Building a New Neighborhood - Part 2 | Hintonburg Ep. 3

[00:00:00]Hello, hello, and welcome back to the city of Hintonburg.

[00:00:06]I'm just going through and rezoning in this block here. I thought >> [music] >> the 1 by 2 Southwest homes didn't exactly fit the look. So, I'm deciding to put in the 1 by 3 Northeast. [music] We're going to see what those look like.

[00:00:23]There. Hopefully those look a little bit better. So, this is part two of building out a new neighborhood, and for today's episode, I'm going to be focusing on these empty spaces in this community.

[00:00:34]The first thing we're going to do is take a look at this section right here.

[00:00:38]I think we're going to turn this into residential. I had talked about in the previous episode potentially adding some commercial over here. I think I can use [music] two of these four blocks right here for that. So, for this section here, I'm just going to put in >> [music] >> Southwest low density.

[00:01:02]Okay, and for these four blocks [music] here, I'm going to put the commercial on this side and keep residential over here.

[00:01:18]Okay, and for these next two blocks, I want to make these commercial, and I think I want to have a grocery store right over [music] here.

[00:01:26]I'm going to place that right there.

[00:01:30]Perfect.

[00:02:01]>> [music] >> Didn't mean to go into detailing mode there, but I'm not I'm not overly upset with this. I think it's pretty cut and dry, but does the trick right now.

[00:02:23]And for our last commercial section, I think I'm going to place one of these right here.

[00:02:33]And then have a bigger asset over here as well. There we go.

[00:02:45]>> [music] >> Okay, there's the second. Nothing too complicated.

[00:03:05]Okay, and while we were working on those, these Northeast [music] row homes zoned in, and I think these fit. They they kind of blend in in my opinion. Okay, this will be the next block we're working on. I think this should be a park just considering it like it's at this end point area. Um yeah, pretty decent view in the water.

[00:03:25]This should be a park. Before I jump in and do that, I want to build an extension, and I want to make sure I have enough room to do [music] so because we are currently maxed out when it comes to high school [music] space. So, just want to make sure I have enough space to build an extension before I build a park over here.

[00:03:46]And it looks like we got the room.

[00:03:58]Those are actually sharp-looking buildings. I I like those extension wings a lot.

[00:04:02]All right, let's move on to our park.

[00:04:03][music] First things first, it's going to need a pathway.

[00:04:13]>> [music] [music] >> All right, I think that's a good start for our park. Pretty basic, but we can come back and make changes as we go.

[00:04:46]Okay, the next block we're going to work on is right here, and I think I want to place some city services. [music] First one being a post office. I think right over here might actually be a good place for it. Kind of fits right in this corner. Let's put it right there.

[00:05:01][music] And the second, I guess, depending on how much money we have, yeah, let's do another clinic. Ooh, can we get this to fit? [music] Just barely. Okay.

[00:05:15]Awesome, that's great.

[00:05:16]So, [music] I'm going to go ahead and change the color of this because the yellow is just not it.

[00:05:25]What if we just made it gray?

[00:05:28]That's not terrible.

[00:05:29]Or white. Yeah, that's fine.

[00:05:32]Good with that.

[00:05:47]>> [music] >> So, right beside the post office, we have this little shape here, and I think this would probably be a [music] good spot for some sort of small park.

[00:06:00]Basketball court? Uh that might work.

[00:06:03]Okay, let's try that.

[00:06:07]Cool. [music] >> [music] >> All right, there we go.

[00:06:17]All right, we have a good number of those irregular blocks filled in. The last one is this one right here, and I think I want to put a park here, and I kind of want to see if this one works.

[00:06:29][music] It fits the best of all of them because it's not a square.

[00:06:32]So, I'm going to try that and see what that looks like. Okay, that's interesting.

[00:06:37]I might leave that. I don't mind that right now, but someone tell me otherwise if you think I'm crazy. [music] I'll try to blend in some landscaping.

[00:06:55]Am I just subconsciously copying the Game of Thrones White Walker sign?

[00:07:05]All right, we're rolling with it. I don't think it looks completely terrible. Maybe that floating tree in the middle does, but we can fix that, [music] I think.

[00:07:16]Bring it back down to earth.

[00:07:19]Perfect.

[00:07:20]All right, that's kind of it for those those blocks. I'm pretty sure I have the majority of them filled in. The only one that you could argue is remaining is this one here, which maybe I come back to that at some point, or maybe this has a road. Ooh, that might be a good idea, actually.

[00:07:36]Let's try that out real quick.

[00:07:40]All right.

[00:07:41]>> [music] >> That's what we're going to roll with for now.

[00:07:43]Okay, we're going to shift gears for a second and create a pathway between these two neighborhoods because there seems to be a lot of people using this sidewalk, [music] which you know, they're using this roundabout, which has no crosswalks.

[00:07:59]Uh I'm wondering if I can [music] make dedicated pedestrian paths and solve that problem. So, the first one is going to be between [music] these two areas right here, and I'm going to make it right off of this corner of Briar Rose.

[00:08:15]>> [music] [music] [music] >> Awesome, that seemed to have worked.

[00:08:34]So, [music] hoping that will cut down on some pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks here. So, just going to quickly clean [music] this up a touch.

[00:08:51]Okay, that first connection's done.

[00:08:53]Let's move on to the next one.

[00:09:13]Just quickly [music] smooth this out.

[00:09:25]>> [music] >> Okay, there we go. Second connection done.

[00:09:28]So, by the looks of it, people are using this path. Hopefully we see a reduction in the amount of people walking here. I think those crosswalks were reestablished when I created that new road. There we go.

[00:09:42]And I probably should double-check.

[00:09:45]Remove unsafe U-turns.

[00:09:49]Perfect.

[00:09:50]All righty, we got those [music] two connections built. People seem to be using those pathways, which is good. So, hopefully we see a reduction in some of the traffic and some of the congestion caused by people just jaywalking across the highway there. So, I'm going to transition and start [music] landscaping our new neighborhood. So, I think you may remember from the last episode I was talking about setbacks and having room for planting trees in front yards. So, I have to go through a lot of these lots and start planting trees, bushes, etc. So, I will see you on the other side.

[00:10:28]And this time I'm not going to run out of money.

[00:10:34]>> [music] [music] >> I'm probably sneaking [music] some more houses here. Looks like I kind of need to anyways. Okay, I'm just going to sneak in [music] some more houses right here.

[00:12:03]>> [music] [music] [music] >> Okay, and that looks a lot better with trees. That took forever. Kind of a weird thing. I'm not sure if this is new, but you can almost plant trees on top of each other now, I guess.

[00:13:27]So, >> [music] >> yeah, that's a thing. Not sure if that's because the cliff distance [music] is so much shorter now with landscaping. Not sure if this is just something recent an update.

[00:13:40]Maybe this is something new that's that's happened with the last update. I record these quite early in advance, so I'm fairly certain [music] as of recording this video an update just came out kind of. So, [music] maybe that's something that just happened and a week from now when this uploads, people find out what it is. But, uh yeah, I thought that was pretty funny. I just [music] noticed. I was like, "Man, what are these super tall trees that I have?" And it was actually just >> [music] >> trees planted on top of each other. So, that was neat.

[00:14:11]The last thing I want to tackle [music] in this part two is the waterfront right here. And I want to make some sort of mixed-use [music] path that runs along the water. Might need to do some train work, we'll see. But, yeah, [music] that's the idea.

[00:14:37]>> [music] [music] [music] >> All right, cool. There's the start of our bike path. So, I did just say that was going to be the last thing we were doing. I think I want to do one more thing. And it's [music] detailing our main street just a little bit further than we did last episode. I think we can elevate the uh the front sidewalk there and make it look a little bit better than it does right now.

[00:15:35]>> [music] [music] [music] >> There, nothing too crazy. Just added some flower beds along the sidewalks with some trees. Might be a touch repetitive in spots. I'm going to see if I if I can change this up >> [music] >> just a little bit with trees.

[00:16:16]So, we could put oak trees there.

[00:16:19]Birch, oak, birch, oak. That's fine. My best bet is probably to just use anarchy and draw them in with a the freaking duck scored. Geez. Uh to draw them in with the advanced line tool and get some variation. But, uh I don't really feel like doing that right now.

[00:16:39]You know what? I do feel like doing it now. I'm getting rid of those trees and I'm going to use anarchy and the line tool to figure this out. Cuz it's driving me crazy.

[00:17:08]Yeah, just sometimes I get my own way with not wanting to do something right away, but then I change my mind eventually, end up doing it, and I think this looks a lot better.
