Their profound longing reflects how modern identity is often a curated lifestyle choice rather than a fixed national origin, turning "home" into a psychological construct. It is a textbook example of how the "American Dream" can fundamentally rewire European sensibilities, making the familiar feel alien.

We Miss America So Much It HURTS... Is Something Wrong With Us? (one week home)
Added:Hello.
>> Hello.
>> Hello. Hi. Oh my god. Welcome back. Um, so it's a week we've been back basically from America.
>> I would miss it so much. My god.
>> Yeah. we're having withdrawal symptoms and we wanted to just quickly like stick on here and just obviously video diary that because I think it's important for our journey when we're moving to America for us to keep track of like what were we like when we lived here >> it all becomes a quick distant memory >> and also when you go from one life to the other the differences and everything. Yeah, >> it's really stark. So I was like say to Emily this morning I says why don't we just put it like weekly also just chuck another video up and it's just us telling people like what do we miss about the US? What's the biggest differences? Like what's incredible about the place that actually you guys are forgetting that you don't you don't see because it's massive and >> and it's so like clear when we go through all the footages and everything we've done like every day all the experiences we've done we're like wow imagine if that was our life every day that would been incredible.
>> Exactly. I'm sitting editing it and I'm like shouting and Emily I'm like Emily look y you're never gonna believe that we did this is crazy and then I have to look around and look at the side and it's England >> and it's like honestly it just feels >> like we're not going to be able to do that today.
>> No, it's like a miniature It's like a miniature like >> chopping the head off.
>> But it makes you appreciate it more and it makes us want to go back even more.
So, it keeps us like focused, which is good.
>> Unbelievably, honestly, like the focus has never been higher. And if you guys are in this for the long haul, what is then click the button below that says subscribe. And also, because we're small creators, we've got access to the hype function so you can hyper video and it gets us up on like leaderboards and stuff and gets us more noticed. So, that' be massively valuable. But, what's your top thing that you're missing right now? I think to me is super clear. It is just the feeling of waking up and realizing that just anything is possible. As soon as you leave the door, you don't know who you're going to meet, >> where your day is going to end up.
>> Yeah.
>> Everything is possible.
>> Yeah.
>> Which is just not a feeling that you have here. And I think just that that like gut feeling to know that that's possible is within all the people that you meet as well. So everybody's more um they will say yes more. They will be more open to speaking to you because you don't know where the next conversation is going to lead. Are we maybe going to become friends? Are they going to show us a new place? Are we going to eat like a new type of food? Are we just going to get a new memory for life? Anything can happen, which is amazing. That gives you so much energy in the morning to be like, >> I don't know where I'm going to end up.
I know it's going to be awesome.
>> Well, it's going to happen. Yeah. You might have saw that there when you were if you're watching it like this on video. You might have just saw my eyes just darting side to side. That was me just reliving loads of memories in my head. There >> was the guy's name, the guy who took us to Dollywood, which is coming up in a future episode.
>> Was that Robert? It was Robert, wasn't it?
>> I think so. Yeah.
>> Yeah. I'm sorry. I'm so bad with names.
Great with faces. But >> I mean, we spend a good like six hours with him in the car.
>> Yeah. But still faces great names. No.
>> So, check this out. Right. Here's for instance. So me and Robert got on so well, right, that when Robert had drove us back, >> me and Robert just went to the bar, right, Robert had finished driving us back from Pigeon Forge, he drove us there in the morning, >> waited the whole day, >> basically. Also Paul and him sat in the front seat and had like a three-hour dialogue on the way there, like non-stop.
>> Nontop three-hour dialogue the way back non-stop. And in the end of the journey, Paul was like, "Oh my god, thank you so much." Um, and he was like, "Do you know what, man? One thing I would love to do is just to go for a drink with you." I was like, "Oh."
>> I was like, "I would love to go for a drink with you as well." I didn't know that was an option, brother.
>> Yeah.
>> And then you had an amazing night. So, we went away for another two and a half hours. And we just absolutely got in like a house on fire. It was crazy.
>> Me and Marie were in the back just eating snacks and like drooling.
>> Yeah. And I Yeah. And also, they just went back and went to bed. Me and Robert, right? We went to the bar around the corner and we just just >> Which was actually a cool place.
>> Yeah. It was cool. It was actually on our list of places to go, but he was awesome. Shout out to Robert. Honestly, if you're in Nashville and you're trying to go up to Pigeon Forge and you don't want to rent a car, Robert's place, I'll put the put the uh transfer details down below. Robert will sort you out. Car was just filled with beers and fireball shots and cookies and all sorts of candies and >> No, but it wasn't that. It was the fact that he was not just like transporting us there. He took us through all these amazing places.
>> Yeah, he took us through Pigeon Forge >> at amazing place. So it felt like and he was also an amazing tour guide and he said like watch out guys in 2 minutes you're going to see this amazing place.
So the whole trip just felt like >> it was cur.
>> Yeah it was curated. He knew exactly what way to take us and everything.
>> Very cool man but that was just like >> and his car was really yeah it was a Gwing like Model X Tesla which was mad sick. Uh, so you see it in the episode when we go to Bies and stuff like that, but um, yeah, it was just like things like that. I like when I woke up in the morning, I knew we'd go to Dollywood, but I never knew that we would do all that extra stuff in.
>> You didn't expect that to. But then when you look out the window here in the UK and you're sort of sitting there like none of that is going to you're not going to have >> experiences like that here. People are not up for just >> go like just doing that. Like there's an attitude here where it's like I suppose they might be in certain places but that's not what the life that we live but it's a life that we want to live.
>> Yeah.
>> You know and and I never experienced that in London and whatever you can do in London is within the bounds of London. That's it. But it's um it's just honestly like I was going to say >> what do you miss the most?
>> Um >> and you can say that.
>> No no it's not that. No.
>> What do I miss the most? Honestly, I've been trying to put my finger on it, but there was It's hard to explain because it was a feeling more than anything.
Right. Let me explain it like this. This is the best way I know how.
>> Mhm.
>> When I woke up in the morning, I was like a military commander. My attitude towards life was like just let us seize the day. Let us take this day for as much as it's worth.
>> You were living on some kind of adrenaline for sure.
>> Constantly, non-stop, right? But that adrenaline did wonders for my body. Like it was I felt like I could go without eating. I didn't have to stop. I didn't feel sluggish. I didn't have any pain.
By the way, I'm always living with pain, right? I have constant pain. It's a big thing in my life because I have this mad condition, rheumatoid arthritis, and it sucks. But pain is ever present. Not in America. No. Maybe that's because we're I was there and I knew I had a mission and I wanted to see all this stuff.
>> But to have a week of that or 10 days of that like I don't even get that when I go away in a European holiday.
>> I don't get that when I'm just chilling and relaxing. So I miss the way that I felt as a person. I miss the me American me.
>> Mhm.
>> Like and there's nothing that can quantify that. It's just that this ex feeling of like capability. I felt capable >> but it's a bit like a give and take. So it's like we felt the energy coming from around us which mess that we got energy.
So I think it was just like amazing feeling just >> exactly and the fact was is that it was like we had that energy so we attracted that.
>> Now we're like that all the time right?
We're just positive happy. But when it's around you, it sort of like built it up even more and you get more energy on top of your normal because >> Yeah. It's like a ladder.
>> That was the thing because there was so many people that were like us. Like if I was to go on the street right now and be like myself, right? Like I would I genuinely will wear this and thank you for this. This is from Dennis and Shana.
>> Yeah.
>> Like >> they were amazing. What amazing people honestly.
>> It was so cool, man. They took us to different places in the city we would have never found. Mh.
>> Um, >> so it it was very cool like to meet other people. They were like that, right? So, good example, >> Dennis and Shana had even more energy than us and we were like basically running on adrenaline >> and I was like, >> whoa. Okay. Like I'm I'm reaching superhuman levels of enthusiasm here.
>> Yeah. But imagine how amazing just to be like that all the time. I think that we could be honestly if we lived there, I think that would just be our normal state.
>> Absolutely. Absolutely. And and but if I go on the street like that and I'm like that here, people will just shut down on you, >> people will shut down on you. You need to meet very specific types of people that will be that will that will ride into that. Whereas, you know, like nine out of every 10 Americans I've met that were like that.
>> There's a little bird. See that little bird fly by my head? They're so friendly with us, these little birds here, because we're out here all the time.
Like we just live our life in the outdoors and the birds are so comfortable. Like I've >> Which is a blessing for a dog because he loves it. Yeah, he loves him. They bump in his face and everything. He's supposed to catch them, but he never does.
>> Um, but >> No, but that's a really nice way of explaining it.
>> Yeah.
>> What? See what what do you mean?
>> What did you just said?
>> Okay. I can't remember what I got I got distracted by that little bird.
>> Um, but that's me. But, you know, like >> No, but it really was. I think it's like hard to pinpoint just like one thing, but it's more of a feeling and how it made us feel, which I think is that's why it's so beautiful and that's why we want to live there forever because if we can feel like that, I would be happy.
>> And people have said that's the number one thing. Well, not the number one.
>> I also love this Goodwill hobby.
>> Yeah, hobby. I got it. No, I've never Yeah, she bought it.
>> Um, but the thing was cool that Dennis and Shana were like super energetic and everybody we met was like that, them especially. So, but >> everybody we met was like that and like there's days where I'm just like I have that energy in me all the time to give.
>> But the problem here in the UK is I feel I put the brakes on it because nobody else can receive that energy. It's not like a standard state of energy that people receive. It's very much like, "Oh, yes. Oh, I'm doing it. Oh, okay.
Let's get the paperwork." But I'm I jumping around like this nonstop. Like, and if somebody says, "Let's go to the pub or let's go to the bar," I'll be like, "All right, cool. Let's absolutely go." Like, I'm just ready to go at all times. And America was right there with me.
>> And it always is. It's right there with me, ready to go. And we're full like engagement mode. Full engage mode.
Dang, Lemiey's back and she have a new hair do.
>> So, the hat is gone and my new hair is back.
>> We were just recording that video there and Emily was like, "Ah, it's 3:30. I have to go. I have a hair appointment."
So, I have been waiting here for a few hours.
>> Yeah.
>> But now we're back.
>> We're reconvening.
>> Ready?
>> No. But where did we left off? Yes. So, one big thing that I'm missing the most the most on top of the whole energy and just waking up and feeling excited to do new things and don't know where you're going to end up is the all the experiences when it comes to food.
>> Oh man, are we have you >> I lost the interest now when I came back. I'm like I don't know what I want to cook like it's not doesn't engage me.
It's not all these like new flavors, new combinations, all these new things. Just walking into supermarket being all excited like I want to try this. I didn't know this combination existed.
It's just combination of different flavors, all the spices you have, all the spice combinations we don't have.
>> Yeah, we just don't. It's crazy like >> and the thing is like because I like to cook and so do you, but you sort of need to be inspired as well and I felt inspired there.
>> Yeah. And the funny thing is is like the comments section obviously in Instagram uh and YouTube shots. I've been putting up loads of videos of me just eating stuff. I didn't think you wanted to do that, so I just recorded myself just doing it all.
>> Yeah. And um basically the comment section is just like you guys invented the spice trade. Seems like you've completely lost control of that. Like there's what do you guys have over there over there? Just salt and pepper and that's it. It does feel a bit like that.
>> But you know what it's more like the combination because everything changed like what people find like tasty is change. So you need to keep up with the thing like keep up with the times right.
And I feel like US is keeping up with the times when it comes to flavor combinations. anything that's new and on trend, they will make like 10 different versions.
>> They're creating.
>> Exactly. But also creating the trends.
So that's also what we see and that's why we want to try it.
>> We're not even you're not these trends are not translating across the water.
>> We're just sitting here still eating cardboard with salt and pepper in it.
Basically, >> just when it comes to the snacks, it's the same combinations and like all this treats. It's pistachio. We've seen pistachios on everything for like a year and a half now.
>> Yeah. But that's a bit like done, but nothing moves on. You know what I mean?
It's like they give us one flavor and then that's it.
>> The funny thing is is the UK, they say that the UK is like 5 to 10 years behind the US, right?
>> But it seems to be 5 to 10 years for each thing.
So we can watch 10 things online >> and then they will come 5 years apart to the UK.
>> Yeah. They dropped them. It's like limited rooms, >> so we don't get to experience too much awesomeness >> and not everything at the same time.
Exactly. You need to space it out a bit so people >> remember that frothy coffee that was going about for a long time. It was a >> Yeah, >> that's the Greek coffee.
>> Yeah. But it was a there was an American version, right? And it was like they were making it somewhere in California, >> right?
>> And then like 3 years later, I saw it advertised in a coffee shop down the road and I'm like, dude, I would saw that 3 years ago. Like get get with it.
What is happening?
>> That's so funny. The the biggest thing I do you know what in America like the biggest thing I missed was just the sense of just absolute captivation. Like every time we woke up you knew you were going to see like a huge American sky.
You were going to go and >> I love that you pointed that out to your mom as well. And >> she was like no.
>> But then she did see it because it totally made sense.
>> Yeah. So I figured that out.
>> You feel it now as well.
>> Yeah. Like it's much lower it feels lower. of the sky in the UK 100% feels like >> the clouds are almost in your face.
>> If anybody has an explanation for this, I have a cobbled together limited scientific understanding of the phenomenon, but it feels like the air pressure here in Europe is higher or something and the cloud is lower to the ground and it just feels like you're trapped in like a tunnel all the time like you're boxed in. But in America >> and this is nothing to do with the buildings. So let's say you stand on like a big open field, you feel still feel like the sky feels closer in some weird way.
>> Yeah, it's just hard to explain. So please, if you guys know what that is, please let us know in the comments because we have no idea how to explain it.
>> It would be fun if it's just a feeling and it's not.
>> Yeah, it would be funny if it was just like you're actually you're drunk. Uh you should go see a doctor immediately.
>> Be like that's not how this guy works.
you have basically you have no knowledge of like first grade science but no I I've genuinely I explained it to her and I was like look it just feels further away >> like it's like that that's why do you know and she was like no and then she one day she turned around and went yeah okay I do see it now but waking up with that sense of intrepidation >> did she was just because you kept on telling her isn't this how it feels like you know what I mean >> yeah maybe it was maybe we just beat her and >> but I guess it might also be something we came up with and that's not true.
>> Maybe my eyeballs are too round. That could be a That could be a No, they're not. They're perfectly round. 100%. I've got 2020 vision. I just got to check.
>> No, they're not. One of them were >> 20 is like 99.6%.
One of them is slightly, >> but I also had an oval eye. One of mine were also a bit like that.
>> We need an oval office appointment is we don't need an oval eye. We need an oval office presidential pardon or whatever to come into the country and just be let made honorary citizens. That's what we need.
>> That's what we need.
>> Shout out somebody in the White House.
Tag the White House in the comments and just say, "Hey, get these people here ASAP." But >> yeah, we've been here long enough now.
It's been a week and a half.
>> Yeah, that's been it's been a week and we need to go back already. I'm so honestly like I'm just walking around the street like dressed like this now.
People are like, "What are you have you just come from America?" And I'm like, "Yeah." And I need to go back immediately. I've got withdrawals sometimes.
>> Cosplaying.
>> Yeah, I'm cosplaying. Yeah. But I I don't actually The thing is I'm not cosplaying. I just I feel truly all the people saying, "You guys got to be here.
You're the best Americans we've ever seen."
>> But the thing is like I don't think America's not It's not how you dress.
It's just how you state.
>> Yes. And >> America has an idea. It's a feeling.
>> Yes.
>> It's a It's a place.
>> And we got that feeling. And now we can't shake it off. So >> we got the bug. We got the bug. Anyway, listen. We just wanted to get you a check in, let you know how we were settling in after a week again. And uh there's another episode coming in a few days. This is totally bonus content. Um >> next episode is going to be so >> Yeah, next episode is pretty crazy, man.
Honestly, keep your eyes peeled for that. So, this is outside of the series.
>> So, anyway, we just wanted to jump in and say hello. So, if you like the content, if you like us, you want to follow our journey to America, please hit the subscribe, hit likes, hype, all that stuff. Share it with your mates.
Tell your uncle. Uh, and also one other thing. Yeah.
>> I've been thinking about this for a while.
>> People are suggesting that we do things.
>> Mhm.
>> And obviously we're going to go back to America very soon. So, we've got a few things we need to do.
>> Then we're coming back.
>> And I'm making a list and I'm checking it twice to see who's naughty and to see who's nice. Right.
>> Like Santa Claus.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, and people are suggesting that we go to places. They're saying, "Go to this place. Go to that place. Eat this. Eat that." the way for you to help us afford all of that stuff because we're not millionaires, right? Is that you can Yeah. You know, is that you can uh there's a link under here and it's uh buy me a coffee, right?
>> But we're not going to buy coffee. We'll buy Sonic foot long chili dogs.
>> And we'll go to like >> fried pickles and fried green tomatoes.
>> Yeah. And we'll go to like Carl's Jr.
and stuff like that. So, if you want to buy us a cheeseburger or a beer or or something that we've never tried before or make a suggestion for some food when we're back in Nashville in the surrounding areas, >> that's the link. So, you can chuck in a fiverr.
>> But again, it's not limited only to Nashville because >> No, we're going to be going a bit. So, it's not just Nashville, it's, you know, in and around the area about >> uh 500 miles either way. So yeah, if you want to help us do that, then the link is there and you've got the ability now to vote with your wallet because if I was to do every suggestion there, a I would have a coronary heart disease and b we would be homeless and sleeping on the street and not be able to do any of them because there are millions.
>> So if you're really serious about wanting us to try something, then click the link and well anyway, we've got Archie here. Archie, are you there? You want to say hi to the people?
>> He's checking out birds. I was checking out. Well, I was checking out birds. I I can do this. This is what I can do. I can do this. No, I can't. I don't know how that works. I thought I could control it from my phone. Anyway, bye.
Bye.
>> Bye.
