Happy birthday.
Thank you.
Heat.
Heat.
Hello and welcome to the 16th annual Dick Corbin Sports Award night. I'd like to welcome up our four wonderful um senior singers who are going to welcome our evening with the national anthem.
So, if you could please stand. Welcome Camila, Alexandra, Will, and Giovana.
Say you see by the dawn early light.
What so proud we held at the twilight last gleaming who brought stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight for the ramparts we were so gallently streaming and the rockets The bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star spangle banner yet or the land of the free and the home of the brave.
>> Great job. Great job. Great job.
Thank you, Camila, Alexandra, Giovani, and Will. That was beautiful.
Welcome everyone to our incredibly special evening. Tonight is a night that is all about these amazing athletes who are sitting before you tonight. We have an incredible night ahead and we're so excited to share that with you.
Seniors, tonight we gather in the same auditorium that you guys sat in for freshman orientation all those years ago. We all remember it well. I'm sure you do the same. During your time here at Milford High School, you guys have left a mark. You've left a legacy here at Milford that is only yours. We, as your parents, remember that day sitting here watching you, wondering what the next four years we're going to hold. And here we are, and we almost can't believe that it's over. It flew by. It went by in a blink.
Tonight is about the time you've invested, the dedication you've shown, and the way you've committed yourselves to your sports, your coaches, your teams, our town, and that incredible legacy that you've left behind.
Surrounding you in this auditorium tonight are those people. Those people who've helped you along the way. Your family, your friends, your neighbors, your coaches, your teammates. Take a minute to soak that all in. This room is surrounded by love for you and all that you've done during your time here at Milford.
If you're sitting in this auditorium tonight and you have coached these incredible athletes, whether it was T-ball when they were four years old or right up through high school coaching, could you please stand?
You guys have a lot of supporters here tonight. The Milford High School boosters and all of our volunteers are so excited to celebrate you tonight.
Tonight is not just about awards or scholarships, though we're excited to give those out as well. It's about being a senior Scarlet Hawk athlete and recognizing how important that legacy is. Tonight, we celebrate all that hard work, dedication, long practices, and everything that you've given on the field, the pool, the mat, everything that you've done. We are so proud of you. As I was preparing for tonight and trying to think what can I say to a group of Scarlet Hawk athletes in 2026, I just thought about what an special thing it is to be a Scarlet Hawk and how that legacy really follows you through your life. When you look around this room tonight, it really says everything you need to know about Milford. Look at the people leading this program. Look at the people up on stage. Look at your coaches, our guest speaker tonight. Many of them were Milford alumni themselves, and that says a lot about our town.
Being a Scarlet Hawk is something you should be very proud of.
Tonight, I'm not just standing here as your Booster Club president. You know, the annoying one who's been sending you emails at all hours trying to get your photos and you to answer my requests.
Thank you for for following through. I'm also the mom of a senior Scarlet Hawk.
I know that I speak for all the families here tonight that our hearts are bursting with pride for everything that you guys have done during your time here at Milford High School. When we walk you walk across that stage tonight in what is really the first big powerful event leading up to graduation, our hearts are bursting with pride for everything you guys have done here. You all have made us all so proud. We remember all those soccer games. They were all typically on the most freezing morning in fall and usually around 700 a.m. Um, but we remember them and we loved them even then. That was the beginning of your athletic journey. I can honestly say for myself and most of the booster representatives that our most memorable moments of you have been sitting on the sidelines watching you do what you love and succeed.
You probably don't realize how much you guys have changed in your four years because you've been living it. But we've been watching it. And what we see here tonight is remarkable compared to those timid freshmen we saw four years ago.
It's an incredible thing to be here to celebrate you all tonight. When my oldest daughter left Milford High School, I told her to spread her hawk wings and fly. And tonight, I'm going to say the same thing to you. Spread your hawk wings and fly. But never forget what you built here. Be proud of every practice you attended, every lesson you learned, every victory, every setback, every moment, good, bad, or ugly, that helped define you as a Scarlet Hawk.
Because being a Scarlet Hawk carries with it a very proud legacy.
Could I ask all my former Scarlet Hawks to stand, please?
Make you guys exercise.
See, you're surrounded.
Milford is a very special place. It's a place that shapes people and a place that stays with you long after graduation next week. It is going to be a place you will carry with you for the rest of your life.
And tonight's celebration represents that Milford legacy so beautifully. This evening is named in honor of Dick Corbin, Milford High School athletic director and coach, whose vision and dedication helped build the foundation for all athletic programs and opportunities that continue to thrive here at Milford High School today. When Mr. Corbin came to Milford, he was tasked with building and strengthening the district's athletic and physical education programs. But what he really built here was opportunity. As a former athlete himself, earning a football scholarship from NICT High School, he attended the University of Maryland. He understood how athletics could open doors and change lives. He became a tremendous advocate for helping students pursue scholarship and recruitment opportunities.
And something that deeply resonates with me is that Mr. Corbin was the father of three daughters.
His wife, Ruth Corbin, is here with us this evening. Mr. Corbin strongly believed female athletes deserve the same opportunity, support, and encouragement as everyone else. He was ahead of his time in this recognizing and championing equality in athletics.
Mr. Corbin also understood the importance of family. He was the proud father of three daughters. And after speaking with his lovely wife, Ruth, you could hear immediately the incredible pride she carries for her husband, his accomplishments, and the legacy he left behind in our town. From his three beautiful daughters to his eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, his legacy continues to live on, not just through his family, but through every athlete, every coach, every locker room speech that happens here at Milford High School. The presence of the Corbin family here tonight is a meaningful reminder of how deeply one person can impact a community. Ruth Corbin has attended every Corbin ceremony since his passing with the exception of the CO outbreak.
Tonight, we celebrate the amazing legacy your husband, Mr. Corbin, left in our district. Could you please give a round of applause for Mrs. Ruth Corbin.
Thank you and thank you for being here tonight to recognize all these amazing athletes. Seniors, it's almost time to celebrate you. We're getting there.
Before we continue with this evening's awards and recognition, I need to stop and thank the many donors, volunteers, families, coaches, and community members that make tonight possible. This evening happens because of you. You donate donate your time, your finances, and everything that we need as a district to make athletics come to light for these amazing Scarlet Hawks.
And with that, we will continue tonight's celebration. Bravo, Scarlet Hawks. Be proud. Be proud of the friendships you've built here. Be proud of the lessons you've learned. Be proud of crossing that finish line one final time. Milford High School is going to stay with you in the years ahead in ways that you can't even imagine yet. No matter where life takes you, a part of you will always belong here. And that Scarlet Hawk pride will always come home with you. Congratulations, class of 2026. We are so very proud of you.
I would now like to welcome Principal Josh Uland to the stage to recognize our National Honor Society athletes.
>> Thank you, Colleen. Good evening. So delighted to be here with all of you tonight to celebrate these outstanding young people. Um to all of our student athletes, I just want to share a brief reflection with you to build on what Colleen just shared. I hope it might make an impression on one or two of you.
If not, it will make an impression on some of your parents out there. Um it is uh it really blows my mind as someone who had the privilege of growing up in this community and com and competing at this school and playing sports. To be sitting here tonight with some of the people that I grew up with who've served as your coaches. I competed with many of your parents and aunties and uncles.
Some of your grandparents are here tonight who watch me play in sports as a young kid. My athletic director Nick Sakilia, my swim coach, Dave Chaplan, are here. For me, being part of this multigenerational community of athletics here in Milford has been a tremendous blessing in my life and I hope that many of you get to enjoy that going forward as well. I hope this is just the first part of a very, very long relationship with our school, this community, and Milford High School athletics. It's done a lot of good for a lot of people for a long time thanks to people like Dick Corbin and Nick Sakily. Uh you have been part of the recipients of that uh that wonderful legacy that they've built and we are going to need you to uh hang in and contribute to it going forward. So with that um it is my great honor to recognize the members of the National Honor Society of the class of 2026 that are here with us this evening. Students, when I call your name, if you could please stand up so we can recognize you.
Jack Anderson Abigail Arujo, Anna Arujo, Madison Adawong, Katherine Berentos, Angelina Bonina, William Brown, Dylan Burns, Ryan Burns, Andrew Cahill, Ethan Charzenko, Luciana Cruz, Danielle Darling, Danielle Dilva, Eli Deberos, Sunonny Dimony, Sullivan, Driscoll, Aiden Eastman, Ethan Feedler, Maline Hamilton, Emma Hoy, Caitlyn Kernan, Alexander Kerr, Addison Kucho, Nicholas Langu, Pon Isabella Lerbo, Julia Luster, Lauren Melpine, Anthony Mastriani, Joseph McGee, Kylie Merrill, Khloe Murdoch, Richard Nashawati, Riley Otul, Thiago Alivera, Antonio Padilla Munoz, Nadia Palumbo, Emma Redi, Talia Siri, Ike Shannon, Jason Stokes, Taylor Talamini, >> Lorraine, Vio, Jovanna Winer, Isabella Willard, and Maggie Zho.
To all of our NHS students, congratulations. You have represented our school, your families, and our community with distinction.
Congratulations and job well done.
And now, it is my absolute honor to introduce someone who truly embodies what it means to be a Scarlet Hawk. A proud Milford High School graduate from the class of 1997, Heather Johnson has dedicated nearly three decades to this program, beginning her coaching career here at Milford High School in 1999.
For 27 years, she has poured her heart into Milford cheer, building not only a championship team, but a lasting legacy of pride, discipline, and excellence.
Her accomplishments are nothing short of amazing.
2024 National Coach of the Year, seven state championships, four national championships, and most recently, our class of 2026 Grand National Champions.
Under her leadership, Milford has also earned countless regional league titles.
But what makes Coach Heather so special goes far beyond the trophies, the banners. Coach Heather is truly snow sometimes 90 degree while they support the football in the Friday Night Lights is not nearly what the Milford cheerleaders and coach Heather can accomplish. Her dedication, discipline, and hard work with what she does with her athletes on the mat is inspiring.
Long before Coach Heather was leading from the sidelines, she was one of our very own.
makes a lasting impact on her athletes.
Her legacy is strong. Her dedication is unmatched. And generations of Milford Scarlet Hawk cheerleaders have been incredibly lucky to learn from her leadership, her passion, and her example. Please join me in welcoming our amazing coach, Heather Johnson.
All right, I made it up the stairs without tripping. I think we're good. I was the most worried about that.
Um, I just wanted to thank Colleen, obviously. Um, I appreciate all the work she said. Um, I work just as hard as all the other coaches here and I'm just fortunate to have been able to do it for so long. So, thank you, Colleen, for your kind words. They truly are appreciated. I would like to start by thanking my family who from August to March see me little to none. From four to five practices a week to football and basketball games in season, then the weekends where I'm gone for cheer competitions, watching my team show everyone what they have worked so hard for. I don't spend nearly as much time with my family as I should, but they know that I love what I do, and for that, I am forever grateful. When I was first asked to be the guest speaker, I have to admit I was pretty hesitant.
When people hear cheer, they don't always say sport in the same sentence.
However, those of you that are thinking that, I encourage you to attend a cheer competition, if you have not done so, to see exactly what she talked about.
Friday night lights are not what we're all about. That is about a quarter of what their capabilities are. I would even agree with some that supporting our fellow athletes on Friday nights, they might not be a sport, but the true athleticism and athletes they are are shown at the competitions each weekend.
From stunting, lifting people in the air to tumbling gymnastics, they have just two minutes and 30 seconds to show you everything that they've worked so hard for. There are no four quarters, there are no three periods, just two minutes and 30 seconds. The hesitation I felt also came in the fact that I'm really not anyone special. I'm the oldest of three children to a single mom. I started working full-time when I was 14 to help my family. I didn't come from a wealthy family. I'm not the CEO of any big company like some of our guests have been in the past. What I am though is a mom, a daughter, a sister, a wife, a friend, and a coach.
I work as a kindergarten assistant at Memorial Elementary School. The exact place I met Yay. Go Lisa Burns.
The exact place The exact place I met my best friend actually 40 years ago in Mrs. Berelli's class.
I do not think I deserve to be up here any more than my colleagues. So, I will not spend too much time talking about my accolades or the team's accolades as they are forever stamped in MHS cheer history. From our state titles to our national champions, MHS sports are like no other. We come from very dedicated coaches to amazing athletes and unwavering support from our community.
Our school has had so much success from the endless championships of the wrestling team to the very first ever Hawk title for the boys lacrosse team, just to name a couple because we come from a long history.
I would be here all night if we talked about how awesome our program is and always has been. I will talk about, however, what I think makes me a good coach and why my athletes mean so much to me. I show up, plain and simple. As Steven Hawkins said, half the battle is just showing up. As a coach, I expect my athletes to show up every day, not only physically, but mentally as well. In turn, I show up for them, not only as their coach, but with time, effort, and energy outside of my coaching duties.
This is the 16th annual Dick Corbin, and I have not missed one. Showing up is so important.
I always try to ensure that they know at the end of the day, life will move on past athletics. So, being a good human is far more important. I want them to be present and show up. show up for their families, their friends, future work colleagues, and for themselves. Be proud of who they are and what they have put into the world. Life lessons to me that go far beyond any wins and losses. So, keep showing up. I will do that. And I encourage all of you to do the same. Be there for a friend. Be there for a family member. Be there for a teammate.
And be there for yourselves.
As my athletes will tell you, I've never been one to hold back my emotions. So, for me, showing up also means letting them know how much they impact my life and how much I care for them. Something I hope they remember as they're graduating college, getting jobs, and starting families of their own. I read something on Instagram the other day, author Unknown, and I think it encompasses what all of us as coaches hope for. It said, "Bad coaches tear people down. Average coaches chase results. Good coaches teach skills.
Great coaches build confidence. The best coaches change the lives of their athletes past the life of the game.
Something something I hold dear to my heart and I try to live by every day. As Colleen said, I'm in almost my third decade. Um, 27th year coaching here at MHS, and I think I finally have it down. I wish nothing but the best for each student athlete as they continue the next chapter of their lives. None of your books are written the same. Each chapter is unique and just as important. So, I want each of you to go out and write your own stories, live your own chapters, and continue to be the best versions of yourself. I want to end with a short excerpt from the motivational speech, Keep Showing Up by Fearless Motivation.
It doesn't matter if you can't see the top of where you are. Just know that if you keep climbing, if you keep learning, you can get to that next level. You will soon be exactly where you need to be. I hope that you all find the motivation to see where you need to be and get to exactly where you want to be.
I am thankful for all of the opportunities that I've been given here at MHS. The athletes that I've coached over the years have left a tremendous impact on my life and I hope the same for them me on them. Um I'd like to thank the booster club for having me. Um I never saw myself here. Um I s stood on this exact stage in 1999 uh excuse me 1997 getting awards. We used to do it a little differently back in the day, but getting awards over there and I never saw myself here giving this speech. So to be here today, I'm truly appreciative. Um, so thank you for the booster club for asking me to be here.
Thank you to interim AD Steve Dvito. Um, he's already dealing with the crazy differences of cheer and learning along the way. So I appreciate that. Um, thank you to the MHS admin and co uh, excuse me, teachers who continue to support athletics across the board. Last but not least, I'd like to thank my athletes What a ride it has been. I would not have changed anything except for maybe another four years.
Thank you to their parents for sharing them with me and for being so thoughtful.
Congratulations to the class of 2026. I can't wait to see the places you will go. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Heather. I would now like to welcome our interim athletic director, Steven Dvito, to the stage.
He's going to be calling off the names of all of our athletes and they will walk across the stage to receive their awards. I would also like to welcome Michelle Defonso to the stage. She will be handing a single rose in honor and memory of Dick Corbin this evening to every athlete. So, we are reminded of the strong presence of his Scarlet Hawk legacy here in our building tonight.
Oh, you can do that.
>> There's a lot of paper here, so I need a second to move this stuff around.
You have to get yourself.
>> Oh, all right.
>> Okay. I'm so sorry. I went a little out of order. We're actually going to have you athletes sit back down. We're going to be recognizing our Iron Hawks and our senior Iron Hawks really quickly. It's a logistical advantage on stage. So sorry.
>> All right, we'll do the iron box.
That's good. That's good.
>> So, before we get to our Iron Hawk athletes, um what I would like to do um is ask those student athletes uh who will be participating at the collegiate level to please stand. So, if you're going to be competing at the collegiate level, I'm asking you to please stand.
Stay.
Don't sit.
So, these individuals are among the fewer than 7% of high school student athletes in the country who will go on to compete at the collegiate level.
Tonight, we are proud to celebrate you.
The hard work and sacrifice you have put in have brought you to this moment. And this is just the beginning. So, one more time, ladies and gentlemen, if we can uh congratulate these student athletes.
Now, we'll go to the Iron Hawks.
So, uh first, uh we are going to go through our senior Ironhawks. The def the definition of an Ironhawk, an MHS Iron Hawk is defined by a student athlete who plays a sport in all three seasons during one school year. These are our Iron Hawks for seniors. First, Abigail Arujo, Marco Bleti, Matteo, Demo Yuri Diaz, Andrew Hazer, Jaden Madden, and Jason Stokes.
>> Good job.
That is Jason. You're right.
Next, we will be honoring our Super Iron Hawks. A super Iron Hawk is defined by a student athlete who plays a sport in all three seasons during their four years of high school.

So, we had two winners, uh, two students who won the Scarlet Hawk Spirit Award.
And uh I have one more award to give out and this is going to go to a staff member, someone near and dear to me. I'm going to be a little selfish right now.
The Scarlet Hawk Spirit Award is a prestigious honor presented to a Milford High School staff member who exemplifies unwavering dedication to the success of all school programs through their enthusiasm, character, and genuine school spirit. This Milford High School alum embodies the heart of Scarlet Hawk of our Scarlet Hawk community by helping to co coach not just one team but multiple teams. He has had a lasting impact on countless student athletes through his support and dedication to the teams he coaches and to the town that he represents.
And he's taken a lot of flack from me over the years.
The Scarlet Hawk Spirit Award staff member Brett B. Dog Crosby.
Uh, that's a There is no one like B dog.
>> Okay.
So at this time we are going to move on to the uh Tony Koreah award and I am going to ask our girls soccer coach Luke Calabelloo to please come up to present the female winner for tonight.
Good evening. First thing I'd like to do is thank Mr. Dvito for giving me the opportunity to present this prestigious award. In case you don't know what the Tony Korea Memorial Coaches Award is, it's a prestigious athletic honor presented to the top female athlete in the senior class recognizing outstanding character, leadership, sportsmanship, and athletic achievement. What makes this year's award extra special is the tremendous amount of truly talented ladies who will leave their mark at Milford High School.
As girls varsity soccer coach, I have watched this young lady grow into the outstanding student athlete she is today.
The best part of being a coach is the ability to see an athlete mature and take their talents to another level. At every practicing game, she demonstrated skill, mental and physical toughness, leadership, and was a role model to our younger players on how to play the game.
a true team player. If you look up the definition of an athlete in the dictionary, you'll probably see her picture next to it. Her aggressive style of play earned the respect of her opponents.
You always needed to know where number 14 was on the field. She only knew one direction, and if you were in her way, it was a problem.
Every time she knocked somebody down, her mom would cringe and her dad would say with a big smile on his face, "That's my girl." And Coach Lou would hope it was not another yellow card.
Off the field, her personality and smile radiated through Milford High School.
Coach Costa says she's a tremendous leader on defense, a true two-way player who was all over the court, making steals and pushing the fast break in transition or to find an open shooter shooter as she penetrates. She was a huge part of the team's return to the playoffs this year.
Coach Mackey says she was a pleasure to coach. Every program needs a player like her. She makes everyone around her better and creates a culture of success both on and off the field.
At camps and clinics, young players gravitate to her as their role model.
This young lady has left her mark on Milford High School athletics, which which will be felt in many years to come.
Coach Devito says to be nominated for this award is an honor, but there are important criteria that need to be met, and she meets them all. An outstanding student, an outstanding athlete, and most of all, an outstanding human being.
She works hard to be the true version of herself, but also at the same time cares deeply about those around her. She's a true gamer. Her attitude, dedication, and sacrifice have molded her into the young woman she is today. This is a direct reflection of her upbringing.
This three sport captain I have seen participate in numerous athletic contests by having the advantage of also being on the event staff. She's an Iron Hawk. She's attending Providence College for nursing next year.
And if that doesn't work out, she can get a job at Town Fair Tire to learn how to fix flat tires.
I have never had a daughter, but surely if I did, I have I would have wanted her to inherit all the qualities and traits she possesses.
I want to give a special thanks to her parents for giving me the opportunity to coach her the last four years.
How special is this award this year? 30 years ago, her dad Jeremy won this prestigious award.
Doing some research with the help of Mr. Zakily, I found out that she is the only fatherdaughter combination to ever have won the award.
At this time, it's my pleasure to present the Tony Korea Memorial Coaches Award to Miss Caitlyn Kernan.
Thank you.
Thank you, coach. I would like to call up now our girls varsity basketball coach and our boys lacrosse coach newly off getting his first league title in school history. Coach Austin Costa for our boys winner.
Good evening. Uh, and congratulations to the class of 2026 and all the student athletes being recognized tonight. The Tony Korea Memorial Coaches Award is presented to an individual who exhibits dedication, commitment, leadership, and pride in Milford Athletics and Milford High School. It is given to the type of student athlete who is a pleasure to coach and the type of competitor that every program hopes to have. Tonight's recipient is exactly that. Over the past four years, this athlete has established himself as one of the most accomplished athletes in Milford boys lacrosse history. He has been named a hakamaki allstar and is poised to lacrosse all-American nominee, placing him among the top players in this region. This player will leave Milford High School as the all-time leading scorer, amassing an incredible 281 career points and still counting.
In the first half alone, he was scoring seven of our team's eight goals, putting together one of the most dominant performances that we have seen in our biggest moment.
What I will remember most about this athlete, however, is the way he challenged me as a coach. As coaches, we constantly ask players to sacrifice, commit, prepare, and give everything they have to the program. With this individual, I never once had to question whether I was going to get his best effort on game day. I always knew he was going to give me absolutely everything he had, 110% every time he stepped on the field.
His football coach, Dale Olsen, stated, "An athletes legacy isn't built on records alone, but on the time, sweat, and heart that is invested year after year. Thank you for leaving everything you had on the field and representing your school with unmatched pride. hours of practice, game-winning plays, and the leadership you showed, your teammates reflect a deeply rooted work ethic that will carry you far. Congratulations on this award. It is very welld deserved.
His basketball coach, Dana Olsen, stated, "Jason was a relentless worker.
Only knew one speed, and that was full speed."
His career will be remembered through records, awards, and historic wins. But more importantly, he'll be remembered as a competitor, a leader, and a student athlete who helped raise the standard for Milford athletics and Milford boys lacrosse.
He'll be moving on to play football at Bates College next year, where he will see the same type of success that he had here.
I am proud to announce the recipient of the 2026 Tony Korea Memorial Coaches Award, Jason Stokes.
Let's step back in time. We're gonna take a break from a couple speeches >> and I'm sure we'll hear a lot of laughs coming up.
>> I always knew this day would come. We'd be standing one by one.

She's dressed up.
So she's always in our world.
There's nothing to keep you from falling down.
like a hand in the world.
She is dressed up like so. She's always in there.
She's only star.
Heat. Heat.
When I leave you high and dry, I'll be at your door. If you need help, if you need help, I'll shut down the city lights. I beg to make you make you well.
the right door. I'll carry you away from you.
If you need help, your whole day by stream will share in your suffering to make you well. To make you well. Give me reason for me.
And I will do it for you.

I love you long.
I love you long after you gone. You're my blackone. You're my cornerstone. You're my leg.
Promise I won't keep you long.
Um before I begin, my final thoughts.
I'd like to take a moment to offer some thanks. Uh first, uh for to Colleen and the entire uh MHS Boosters Club. Um give them please round of applause.
This is a special event and we're incredibly fortunate to have uh volunteers like all of you to to organize this and the amount of time that you put into this is is incredible.
So so thank you for that. Um yeah, our entire Milford High School administration, um our scholarship committees, our generous private donors, uh Milford TV, who's here tonight. Um, additionally up in the booth there, our interim dean of students, Jeremy Folster, give him a big round of applause.
Uh, Amy Croto for all of her work with our Ironhawks. Um, and I'm going to point out two individuals who don't like to be pointed out, but I'm going to point them out. Mrs. Lorie Pinto and Miss Ashley Desco.
They've put up with a a couple weeks worth of me losing it and changing a speech and everything else for quite some time. And they are incredible at putting up with me. And I can't begin to to thank you for all you do, not just for for, you know, in our office. Boy, you do day in and day out for these kids. They're behind the scene that no one sees. Uh you do two truly are the best. We're very very lucky to have you.
Uh so again, thank you to all of you.
Tonight would not be possible without any of you. Um and again, your hard work and dedication is it's it really is second to none. So thank you to everyone. Um you know, tonight we've had the opportunity uh to do something that that doesn't happen nearly enough. Uh we we get to pause and we get to see each other and celebrate each other's successes. Um, we've celebrated remarkable achievements uh of our teams, our individual student athletes uh by recognizing through awards and scholarships that were presented here tonight. Tonight is way more than that though. And I I need you to understand that. Tonight we say thank you. Thank you to every senior student athlete for the early mornings you showed up for, the late nights you pushed through, and the sacrifices that you made uh that people never saw. Thank you to your families who rearranged schedules, drove countless miles, and cheered from the stands in the rain, in the cold, or like today in the heat. And thank you to our coaches, many of you who are here tonight, who gave not just the amount of time and sacrifices you make with your families, uh, but their passion to help these young student athletes become the best versions of themselves.
What all of you gave to Milford athletics, it was not small, it was extraordinary. And tonight, we are here to honor that. When I look at what this senior class has accomplished, I don't just see trophies and championships and titles. I see student athletes who, this is going to be a theme you're going to see with all of us were saying, who showed up not just when the lights were bright and the stands were full, but on those cold, miserable mornings when you didn't want to get up and those afternoons when nobody was watching. I see teammates here who picked each other up when the score wasn't in their favor. I see student athletes who chose hard every single day.
That's what dedication and commitment look like. And those two things more than any trophy, any scholarship, any award that you're ever going to get of what separates good from great.
Here at Milford High School, there's a rich history and a legacy to uphold. As a coach, I've always asked my teams, "What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered? What's your story going to look like?" It's easy to say, but it's harder to do.
Ultimately, you make those choices. No one else. In the end, you decide how hard you're going to work when no one is watching. In the offseason, in practices, when it's hard and when it's easy to give in. Legacy isn't built in a single game, in a single season, or in a single night. legacy is built in the thousands and thousands of small decisions that you made to push a little bit harder, to stay a little bit longer, and to be the kind of teammate that someone can count on. Every record you broke, every championship you won, and every time you put on that Milford uniform, you gave everything you had, you added something bigger than just yourself. You left this program, this school, and this community in a better place than you found it.
That's the mark of a true Scarlet Hawk.
That mark doesn't disappear when you walk across the graduation stage either.
It lives in these halls on these walls.
And every athlete who comes after you who dares to dream just a little bit bigger because of what you did.
To every senior student athlete here tonight, whatever you're walking into next, whether it's college, career, military, or something you just haven't figured out yet, I want you to understand something. The lessons you've learned along the way are the foundation for every success that lies ahead of you. The discipline that it took to show up every day will guide you. The resilience that you built every time you face adversity and push through, that will guide you. The leadership that you have developed in our classrooms, in athletics, as outstanding ambassadors in our communities, that will guide you further than any championship or any accolade that you could ever get. You learned that success doesn't happen overnight. You learned how to compete.
It's earned in every rep, day by day, through the grind that again, most people will never see. You learned how to lift each other up and you learned how to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Those are not just athletic lessons. Those are life lessons.
On behalf of the Milford High School athletic department and our entire community, our coaches, all of us in this room here tonight, we are incredibly proud of you. Not just for the championships you've won. How you competed is what matters. The leaders you've become matters. And for the legacy that you leave behind.
Congratulations to the Milford High School class of 2026.
All right, we are just about wrapped up.
We just want to say a really quick thank you to a lot of people here tonight.
Really fast. Um, everybody that Steve just mentioned, our donors, our community, we really want to call out, if you look in your Corbin booklets, we have a lot of local vendors. um restaurants that give a lot to our athletes. So, please look in your booklets, frequent those places. Um so many people to thank. Thank you everybody who gave your time tonight, helped us in some way to pull off this amazing night. We are so thankful for you and most importantly, congratulations class of 2026.
