a physical kingdom." Make our home inside the person, now, present, immediate. [music] Young spent 40 years trying to say one thing about [music] this. He said, "The second coming is the most misunderstood [music] promise in the entire Bible."

[00:20:35]Not because Jesus was unclear, [music] because the church needed a spectacular external event more than it needed an intimate [music] internal transformation.

[00:20:47]Because a spectacular external event keeps people waiting, [music] and waiting people need the institution.

[00:20:55]But a person who stops waiting, who turns completely inward, [music] who asks, "What is trying to be born within me?" who allows Christ to arrive from within needs nothing the institution sells.

[00:21:11]2 billion people are still looking at the sky, checking the news for signs, calculating the dates, waiting for something Jesus never actually promised, while the actual second [music] coming has been trying to happen inside them this whole time.
