A water softening system like the Aquabion scale reducer works by changing the format of scale inside water as it passes through a shredder cartridge, reducing hard water hardness and preventing limescale buildup in pipes, taps, and showers; the system requires cartridge replacement every seven years and represents a cost-effective investment for protecting plumbing systems.

My new plant standAdded:
Hello.
Welcome to a new Sandra Makes. I've just realized it's actually still quite breezy out here. So, I'm just going to pause and go and get the wind muff back again. Hopefully, that's better.
So, the reason why I'm around the back of the property today is because back before I went to Scotland, uh Neil kindly built me a new stand to put my plants on when I put them out for sale on the fronts there.
And sadly, somebody thought that we were giving it away and it just disappeared after a couple of days. That's really frustrating. Neil went to a lot of trouble to build it. Anyway, he's built me another one, which is here.
And this time it's on it's on wheels, so I can wheel it in and out and not leave it at the front when we're not there.
And we're probably going to secure it by some means as well. So, I was going to put plants out first thing this morning.
However, it's been extremely windy this morning as everything was falling over.
So, I've not got it out today, but I have tried putting out a few plants.
And I can see they've fallen over as well. So, I think I might have to give up and bring them in possibly. We'll see. We'll see.
Yeah, they have fallen over again.
Quite a few of them. Anyway, this poor sunflower.
Oh dear dear.
And these have fallen over as well. Oh dear.
Oh no.
Yeah. It's just too windy.
Anyway, so that was that. And then we've had in Lindsay plumbing and heating today because we're getting a new system fitted which is like a water softening system so that we don't get build of deposits inside the uh things like the um the central heating system and the hot water system and so on. And then we should get less deposit building up on the taps and the showers and things like this.
So, uh, yeah. So, that's quite exciting.
So, that's all ready to go apparently.
So, I'm just going to go inside and, uh, asked Dave to tell us a bit more about it, how it works. And, um, yeah, definitely recommending Lindsay Plumbing and Heating. They're very professional, always get good correspondence, and they arrive on time where they say, and very fair price and everything.
So, I'm going to take you inside. We're going to have a look at what they've been doing.
Right. So, I'm back inside. Uh, our plumber is going to help with just changing an outside tap. So, he's just doing that at the moment.
But, just have a quick peek. Have a look in there. Hope you can see. Okay.
So, it's very neat.
So, just tucked away at the back there is our new water purifier.
Great. So, we're all done and dusted.
So, we've even got um a new garden tap fitted as well. So, thanks so much for sorting our garden tab as well. So, this is Dave from Lindsay Plumbing and Heating. So, tell us a little bit about what we just had installed. So today I've installed the Aquabion which is a scale reducer and it works by when the water passes through it's like a a shredder cartridge and it changes the uh format of the scale inside the water and then reduces the uh hard water hardness of the water when it comes out of the outlets.
>> So I'm looking forward to that. I'm not liking a lime scale. It's just not that great for the pipe work either. Is it really? It will help improve the uh life expectancy of all taps and all showers.
So yeah, it's a worthy investment.
>> Definitely. And the and the the unit does need replacing is it in a few years time?
>> Once every seven years.
>> Seven years. There you go. So yeah. So there are other options where you have to change the filter every year I believe.
>> That's it. Yeah. So you've got different options. one where you can change a polyphosphate filter which once again reduces the scale um or you could go for a full-blown water softener but everything has it advantages and disadvantages and running costs and so on so forth. So it's a good good allrounder and good value for money.
>> So so now that it's fitted we don't have any running costs for seven years which sounds good to me. So >> perfect. So uh yeah um yeah so thanks again for all the help and definitely recommending these people give give great service so do look them up.
Thanks very much Dave.
>> Bye.
>> Sorry. Uh good evening. I'm not sure what's going on with this camera wobble. I don't know. I've been um out and about. So I've I've had I've got a plant sales order. So, I've been getting together all the things that this lady wants. Uh, I'm going to deliver to them tomorrow.
So, I've been busy getting that ready and just noticed the time. Thought, my goodness, better get on with cooking tea. So, I've not filmed this for a while. So, I thought I'll do a little update on what we're cooking at the moment. So, we're into the summer season now. And so, we're going I'm going to do roast chicken. I am doing roast chicken, but I'm going to do it with egg salad.
The egg bit is a meal thing. Apparently, it's not a salad without eggs, and because of his gouts, he can't really have cheese at the moment. So, anyway, we're all different. Rash's complaining because I've not given her a biscuit yet. Should we give her a biscuit?
Would you like a biscuit, Rasha?
Yeah, you would, wouldn't you? Yeah. And you've definitely not been fed at all today, have you? No. Not even leftover mint or nothing.
Patience. Right. Are you ready? Wait.
There you go. Good girl. Take.
You're so good. You're getting one and a half today. There you go.
Yeah. So, I'm mainly doing the salad.
And I've just popped on a little bit of potato, which isn't going to go with the salad, but Neil made a rather nice tired. What's the word? Cottish pie even. Yeah, very nice cottage pie. But again, we're all different. I kind of like a bit more potato with my cottage pie. So, so I'm going to take some extra potato for my lunch tomorrow along with some leftover cottage pie and then we're going to have the chicken and salad tonight. So, if you want to have a quick peek how the chicken's looking.
It's uh we're doing it I'm doing it in the air fryer. It's not far off actually. It's looking pretty good.
So, not sure it'll need quite the time it said on the packet. I'll check that in a minute. It'll be all right for now.
Yeah. So, uh gosh, April as I'm recording this is almost over.
How anyway?
And um yeah. So, so as I'm recording this, I've got one more day to work and then I get a mini break as we come into May, which I'm looking forward to.
It's not been bad to be fair. It's just just always quite busy uh where I work anyway. So, um yeah. So, so careering fast into May as I'm recording this, which I just can't quite believe.
Anyway, but um yeah, going all right.
So, there's lots happening in the garden as well as I'm hopefully going to do another inside plant sale uh at the end of the week.
Fingers crossed. That's the plan because I really need to clear a bit more room in my greenhouse. So, I started off I mentioned recently I did start off the um tomato seeds and the strawberry seeds.
Seeds hopefully later this season, strawberries for next year. Uh still nothing happening with the strawberries as expected, but I have seen a little bit of movement on the tomatoes. So hopefully they'll grow nice and quick. What the plants I have got in the greenhouse now got the screening on and they're not frying.
Absolutely thriving and growing really quickly which is wonderful. So it's nice and warm in there. Good light. So that is definitely I would count as a success.
The soil issues we're getting there. I think most things are now reasonably happy in the new soil that I got, which is good.
I had got aspirations to do some work on the spinning wheel, but I got tired, I'll be honest. So, I just sneezed instead. These things happen. And what else have we got going on? So, so yeah. So, very close, I think, to getting the original wood spinning wheel that I was restoring into working condition, which would be very exciting.
Yeah, just life.
But yeah, it's going okay. Everything's going okay. So, yeah, other things up and coming. Yeah. Oh, yes. I need to plant more seeds still, but I need to I just That's what I was saying. Sorry, I remember now. It was about clearing space in the greenhouse.
I really want to get cracking with the things like corettes and um yeah, girkins and things like that that want to grow, but yeah, I need a bit of space. So hopefully I have a bit more space by the weekend and get cracking with that.
I have actually started to plant a few things in the garden now. So the honesty is now out in the garden. The cosmos is now out in the garden and my big borage plant is out. The melaines still need to grow a bit more before they go out. But they are growing which is great.
So uh question of keep watching. So yeah um if you are fairly new to the channel particularly to my weekly Sanja Makes do say hello. I also have a Sandra Makes and Bakes Facebook page if you want to pop by there and say hello. Uh I will try and get back to making time to um pop in little updates on there as well from time to time. And I do have a bit of an Instagram but it's yeah I'm not putting much on there right now. Quite a lot happening at the moment in the real world as it were.
But yeah, if you are new and you're enjoying it, you know, please do give us a thumbs up and a like and a subscribe and the usual. It all helps the channel to grow. Um, thanks so much for watching and do keep watching to see what comes up next. You never quite know on this channel.
So yeah, I couldn't put out the uh the new plant stand on the front of the property cuz it was just way too windy today, which is a bit of a shame. And we do need a way to secure it to our property as well which we're working on.
Yeah, it's to be it is quite a common thing here that people leave things that they are giving away on the roadside. So it was a genuine mistake I'm sure but we bit frustrating. The original trolley stand only lasted two days.
Right, I got to get on with cooking this chicken and getting the salad ready for tea.
Can't be too careful with chicken. I have uh when I lifted out my chicken pieces, those after I left them for a little bit, they were still running a little bit pink. So, I have put them in for to roast for an extra 10 minutes in the air fryer. So, they did look done.
Let's put the light back on.
Um, but I have popped them back in and make sure they're definitely cooked.
So, I've still got half an hour before I need to serve up. So, better safe than sorry, I think.
So, I've nearly finished tea. I just remembered there was one other thing I wanted to share with you. So, those are Neil's peppers. That's not actually what I was going to show you. So, these were It looks like a mug.
These were the I mentioned earlier the wis white wisteria seeds and it's recommended to soak them for about 48 hours before planting them in warm water which I did. So, hope you can see.
Look a bit like pennies in the bottom of the cup at the moment.
So, I'm giving those a good soak. And then I read somewhere else you can also just um break the outer skin. It just helps them to germinate as well.
Apparently, not something I've done before. So, um many thanks to Paul Young who sent the seeds and I'll try not to kill them. It's not something I've grown before, but we we'll we'll see how we get on. Okie do.
Right. Uh back to the cooking.
Also Rash wants to come in.
So all done.
And uh chicken and egg salad. It's ready. And Neil will be home quite shortly. And there they are looking I think rather lush. And then yeah, we can just pick whatever sources we want to go with it.
So getting quite hungry myself. It's a late one for Neil tonight. So bit later than normal. Lovely. Right, I'm going to crack on for now.
And uh do keep watching. I think there'll be a little bit more before we finish this particular Sandra makes.
It's another fine morning here. Uh Neil is working today as I'm recording this and I'm off to a local tabletop coffee morning and I'm going to do another plant sale.
So that's what I'm taking with me.
Again, I don't think I have permission to record, but anyway, we'll see how it goes. And then yesterday, I did sell 14 worth of plants to someone. So that was really good. So definitely getting a bit more room in my greenhouse, right? Better get myself down there.
So that was a very pleasant morning. Uh lovely friendly people in there. I did um sell a small amount, but I must say it was a little bit quiet today. Uh, but I do have um >> like there is so so a couple of the plants I didn't bring I'm gonna save and then the lady will take them next week.
So I kind of got an order for next week and uh yeah so and I would have sold one more but it's not um frost hardy so the lady changed her mind. So definitely some interest which is nice and uh So, that's what I'm going back with. But again, I can put them outside on the front hopefully while I'm about as well and see if any go that way. So, yeah.
Um, an enjoyable morning and there is still a few. So, I'll count that as a win.
It's an absolutely glorious afternoon.
Warm. The wind has dropped. So, I'm trying again. Putting some plants out.
See if we get any takers on Neil's new trolley.
And here are the plants.
Got some on top, room for some underneath, all labeled up. and an additional sign that says plant table is not for sale.
Please leave here.
So, I'm around this afternoon. So, it should be fine for now anyway. And then longer term, we're going to look if we can secure it a bit more semi-permanently like a removable lock so we can wheel it in when we're not here. Anyway, fingers crossed table will stay in place this time.
We hope as I'm recording this, it's a bright sunny afternoon. I've just been cooking tea. Neil's been working again. I've been off today as I'm recording.
Beautiful, beautiful, warm, sunny day.
And um excuse the stripey appearance. Uh it's just the low sun catching my face.
Anyway, so I have actually got um I have actually got baked mackerel in the oven for Neil. I will have a bit. But when I went rummaging in the freezer, I found some frozen white bait as well, which I do really enjoy in a homemade batter.
So, I've cooked the rest of the white bait because we're trying to clear out the freezer anyway. And I like it anyway. And then even if Neil doesn't eat any, I'm sure Rasha will enjoy a bit. So, there's my crispy fried white baits. And you can have it with a little bit squeeze of lemon. And we've got some nice salad to to go with it and a bit of crusty bread. So, it's all pretty much ready now. Just kept the mackerel to stay warm in the oven, but it's cooked.
And uh yeah, very pleasant afternoon.
So, I popped over to see my knitting group ladies. That was really lovely.
And had mixed success with the robot lawn mower. So, Uh I yeah I don't quite understand this bit. So what happened was I'm not sure what's better or worse. I'm going to stand up. I think I'm kind of half cut off there. So what happened was I set off the robot lawn mower and it didn't want to come out of the garage. So I manually moved it out of the garage and then it cut one lawn and then a second lawn and then it said it was stuck.
So, I couldn't seem to get it going. So, I thought, well, I'll just start again.
But, um, there doesn't seem to be a way to tell it. You've already cut this lawn and that lawn, and I can't even make out that there are little patches with numbers on, but no, little patches with no numbers on the begy pardon.
So, it's really hard to work out which number relates to which of our lawns.
Excuse me. Anyway, long story short, I thought that's fine. So I set it off again and it did the same areas again plus a couple of new ones and then it was safe around the back of the property. So I thought that's fine because I needed to go out by then. So that's okay. I'll pause it where it's round the back out of sight and then get get myself ready and nip out for an hour.
Anyway, by the time I got to the car, I thought I better check is the robot still around the back. And blow me, the blooming robot wasn't around the back.
It was waiting by the side gate.
So there must be some default thing where it will try and go home as it were which is in our case is in the garage uh if there's no further instruction.
But I did kind of say stop mowing on on the on the app.
Anyway, so then I had to then manually drive the flipping thing back into the garage.
Anyway, so not so automated.
a lot of manual driving.
Weird. Anyways, anyway, I had a nice time when I got out, but it was even later than I should have been. It's just Why can you not tell the robot to just stay there till I come back?
It's a mystery. Anyway, I might have to read the handbook again as well.
Anyway, so that's been my afternoon and we're hopefully going to have a visitor tomorrow, but we'll see.
Hopefully it all go to plan.
In the meanwhile, I think I'm going to nibble on my white bait until his nibs arrives, which should be pretty soon.
Terrain.
Good morning. It's another beautiful sunny day.
So, I never did finish mowing the grass yesterday because the lawn mower apparently has a mind of its own. I needed to pop out for an hour yesterday afternoon and then it it wouldn't like I tried to pause it where it was and it it decided to make its own way back to its docking station. And so anyway, so I had to sort that and then it set off again when I got back after tea and it was toodling away and then it suddenly disappeared again and it had gone back to its docking station again this time because it had run out of charge. So it's now a charge but it was getting very late by then. So I tried I tried anyway. So that was yesterday. Uh this morning I've had a bit of a tidy up. So obviously I've been selling a few plants now. So, I've been able to rearrange things. So, there's a bit more space and I think Neil also wants to start off some seeds as well. So, there's more room in here now. So, I've got to rearrange things a bit. So, I've got some things down on on that side which more mature now coming along. And sunflowers getting really big now.
And I've got my geraniums in the far corner. And now we've got a lot more space. And then a few bits chilies and peppers and things. And a few bits here that still need sorting. But today, now that I've got room to move, what I want to do is I've got the seeds in here. I hope you can see them. I'll get them out in a minute. Uh, so they've been soaking for 48 hours in warm water and then I'm going to put them into a mix of my best compost that I have. And I'm going to mix in some vermiculite as well. Um, because this is a long long burn project. So if these germinate and if they grow and if I don't kill them or the soil doesn't kill them or so then uh apparently they even if they do all that and I find a good place to grow them they don't flower for 15 years apparently.
That's a long time. Anyway, we'll give it a go. So yeah, sorry I said the seeds was kind of sent to me by Paul Young. So hello to Paul. you've been a fantastic uh champion for the channel. We really appreciate it. Uh do keep watching and we'll see how we go. And then I also read that these kind of legume seeds that have quite a hard skin, it can help to just araid or just I'm going to use this steak knife just gently just to break open the skin a little bit. So, it just helps the germination process when they're trying to escape from the tough outer casing.
So, that's what I'm going to do next. I was just going to mention um when I was at the sale yesterday, these gorgeous, gorgeous earrings are made by a local lady. So, if you go into Wayne Fleece Cottage, the wool shop in in in in Wayne Fleet here, you can buy this. There's some beautiful, beautiful things this lady makes uh by hand. So, definitely recommending those. Um really talented lady.
And uh here's my able assistant.
Oh, no. Don't rub it off. No.
Have to paint it on again if he does that. Dear dear. Right. Right. Bear with me. I will be back some while later. quite a while later.
I've had to pop into Skag Ness for a couple of hours, which will be on a different video. So, finally going to try and get this finished. So, I've got my uh sharpish knife.
So, you can see that the seeds quite bit like a flat disc. So, it's been soaking for a couple of days now in warm water.
And then I'm just going to just very gently score the outside on the flat sides. So what that should hopefully do is help when the seed is ready to germinate to help the baby plant inside come out.
So that's now reasonably soft. I'm just being quite gentle there.
So you can do this with pecs as well I believe improve the germination rate and the last one.
So all I need to do now is get my soil and vermiculite. So, I'm using I'm going to use one big tall pot and I'm going to put all of the seeds in the one pot for now and then they can hopefully get nice deep roots to down before I separate them into individual pots.
So, that is my plan. So, I'm just going to get the soil. Be back in a moment.
Lovely. So, I've got my soil ready. I've moistened my soil.
I've got a little bit of vermiculite in there to keep good arration in the soil.
And it's my better quality soil anyway.
So, I'm just going to make six holes. One, two, three, four, five. I think one in the middle.
Put my seeds in.
So going about couple of centimeters deep.
Cover and wait and see what happens.
So, as I say, I've never tried to grow these before.
So, I just hope they grow okay. But anyway, we will wait and see.
Thanks for watching so far.
And uh it's been very warm today, I must admit.
Anyway, yes. I'm trying to think where was Yeah.
What else I need to do still? Yeah.
Yeah. I think I'm almost ready to start on the next batch of planting.
There's always more jobs. Okay, so I've just put my uh a clump of my water crest out in the pond and excitingly the frog is still with us. So we have a resident frog now in our pond which is lovely.
The melain uh has been growing. If you remember it started out absolutely tiny. So, it will be going into my herb garden soon, but I'll just give it a bit longer, but moving into bigger pots just to give the roots a bit more chance to establish before I plant them out. So, that's what I'm going to do next.
Well, here we are back in the greenhouse again. It's just that time of year.
Anyway, uh if you've managed to watch this far and you're enjoying the green fingered content, do let me know. I appreciate very much you watching if you are.
And I'm going to finish off in this section, I think. So, as I say, if you do enjoy watching, uh please consider giving us a like, a thumbs up, anything like that. uh subscribe if you feel like it or a hype or anything. It's uh all welcome as are your comments which we do read and respond to as well. So where are we up to now? So we have renowned one of peppers and chilies coming along quite nicely now. So about half of my tomatoes have germinated now. So they're coming along.
So that that one's trying to grow under there. Anyway, there's one trying to grow. Yes. So, so at least half of them have germinated. I would appreciate.
They were quite expensive seeds. I'd hope a few more than that would come up anyway. But at least they are coming up and it's not the killer soil anymore. So hopefully they'll do better now. This is round two of the peppers, which I've actually almost caught up with the the earlier ones there. So they're obviously now the weather's warmer. They're coming on quite fast. And here I am now planting a few of each of girkin cucumber cuc melon corettes some local marrow seed and I'm having another go and see if I can get the freezer to germinate just because I do love them and they didn't germinate at all in the first round of killer soil and I don't think I've filmed this but I did put the water crest out in the pond now and found a frog as well, which is quite sweet.
But I've kept the water crest in a pot this time, so hopefully it will stay more contained and not cause issues with the rest of the pond or the fountain or anything hopefully.
So, um, the scented geranadiums are looking magnificent, but for I'm not quite sure what reason.
They're just just not very popular, um, to sell. So, I've sold I think two so far. And the lady last week lady last week would have had one, but wanted something outdoors and these are not frost hardy.
So, anyway, we'll see. So, I can propagate them, but uh yeah. Hey ho. Anyway, anyway, they're fine there for now.
So, I'm going to pop my lid on the new seeds.
And it's getting a lot milder at night now. So, I think I'm going to just try leaving these out here and see how they do. Uh quite a few of the plants are out on the front at the moment.
in case any passers by wants any.
Uh so there's not that much left in the greenhouse at the moment.
Yeah, this was um rocket and it has started to go to seed. So I thought at this stage I might just um if they do make seed I might just try and collect a few. So that's why those are still there.
So they can stay for now.
And the the pinks still looking a little bit wobbly, but hopefully as as they get the roots down, they should start to recover and pick up. But they're still alive, so that's good.
Oh, and oh, excuse me.
If you people remember who've been watching a while, the killer soil nearly killed all my red oxales, which I've had for a long time. So, I'd be a bit sad if I lost all of that.
So, um the original one is still going, which I didn't change the soil from. And then the parts that I rescued that were not happy in the other soil.
This is now version two John Inennis soil. They just weren't happy in that either. But look here.
So, can you see? So, we have got a little bit of growth on that one. So, that's great. So, hopefully as that gets more roots down that that should start to pick up and look a lot better. And then hopefully at some point the other one will get going too.
And then just keeping an eye on the wisteria pot and see if anything comes up.
So, I'll just quickly before I finish run up to the pond and show you where the water crest is and hopefully that'll do okay where it is. So, it's going to have to grow a bit to get above the water but should be fine. I've done it before. Fingers crossed. And I've got a spare pot just in case as well.
So, finishing here. I just wanted to show you how he get called Kermit at school for nothing, you know, just a green t-shirt on >> Neil's saying it's his frog.
>> And he used to be called Kermit at school and he's claiming the frog.
>> But I'm not showing you the frog.
>> So >> my fountain.
>> So there is a nice little bit of green there now. So the water >> so the water the >> the water crest plants will be good >> for the pond health anyway and it's edible so that's like a win-win and a little bit of shelter and food for the frog as well and then hopefully one time we might even get some frog spawn. You never know.
Guess what? Who's behind me?
>> Just watering the ho. Watering the garden.
>> Hello, frog.
Holy >> My frog.
>> So, um, with the crazy frog behind me shouting my frog, my frog, I'm I'm going to finish here. My dog. And so I'm actually quite pleased how the garden's shaping up this year as things are moving on quite fast. So we've got um lovely bit of color there with the wall flowers and then further down as well it's still greening up nicely now. The aqua leases are almost in flower.
Um so it's all looking quite lush now. The peies are all oh just peeking out. So that's a new thing. So there the penis are almost out looking amazing again.
So what I did last year was I took off all the flowerheads to help it encourage get more flowers this year. So it seems to work quite well.
>> Pipe in or pipe out?
>> Pardon?
>> Do you want the O pipe leaving in or out?
>> I don't need to water today. Thank you.
So, does that mean you want it in? I've got to do it again. I've put >> the caravan wet and I've done the concern filing this way.
>> I have no words. Anyway, so um yeah, so Oh, actually, this is putting up to flower already. this this one here on this side. So, this one tends to be a bit earlier than So, these are the lavenders, the mature lavenders.
Excuse the thistle that needs to come out. We've got my baby lavender is growing, which is lovely.
And um and then on this side, the forget me knots are now dying back.
The looping is looking spectacular.
We've even got the first snapdragons coming out. Look at that already.
And I'm not sure what um I'm not sure what this one is if I'm honest. It was given to me by my friend an I guess guess we'll soon find out it's budding up as well.
So yeah, it's just such a nice time of year. Everything uh starting to bloom and come out and then on my herb garden side again it's all filling out nicely now.
It's just a a riot of color and plants and I think it looks amazing. Don't care what anyone else thinks really.
So look at that. So the chives looking beautiful. The fruit bushes are coming on quite well.
Just looking really lovely.
So I got my various fruit bushes and so on. And this is this is alconet. I just think it's really pretty.
And then this should be my first ever teasel.
So I I don't know. I just just always always loved teasels. So I'm just quite excited to grow one of my own. And then I've saved a space in the middle where I'm going to put the Main plants when they're a bit bigger.
So, and as I say, obviously it's quite mixed in here intentionally, but it does mean that um even the grass can barely get a hold now. It's just just cuz it was so good. So, so good for the wildlife and the insects and the bees and all of that. And obviously that'll help feed the local birds and everything. So, I'm I'm really pleased how it's sh I just wish it was bigger is the main thing. Uh I could do with another area about the same size really.
Anyway, we'll see. It'll do for now.
It'll do for now. Lovely. Anyway, thanks so much again for watching this episode of Sandra Makes and Bakes. Obviously, it's been mainly gardening again just cuz it's that time of year.
